Welcome,
Comedian,
To this meditation I've created just for you.
This is a space for you to pause,
A moment to breathe,
To feel,
And to remember that your worth is not dependent on your performance.
You don't have to hold it all together right now.
You don't have to make anyone laugh to cut the tension.
This time is just for you.
Begin by finding a comfortable seat or lying down.
Gently close your eyes and let your shoulders relax and soften.
Let your jaw unclench and allow your breath to become slow.
With each exhale feel yourself arriving more fully into your body,
Into your home.
You are safe.
You,
Dear comedian,
Have a gift.
You bring levity to heavy rooms.
You create joy out of discomfort.
You sense what others need and you know just how to shift the mood.
You are quick,
Intuitive,
And bright.
You've learned to read the room before you've even read yourself.
But behind the smile there may be a weariness,
A quiet ache from the pain and tension you feel around you,
A longing to be known beyond your laughter,
To be held even when you're not holding it all together.
So let yourself feel what you need to feel in this moment.
Let the mask soften.
Let the pressure dissolve.
Let the parts of you that performs rest.
Let the part of you that performs rest.
Place one hand over your heart and one on your belly.
Feel your breath underneath your palms.
The expansion on the inhale and the softening on the exhale.
You are allowed to take up space even when you are quiet,
Even when you are tender.
You do not have to entertain to take care of everyone else in the room.
You do not have to deflect to be safe.
You can hold silence for everyone and everything else around you,
Even in its mess,
Because this burden is not yours to carry.
I want you to connect deeper with this part of you that feels the need to always take care of the tension around you.
Is there a memory that comes to mind or just a deep feeling that lives in your body?
As you let your breath deepen,
Allow your nervous system to unwind this memory,
This feeling.
You are not alone in your sensitivity.
You are not alone in your brilliance.
You are not alone in your grief.
As you witness this memory or feeling of having to take care of the tension around you,
Notice if you can shift into love,
Into compassion for you,
Into understanding.
This intelligent part of you came online to help you survive.
If only we can lighten the mood,
Maybe everything will be okay again.
There is so much depth in that statement.
Can you feel it?
Let's take three cleansing breaths together as we ground into this new intention,
This new way of seeing ourselves.
Your gift is the way you bring a smile to other people's lives,
And yet your power is knowing when and how to use it in humor and in silence.
Your performance does not equate love,
And the burden of having to cut the tension around you was never yours to hold alone.
Sometimes we can let it be messy and trust that that is a part of someone else's journey.
As we begin to close,
Imagine the younger version of you who first learned to use humor as a shield.
Can you thank them for helping you survive?
Can you let them know they don't have to protect you in the same way anymore?
Feel the strength of your heart that cares so much,
The clarity of that truth,
And the beauty of your full self,
Not just the highlight reel.
When you're ready,
Begin to bring some movement back into your fingers and toes.
Gently roll your shoulders and stretch,
And when it feels right,
Softly open your eyes.
Welcome home,
Comedian.
