Settling the nervous system.
This meditation helps calm an activated nervous system.
Is in physical tension.
And mental overwhelm.
Through gentle grounding techniques.
Find somewhere you can be undisturbed for a few minutes.
Sit or lie down.
Whatever lets your body feel most supported right now.
Start by placing one hand on your chest.
And one on your belly.
Feel the warmth of your own hands.
This simple touch is a signal to your body that you're safe.
And that you're here to take care of things.
Your nervous system right now.
May be running pretty hot.
Maybe your thoughts are racing,
Or there's a buzz of energy that won't settle.
Or everything feels a bit too much.
It's okay,
You're not broken.
Your body is just doing what it thinks it needs to do.
Take a breath through your nose.
Let it out through your mouth with a gentle sigh.
Let that sigh be audible.
Do that twice more.
These size aren't just for show.
They actually tell your body.
And downshift.
Now let your breathing return to normal.
Notice your feet on the ground or the surface beneath you.
Press down slightly.
Feeling the solid contact.
Your body registered this.
Support.
Stability.
Scan through your body without trying to change anything.
Where are you holding tension?
Your jaw.
Your shoulders.
Your hand.
Just notice.
Sometimes awareness alone is enough.
Things to soften.
If your mind is spinning,
That's fine.
You don't need to stop your thoughts.
Instead,
See if you can let them be background noise while you focus on something physical.
The weight of your body.
The temperature of the air.
The sounds in the room.
Try this.
Tense your shoulders upwards towards your ears.
Hold for a moment.
Then let them drop completely.
Feel that release.
Sometimes we need to create tension before we can let it go.
Now picture your nervous system like a pot of water that's been boiling.
You're not trying to freeze it instantly,
You're just turning down the heat.
Letting it gradually come down to a simmer.
If feelings come up,
Frustration,
Sadness,
Anxiety,
Let them be there.
Fighting them only adds more fuel.
You can acknowledge them without getting swept away.
There's anxiety,
There's tightness,
There's worry.
Just naming them.
And create a little space.
Stay here as long as you need.
There's no rush.
Your nervous system will settle in its own time.
You're just creating the conditions for it to happen.
When you're ready.
Take one more full breath in and out.
Wiggle your fingers and toes.
Maybe roll your shoulders or stretch your neck.
And remember.
Settling isn't the same as fixing.
You're simply giving your system.
Permission to rest.
Namaste.
