If your child is having a hard time settling down, missing someone, or feeling upset and needs to self-soothe, the big bear hug is a perfect solution.

Hello and welcome.

For today's breathing exercise we're actually going to be using our bodies as well as our breath.

This exercise will take around two to three minutes and I like to call this exercise bear hug.

This is a great exercise to use if you're missing someone and needing to give yourself some extra love in a moment's notice.

The way this exercise works is to think about the person you're missing and visualize them in your mind.

While you're doing this you take a deep breath in and you open your arms wide as if you're about to give them a big hug.

Then you gently wrap your arms around yourself and tap your hands alternating between your right and your left hand back and forth while you continue to breathe in and out.

Let's do this one more time together.

So you first open your arms wide in front of you,

Take a deep breath in and relax your body.

Slowly let the breath back out and then cross your arms over your body and give yourself a squeeze.

While you're squeezing I'd like you to gently tap back and forth thinking of this person that you're missing and feeling love and safety.

Hold yourself in the big bear hug for a few moments more and let your body and mind feel calm and relaxed.

Remember relaxation takes practice.

It's also about having fun and feeling good.
