Feather breath utilizes our imagination to learn more about how we breathe and how we can change our breath to make us feel more relaxed. The goal of feather breathing is to help teach your child how to slow down his or her breathing in order to self soothe and self regulate emotions.

For today's breathing exercise,

We're going to imagine we're holding a soft feather in our hand.

One hand will be placed on your feather,

Holding it in front of your mouth,

And the other hand let's place on our belly.

So you're going to be doing a long inhalation and then your exhalation when you blow your air out is going to be nice and slow.

So you'll breathe in a big breath and then when you breathe out,

I want you to imagine you're blowing all the soft feathers up one side of your feather to the top and then pause for a moment and then you're going to continue breathing out all your air down the other side of the feather.

So your inhalation might be around six seconds and then your exhalation will be around six seconds too.

So you can kind of divide it by going up for three seconds and then continue breathing all that air out for another three seconds down the other side of the feather.

So let's try this.

So breathe in and then out,

Blowing all the little hairs on your feather.

Excellent work.

I hope this helps you to have a great day and relax if you're feeling stressed or overwhelmed.

Thanks so much.
