Welcome to this guided meditation to look into the deeper meanings of the symptoms your body is expressing.

It's always a good idea to talk to your doctor or your health practitioner to see if you need medication or any other external interventions.

But in addition to caring for ourselves in the material realm,

We can also get curious about what these symptoms might be trying to tell us spiritually,

Energetically or emotionally.

So what's the spiritual meaning of lower back pain for you?

Take a moment to settle for this meditation.

Take any shape that works for you,

Especially if sitting causes discomfort.

Take a moment to honour and acknowledge the land that you are on wherever you are in the world.

Now,

Begin to attend to the pain in your lower back.

Take a breath and get curious about the sensation there.

What exactly does the sensation feel like?

Is it big,

Small,

Tight,

Vibrating,

Pulsing,

More on one side?

Does it have a colour or a shape?

You don't need to do anything with this information,

Just notice.

Now we're going to ask some deeper questions.

And I invite you to simply get curious about what happens for you as you hear these questions.

You may or may not get an answer and that's fine.

We're simply exploring and encouraging the body to communicate with us.

If the answers aren't super clear,

That's okay.

The point is the practice,

The listening in.

Now if the sensation in your lower back could speak,

What would it say?

What does the sensation want?

Is there something the sensation wants from you?

What does the sensation think would happen if it were to leave you alone,

Stop causing you pain?

The lower back is a sensitive area that is physically down and behind.

It can represent emotions that you have put behind you.

It can represent old traumas and past experiences,

Could relate to an old injury that has long since healed.

So let's consider when the back pain first started.

Was there an injury or an event that happened right before the pain began?

What was happening in your life around that time?

And what emotions do you notice when you start to think about that time in your life?

It's normal for pain to increase when we focus in on it,

Especially when we call up the emotions it's related to.

So just notice that if your pain is increasing,

You're probably getting somewhere.

So stay safe,

Don't hurt yourself,

Adjust if you need to,

But see if you can keep breathing and stay present with these sensations,

Reminding yourself that you are safe.

It is safe to explore these questions.

And if it really doesn't feel safe,

You can stop this meditation anytime.

Now the lower back is usually associated with the sacral chakra,

Especially if the pain runs along the back of the pelvis,

Close to the sacral bone,

And even more so if you notice there's a relationship with tight hips in your case.

The sacral chakra is an energy center that is related to sensuality,

Sexuality,

Pleasure,

Joy,

And the freedom of movement.

It's very common for traumas to get stored here,

Partly because it's further down in the body pushed away from what's front and center.

So again,

Notice what comes up for you as I ask the following questions.

How are you relating to pleasure in your life right now?

Do you feel connected to your body?

Are you doing anything in your life right now that helps you to numb away from your feelings?

What is your relationship with physical intimacy in your life right now?

Do you feel safe and comfortable with that area of your life?

The lower back does a lot of the work of carrying the weight and posture of your body.

This can be literal and figurative.

So notice your posture right now.

Are you a bit collapsed?

Are you holding your head high?

Is there tightness in your chest or shoulders or jaw?

What do you notice about how this posture relates to how you feel emotionally right now?

Are you carrying weight for someone else?

Is there a responsibility on your back that's sometimes hard to bear?

Are you bending over backwards for someone?

So remember that the practice here is noticing.

It's okay if you didn't get any clear answers to these questions.

There might have been more a moment of resonance,

Something to think a little bit more about maybe journal about if you want to.

So I'm going to invite you to take a little bit more time here to simply sit with the sensations in your lower back.

Any thoughts,

Images,

Memories or emotions that have come up throughout this meditation.

And just continue to practice listening deeply and compassionately to your body.

Don't have to change anything right now.

Don't have to fix anything.

Just being here with your body.

And whenever this feels complete for you,

Thank your body for trying to talk to you.

If you'd like,

Put your hands together and bow gently in thanks and gratitude.

And I thank you for being here with me today and being willing to check in with some possibly vulnerable questions.

Your meditation is complete.
