So what is yoga nidra?
Yoga nidra is this beautiful practice.
I have been lucky enough to be able to teach it for the last 10 years.
And it's something that I think is really truly magical because it's unlike any other practice or style of yoga that we have.
Yoga nidra translates to yogic sleep.
And the idea behind it is that we are doing this practice to put our body to sleep while keeping our mind or our consciousness awake.
And the way that yoga nidra works is that you actually work through,
Step-by-step,
All the different layers of our being,
Or the koshas.
So we have the physical body,
We have the energetic body,
The mental body,
The wisdom body,
The bliss body.
And as you go,
Step-by-step,
What you're trying to do is eventually come face-to-face with the true self.
So I think about the koshas as kind of being maybe like an onion,
But also like those Russian nesting dolls.
Do you know which ones I'm talking about?
They have like,
The big one and then you open it up and there's like.
Duplicate but it's smaller and then you open it up another one another one and then eventually you open up all of those dolls and there's one in the center that doesn't open up and that's like the true original one that's the true self in us and so yoga nidra is working with one of the limbs of yoga called pratyahara or withdrawal of the senses it's one of the purest forms of pratyahara that we have so we're trying to put the physical body to sleep we're trying to withdraw our senses giving them all a break so we can take this conscious journey inwards towards the true self and we're also getting so many benefits for our body.
It's going to help improve our sleep.
It's really great for supporting your hormones,
Your cortisol.
It helps to reduce anxiety.
Um,
There's also really interesting research being done around yoga nidra and how it can support anxiety,
PTSD,
Um,
And other things like that.
And what I really love about yoga nidra is not only is it a deeply restful practice,
Which is so important because we are chronically rest deprived just as a society,
And so it can help people get the rest that they need.
It also gives them permission to slow down and be restful,
Which I think is so important.
And it actually has been shown to And so when you practice yoga nidra,
You're going to most likely lay down,
But you could also sit in a chair or any other position that feels really,
Really comfortable to you.
A practice is going to be anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes.
It's a longer practice and you're just going to listen to the sound of the teacher's voice.
They have done all the heavy lifting for you.
They put together a practice that will have certain techniques and each technique will talk to one of those koshas,
Hopefully opening it up layer by layer to bring you face to face with the true self.
Where you will plant a positive seed of intention or sankalpa into the true self.
So it's also a powerful tool for manifestation while having really great benefits for your body and your mind and your heart and being a pure form of pratyahara.
So I highly recommend that you try yoga nidra.
It's one of my favorite practices and I bet there are so many wonderful practices that you can try on this app.
