So what is yin yoga?
Yin yoga is a particular style of yoga that you practice,
Usually on cold muscles.
The reason being is because the yin yoga is designed to get into the fascia,
The connective tissue,
And the joints.
And we want to make sure that we don't heat up the internal body to a certain temperature,
Because when you do that,
The work starts to kick out of the joints and the fascia and into the muscles.
So yin yoga is a phenomenal complement to any other style of yoga that you're already practicing.
It's great for detoxification.
And it's also amazing for your overall joint mobility and your flexibility as a whole.
The way that it works is that your fascia-connected tissue is almost like this little case that goes around your muscle.
And your muscle has to kind of.
.
.
Slide and glide in a way within that connective tissue.
And so we want to make sure that we're also keeping the connective tissue soft and supple and mobile.
Otherwise,
If it kind of gets locked up,
It gets stiff,
You will start to feel more locked up and stiff.
So where many styles of yoga,
Like restorative,
Hatha,
Power yoga,
Even restorative yoga works more with the muscles.
Yin yoga is all about the joints and the connective tissue.
It's great to do first thing in the morning you're feeling kind of stiff and you're going to hold your positions or shapes as they're called in yin yoga anywhere from three up to eight minutes i would say usually three to five minutes is pretty standard and you might hold that position for example like a low lunge You might hold a position like this for three minutes.
Now you can utilize props to make this more comfortable,
Like putting a blanket underneath the back knee or potentially blocks underneath the hands,
But you will stay here and you will breathe.
The challenging part of yin yoga is,
Yes,
The physical,
Because it can feel a little bit stiff.
It can feel a little bit uncomfortable.
It should never be painful.
But when you're in this position,
You also have to work on keeping your mind still.
Your mind will want to wander.
Million different places because you're just in that position,
But it's a great opportunity to focus on staying with your body and staying in that posture.
