When you are grateful,
You can't be fearful or angry.
It's literally impossible.
Your brain won't allow you to do it.
So it's one of the best ways to shift out of fear and scarcity and into abundance and presence.
And this is something I had to practice when our horses got out and we didn't know where they were.
Picture this.
It's a lovely Sunday afternoon.
After a long week of doing,
My wife and I decide to relax and watch a movie.
Our horses were out in their grazing area enjoying some fresh grass,
Which they do daily.
Everyone's at peace.
My wife even fell asleep during the movie.
And as I'm watching,
All of a sudden I hear the horses galloping around.
Now,
That's something they love to do.
They like to play.
They like to frolic.
But my intuition told me that something might be up.
I look down at their grazing area and I don't see them.
Now,
This can happen because they might be in a valley or behind a tree.
So I don't think anything of it and I go back to watching the movie.
Then I get another nudge from my intuition.
So I head down to the area to see where they were and they were nowhere to be found.
I then notice the fence was down and they had busted through.
Now,
In the past,
When they got out,
Ollie,
Aka Oliver Sunshine,
Our big fancy Norwegian fjord,
Would typically just be outside the grazing area eating more grass.
And Norby,
Aka gorgeous Norbert,
Our little Mustang,
Would still be inside the area letting us know that Ollie had escaped.
But this time,
They were nowhere to be seen.
So I grab their lead ropes and halters and go to find them on our hundred acre ranch.
Now,
We've been taking them for walks over the property for them to graze,
So I start to check those areas first.
But they aren't there.
And then my intuition speaks up again and I know exactly where they are.
You see,
When we take them to this grazing area,
They're always looking up at this mountain.
So I knew where I needed to go.
Now,
Where we are,
There are big mountains and I had a feeling that they were probably on one of the bigger ones on the property.
So I take off straight up and as I get to the top,
I see our two boys looking at me like,
Hey dad,
Fancy seeing you here.
I walk right up to them,
Put their halters on with no issue,
And we start our way down the mountain.
And boy,
Was that an adventure.
Although I'm very skilled at climbing and descending steep mountains,
I've never done that before with two thousand plus pound horses behind me.
So again,
I trusted my intuition,
Took it slow,
Focused on being calm,
And went back and forth down the mountain instead of straight down.
We made it down safely.
My wife met me at the bottom and we started walking him back.
And just as I was beginning to feel a sense of relief,
My wife got hit with an extreme sickness.
All the color left her face,
She fell to the ground in this intense nausea and upset stomach.
Talk about bad timing.
So I had to take him back.
I just felt this moment of relief of,
Okay,
The adventure is over,
To realizing the adventure was still happening.
So I start walking him back and then Norby's halter fell off.
And this time he decided he wanted to enjoy his freedom a little more and started running around.
And then Ollie gets loose too.
I do my best to stay calm and tap into my intuition,
Because I knew I couldn't run after them.
I would never win that race.
But I also knew that they love to eat.
So I waited for them to stop and start grazing again.
Ollie still had his halter and lead rope on,
So he was easy to get.
But Norby,
Our little wild Mustang,
Was still not so sure.
However,
After a bit of patience and my wife regaining her strength,
She was able to get his halter back on.
Then I walk him straight back into their paddock with no issues.
It was quite the experience,
An opportunity to observe my inner dialogue.
There were so many times during this and after my limiting beliefs and negative thoughts were so strong.
Am I going to find them?
What if they got hurt?
Are they going to run me over going down the mountain?
What if I can't get their halter back on?
Are they going to break out again?
Do I have any idea what I'm doing?
Is my wife going to be okay?
And that is why focusing on gratitude is so important.
I was grateful that my intuition helped guide me through the whole process.
There's a fence around the entire property outside the grazing area,
Which they stayed in when they got out.
I could find the horses quickly.
I'm fit enough to go straight up a steep mountain.
I could halter both of the horses and then walk them back down the mountain.
When they broke free again,
We could get them back.
I could be an island of peace and remain calm as possible throughout the process.
I wasn't mad at them for being young horses and wanting to enjoy the beautiful property.
As a new horse person,
I felt a deep knowing inside of me of what to do.
My wife was okay and recovered quickly and that I learned so much in this adventure.
And that last one was the biggest one for me.
Life is full of ups and downs and the downs are there to teach you lessons you need to grow and evolve.
And when you see it that way,
And from a place of gratitude,
It shifts your whole perspective into one of possibility and abundance.
Come back to this track whenever you need to remind yourself of this truth.
