In the Texas hill country,
The peach trees are always the first to blossom in spring.
Orchard rose burst forth into heavenly displays of delicate pink.
For a few weeks,
It's like walking in a fairy tale.
Of course,
It never lasts.
Soon the blooms are pollinated and they begin their transition,
Slowly shifting into luscious peaches.
Which is better,
The blossom or the peach?
One is lovely,
One is nourishing.
Both are good,
Yet cannot coexist.
For the new life always comes at the expense of the old.
And between the two lies this stage of becoming no longer a flower,
Not yet a peach.
If you are in a transition right now,
Maybe you feel awkward,
Unsure,
Missing your former splendor with no way of knowing what is next.
But there's a truth you should hear.
In this moment,
Your very cells are expanding,
Maturing,
Ripening.
The magic is happening,
And the new life will be revealed soon.
In order to find peace in this transition,
You'll have to tune into a few parts of yourself.
Grief and sadness over losing what was.
Rest and trust in the midst of the unknown,
And hope for the life yet to be.
Would you like to try?
Join me now by settling into a comfortable position,
You may gently close your eyes or soften your gaze.
Just begin to notice your breath.
Become fully attuned to each inhale and exhale.
Now,
Let yourself remember what was.
Tune into the feeling of what you were.
Allow your body to re-experience the glory of the past.
If tears come,
Let them.
Just breathe and sigh your way through the beauty of what was.
As you're ready,
Return your attention to your breath.
Let it be an anchor to now.
How does it feel to be you in this body,
In this space?
Just let yourself experience this.
And now,
If you'd like,
You may raise your arms and surrender,
Dear one.
All that is asked of you is to be.
There's nothing to cling to,
Nothing to strive for.
If you can trust that,
You'll find there's rest.
What does it feel like to rest and surrender as you are no longer the blossom and not yet the fruit?
In this state of surrendered rest,
Allow hope to enter.
With each inhale,
Draw in more hope.
You don't have to know what you are hoping for,
But you have the power to rest and trust that it will be just as good as what was.
Maybe even better.
