We spend so much time in our heads thinking and planning.
This practice is a gentle invitation to drop into the present moment and notice what's already here,
The colors,
The sounds,
The textures,
The scents,
And the tastes that make up our world.
There's no right or wrong way to experience this.
Just bring your curiosity,
Your presence,
And sink into this space of being.
Take a moment to get comfortable,
Whether you're seated or lying down or just resting in a cozy chair.
Gently close your eyes or soften your gaze and settle in with me for a few minutes to pause,
To breathe,
And to reconnect with the simple beauty of your senses.
Take a long,
Steady breath in and sigh it out.
Let's begin with sight.
Even with your eyes closed,
You can imagine or recall.
Gently bring to mind five colors you've seen recently or that naturally come to you now.
Allow each color to appear in your mind's eye.
No need to force,
Just notice.
Take a moment for each color.
What qualities do these colors carry?
Are they bold or muted,
Light or dark?
How do they make you feel?
If your mind wanders,
Gently come back to the next color.
Now shift your focus to the sense of sound.
Bring to mind four sounds around you or from memory,
Perhaps the hum of distant traffic,
The whistle of a teapot,
The chirp of birds,
The gentle rhythm of your own breath.
Allow each sound to arise and fade naturally.
Notice if the sound feels near or far,
Steady or fleeting.
Simply listen without labeling,
Without judging.
Now bring your attention to the sense of touch.
Gently invite three sensations of touch or feel into your awareness.
Perhaps it's the weight of your body on the ground,
The softness of fabric against your skin,
The temperature of the air on your face.
Notice texture,
Pressure,
Temperature,
Or movement.
Let yourself fully feel each sensation for a moment before moving on.
Now bring awareness to scent.
Notice,
Recall,
Or imagine two smells.
They can be from your surroundings or from memory,
Perhaps the freshness of morning air,
The comforting aroma of warm tea or coffee,
Flowers,
Herbs,
Rain-soaked earth.
Notice what feelings arise with each scent.
Let yourself linger in each of those sensory memories.
Finally,
Shift your attention to taste.
Gently bring to mind one taste.
It could be the lingering flavor in your mouth or the memory of a favorite food.
Savor the thought of it.
Notice how your body responds.
Let that sensation sit with you for a few breaths.
Now bring your attention back to your breath.
Take a deep breath in and a long,
Steady breath out.
Before you open your eyes,
Take a moment to notice how you feel.
Perhaps a little softer,
A little more grounded.
Maybe there's a sense of calm or focus.
The magic of this practice is in that it doesn't end here.
It lives in every moment you choose to notice.
The color of the sky,
The sound of leaves dancing in the wind,
The softness of your favorite sweater,
The scent of morning coffee or fresh rain,
The simple sweetness of a bite of food savored slowly.
Every day holds tiny moments of magic waiting for you to notice.
All it takes is a pause and a breath.
As you feel ready,
Gently float your eyes open.
Maybe stretch a little.
Maybe turn the corners of your mouth up into a smile.
Carry the sense of wonder with you today and beyond.
And thank you so much for being here with me today.
