Hello,

This is Joanne.

Today we're going to be dancing the vowels.

We're going to do a sound and body movement exercise and you will tone a vowel and combine these toning sounds with movement in order so that you can connect to the realm of spirit.

We will do this exercise with just one vowel with the purpose of expanding your heart but once you get the hang of the technique you can modify it and try it with all of the other vowel sounds and with different movements.

So let's start.

You start by standing and bending your knees slightly.

Now gently pulse and vibrate your body by bending and contracting your knees slightly as if you are cold and trying to stay warm,

Jiggling or bouncing the body gently.

And let this vibration be very gentle as if you are softly shaking or vibrating your whole body.

And we will continue this movement of vibration for about three minutes.

So let your arms join in the dance as well in a way that feels natural and good.

Feel every cell being vibrated.

Now put your palms in prayer pose in front of your heart space with your elbows on each side.

The palms should be pressed together and the prayer pose with your hands should be directly over your heart.

And on the exhale we're going to make the sound ah.

When you have fully released the sound and all your breath you'll take a deep breath in fill your lungs from the bottom upward.

And as you begin to exhale tone the sound while moving your palms outward and spread your arms to either side as if you were a cross.

Inhale and exhale ah and again with the arms spread to the sides.

Now inhale again and let the exhale tone the ah again and when you're halfway through it raise the arms upwards until the palms meet together as you raise them up above your head.

And then let the ah sound finish and complete the exhale.

During the time you move your arms outward as if an across feel the energy of ah resounding out from you to expand to all beings in the cosmos.

Creating energy that embraces all creatures in a powerful healing vibration.

The ah moves out from your heart through your extended arms through your hands and encircles the entire planet.

Try to visualize this.

So inhale again with the arms still raised and then on the exhale let the palms descend down to heart level and finish the sound with the palms still pressing in prayer pose.

So let's repeat this entire movement 12 times with these simple movements and if you want or need to modify them in any way let your intuition guide you to do so.

So hands at prayer pose and exhale ah.

Now take a deep breath in fill your lungs from the bottom upward and then as you begin to exhale tone the sound while moving your palms outward and spread your arms to either side as if you're an across.

Inhale and exhale ah again with the arms spread out to the sides then inhale again and let the exhale tone the ah again and when you're halfway through it raise the arms upwards until the palms meet together as you raise them above your head.

Let the ah sound finish and complete the exhale.

During the time you move your arms outward as if on the cross feel the energy of ah resounding and then move from your heart through your extended hands through your hands and circling the planet.

Inhale again with the arms still raised then on the exhale let the palms descend down to heart level and finish the sound.

And again breathe in hands in prayer pose ah breathe out the ah and then breathe in and extend your hands out to the cross and exhale the ah hands up breathe in hands up to over your head exhale the ah hands down to the prayer pose breathe in exhale to the cross breathe in raise your palms upwards above your head and exhale the ah breathe in and lower your hands to prayer pose and exhale the ah so breathe in and exhale ah out to the cross breathe in exhale to above your head breathe in exhale to your heart space breathe in exhale to the cross breathe in hands above the head exhale to prayer pose breathe in exhale to cross breathe in exhale to hands over the head exhale to heart space breathe in exhale to cross breathe in exhale to palms overhead exhale to heart space breathe in exhale to heart space exhale to the cross breathe in exhale to prayer pose breathe in exhale to cross breathe in exhale to above your head exhale to above your head breathe in exhale to prayer pose breathe in exhale to cross breathe in exhale to above your head breathe in exhale to prayer pose breathe in exhale to cross breathe in exhale to prayer um over the head breathe in exhale to prayer pose breathe in exhale to cross breathe in exhale to above the head breathe in exhale to prayer pose breathe in exhale to cross breathe in exhale to above your head breathe in exhale to prayer pose now we've done the 12 rounds just allow your body to begin to move in a gentle way dance fire or vibration whichever you feel while toning the ah sound doesn't matter how you move your body just let it move and simply let the ah sound conduct the movement any movement will do don't allow your mind to dictate what your body is doing instead allow the music of the ah dictate your movement of your body it can be slow fast whole body movements or just parts allow your body to move in the way it wants as you tone ah you can try this with all of the vowel sounds if you want just make up your movements ones that feel good in your body as you're doing the toning of the vowels it's not necessary to perform perform specific movements with your body that correspond with the vowel sound rather let your intuition take over so when you inhale you should imagine the sound current of spirit entering you and then directing your body to move let this sound be the conductor and let the body be the dancer this is not dancing in the traditional sense it's just movement of your body that feels good to you and it does not have to look like what you think traditional dance looks like you can think of as vibration that is tuning to the ah with your body and if you'd like to try all the vowels you can connect your movements to the direction and essence of the vowels so a is an expansive and connects to all beings via the heart the u has a downward dropping or descending quality the o has a circular and embracing quality of equality quality of equality and togetherness the e moves upwards the i is centered and balanced in the self and so if you'd like make movements that correspond to these directions and essence when you try this exercise with other vowel sounds or you can make up movements that feel good intuitively just feel relaxed have fun and enjoy namaste
