The EMDR Spiral Technique is a potent tool that can reduce distress, overwhelm, anxiety, and stress caused by difficult thoughts, feelings, and images. Welcome to the EMDR spiral technique This tool can be used when dealing with upsetting emotions such as fear,

Anxiety or anger I invite you to close your eyes and settle into your body Pick something that is bothering you at about a 3 from 0 to 10 where 10 is the most severe and invite an image of whatever it is that's bothering you As you think of an image that represents this problem notice where you feel the disturbance in your body Next,

I invite you to pretend that this feeling is energy If it was a spiral of energy,

Which direction would it be moving?

Clockwise or counterclockwise?

Now,

With your mind,

Gently change the direction of the spiral in your body For example,

If it was originally moving clockwise,

Gently change it to counterclockwise Notice what happens to the feelings in your body Some people might notice a shift or reduction of these distressing feelings as you change the direction of the energy or the spiral If the feelings begin to disappear,

Then continue until you feel comfortable If one direction didn't work,

Try the other direction and see if it lessens the disturbance If the spiral technique had an effect,

Practice on other situations in the comfort of your home until you have the steps memorized This can be a useful technique to keep in your back pocket or whenever you become distressed And if this technique didn't work for you today,

That's no problem It might mean that you can try it with a different issue or at a different time And just like for all of us,

Some techniques will resonate better than others Thank you for your time today and your willingness to try something new

Great tool! Worked immediately. I would love a second version of this with “that much more time” to identify an issue, identify which direction my spiral is swirling, and more time reversing and allowing the issue/feeling to clear. Also, in the follow-up version, there would be the assumption that your listener has listened to this particular share of yours and so needs only the opening and transitional instructions. I would love the ending to be a simple bowl sound. Whole thing to be in the 5-8 minute range. Just realized, I should have looked to see if you’ve done something like this already 😄 I really loved the way your music facilitated my attunement to a spiral and your guidance was spot on. Hope you don’t mind my request. If I don’t put it out there, how will I ever hope to receive it? Best and thanks!! Colette

Very helpful! I’m Im a hospital in Mexico with a blown cervical disc, while on vacation and having to advocate for myself in extreme pain with unused Spanish skills = exhausting and stressful. This meditation just put me to sleep for 1st time all night and it’s 6:45. Thank you!!!!
