Welcome to this meditation designed to help you rewrite your rules for life.

If you find yourself stuck in repetitive painful patterns,

This meditation will help you understand what's driving those patterns,

And invite you to release them,

Find a comfortable position,

Seated or lying.

Close your eyes and take a deep breath in through your nose and a long slow exhalation.

Turn your inner eye to your own internal world.

Notice if there's any sensation in your chest or in your belly or your throat.

Gently roll your shoulders and release any tension.

Let your jaw hang slightly open and relax the small muscles around your eyes.

And now invite a thought into your mind.

My mother says I must.

My father says I must.

My family say I should.

My children say I should.

My boss says I should.

My culture says I should.

My religion says I should.

As you allow yourself to bring up those feelings and thoughts,

Notice again any sensation in your chest,

Any sensation in your belly,

Any sensation in your throat,

Any sensation in your shoulders.

Take a deep deep breath in and a slow sighing breath out and release any tension from your body.

And now I want you to introduce the idea.

My mother says I should not.

My father says I should not.

My family says I should not.

My culture says I should not.

My religion says I should not.

And notice the sensation in your chest,

Belly,

Throat,

Shoulders.

Take a deep breath in and sigh it back out.

Just release any negativity.

And now you have some awareness of the rules that are governing your behaviour.

I'd like to invite you to imagine some new rules.

I choose to live.

I choose to create.

I choose to bring myself.

I choose to be.

I choose to do.

I choose life on my terms.

Take a deep breath in and a sighing breath out.

Notice again any sensation in your chest,

Belly,

Throat,

Shoulders.

And we'll close with a few affirmations.

I live life on my terms.

I am enough.

I am perfect exactly as I am.

I am creative and powerful.

I choose to be kind to myself.

I choose to release myself.

Take a deep breath in and a sighing breath out.

Bring some movement back into your body,

Moving your hands and fingers,

Wrists and ankles.

Gently open your eyes.
