There were lots of guava trees at Faris Farm (Big Island of Hawaii), which I learned to eat fresh-picked, unpeeled, sliced into quarters, and sprinkled with salt. Since I’d never had a guava that wasn’t already juiced and packed into a carton, this was a new experience! A couple of years ago, I acquired a bamboo transverse flute with an Indonesian “suling scale” - this particular bamboo flute always has an optimistic outlook and inspires visions of faraway places. This solo flute improvisation was recorded on the porch of an off-grid cabin, at twilight, just as the coqui frogs began their evening song. Listen to this track at a low to medium volume to match the tranquility of a quiet rural Hawaiian evening.
