So what is a walking meditation?
This might not be the best place for lighting or anything for a video,
But I wanted to take you outside to really walk you through a walking meditation.
Because when you do a walking meditation outside,
It is so great for your nervous system.
It is so good for your mind,
For your body.
I mean,
Nature really is the great reset,
If you will.
But something that people often get wrong about a walking meditation is the purpose of it and the pace in which you're supposed to do it.
So the purpose of a walking meditation is to experience slow intentional walking,
Moving through space and time very slowly with intention,
Through your senses.
It's an opportunity and an invitation to slow down,
To turn inward and to experience what is happening all around you.
So I don't know if you can hear it.
I'm standing out in British Columbia in the forest.
I'm filming this.
There is like a little river over there.
Maybe you can hear the water.
There's these beautiful big ferns.
There's so much that's happening here.
I can hear the birds and when you go outside and you walk incredibly incredibly slowly.
You can see,
Especially if you're outside,
You can see like everything that's happening around you.
So I wanted to demonstrate a little bit of a walking meditation so you can see how slow it is.
And I'm going to take you with me.
So when doing a walking meditation,
You're going to walk incredibly slow.
And you're focusing.
Just on one.
Step at a time.
Very slowly.
As you're doing this,
You can sort of cycle through your senses.
You can notice what you see.
I'm looking around,
I'm seeing so many different shades of green and brown.
The rocks underneath my feet are gray.
You can pay attention to what you hear.
I hear birds.
I hear the water.
I hear a little bit of a breeze coming through the leaves.
I can think about what you smell.
You can probably imagine.
What it smells like here.
When you're walking,
If you want,
You can take moments just to pause.
You could close your eyes even and just tune into what you're hearing.
And taking your time.
Very slow,
Very intentional with each and every step.
That.
Is the pace of a walking meditation.
It's not about getting from point A to point B.
It's slow,
It's intentional.
And it is an invitation to enjoy the miracles.
And the life and everything that's happening around you that we would never witness.
Or be a part of unless we slow down to experience it.
So to practice a walking meditation,
You can absolutely still do it inside if you want to do it inside.
If you can get out in nature,
That always feels really good.
But going outside,
Even if you want to do 10 minutes,
15 minutes,
20 minutes,
You can do as much time as you want,
But very slow,
Intentional steps,
Tuning into all of the senses and just allowing yourself just have the sensory experience of going on a slow intentional walk.
And that is a walking meditation.
