This practice is for the kind of tiredness that does not fully go away with one good night of sleep.
Kind where your body feels worn down on a deeper level.
Maybe you keep thinking,
Why am I still this tired?
Why do I feel drained even when I try to rest?
Why does my body still feel tense all the time?
And often this happens when the nervous system has spent too long staying in survival mode.
Too long pushing through.
Too long staying emotionally alert.
Too long,
Carrying stress without enough true recovery in between.
Take a slow breath in.
And exhale gently.
Again,
Inhale.
And exhale.
Sometimes people think rest is simply about sleeping more or having fewer responsibilities.
But nervous system exhaustion often goes deeper than that.
Because your body may have spent months or even years adapting to pressure.
Holding tension.
Monitoring everything around you.
Trying to stay functional no matter how overwhelmed,
Worried or depleted you actually felt.
And over time the body can forget what real recovery feels like.
Take another slow breath in.
When you exhale,
Allow your body to settle a little more into the surface underneath you.
You don't need to force yourself to relax perfectly right now.
Many exhausted nervous systems struggle with that.
Sometimes the body becomes so used to stress,
Stimulation,
Rushing and constant mental activity.
That slowing down initially feels unfamiliar.
That does not mean you're failing at rest.
It means your system has been on the strain for a long time.
And healing usually happens gradually.
Not through one perfect routine.
Not through pressuring yourself to suddenly become calm.
But through small repeated moments where the body starts receiving a different message.
A slower breath.
A quieter evening.
A moment without constant demands.
Take another breath in.
And exhale slowly.
Now notice the places in your body still working hard.
Your jaw.
Shoulders.
Stomach.
Your chest.
Notice whether there is tightness,
Gripping or effort there.
And instead of immediately trying to change it.
Simply acknowledge it.
Your body has been trying to protect you.
Trying to help you cope.
Trying to keep you functioning through stress,
Pressure,
Uncertainty,
Emotional overload,
Responsibilities.
Of course it feels tired.
Take another slow breath in.
And imagine offering your nervous system something different tonight.
Not pressure.
Not urgency.
Not another thing to achieve.
Just a few moments where your body no longer feels pushed forward.
A few moments where nothing is being asked from you.
Just breathing.
Just resting.
Just existing here for a little while.
Take one more slow breath in.
And let it go gently.
Your exhaustion is not weakness.
Your need for recovery is not laziness.
It is a human response to carrying too much for too long without enough restoration.
And perhaps tonight,
Instead of criticizing your tiredness,
You allow yourself to meet it with a little more understanding.
Little by little the nervous system learns through repetition.
Through pause.
Through recovery.
Through moments where the body realizes it no longer has to stay on high alert all the time.
Take one final slow breath in.
And exhale slowly.
That your body feels supported.
Let the night hold you for a little while.
And let this moment remind your nervous system that rest is not something you have to earn.
If you'd like more support,
You can continue with another practice from my Nervous System First Aid series.
For now,
Just let yourself rest here.
