Hello my friend and welcome to Move Toward with Jenna where we learn to move toward all parts of ourselves with curiosity and compassion.
I'm Jenna and today we will move toward the part of ourself that feels like it's in our way and in doing so we will explore the internal family systems wisdom that tells us what's in the way is the way.
So we begin by drawing our awareness to the reality that at our core who we truly are is good,
Loving,
Calm,
Clear minded and noticing that when we don't feel good,
Loving,
Calm,
Or clear-minded it's not because our essential nature has changed but simply because a part of us has gotten activated and taken us over obscuring our access to our authentic core nature much like a cloud covering the Sun and when parts of us obscure our access to the calm,
Loving,
Clear-minded core it's not that they're bad or we're bad in any way.
These parts of us actually are the way to our deeper healing,
Our deeper experience of ourself.
These parts are flooding us and taking us over because they need our help in some way.
They teach us where our deeper healing lies.
So take a moment now to settle in and just begin to notice how you are feeling perhaps deepening your breath and closing your eyes and drawing your attention inward.
What parts of you are flooding right now?
You may begin to notice that you are feeling anxious or overwhelmed,
Withdrawn,
Numb,
Depressed.
Whatever the primary emotion or sensation you're aware of is the way for you in this moment.
This is exactly where your deeper healing lies.
So begin to focus on this part of you that is activated.
Maybe a sense of anxiety or sadness and grief.
You may begin to notice where it shows up in your body and as you do so see if you can actually welcome this part of you.
Allow it to be fully present without trying to shift it or change it in any way and don't worry if it's intense for a moment or two.
That's pretty normal when a part of us that really needs our love and care begins to receive that.
Know that this will begin to settle when it feels seen and heard.
Extend loving kindness or compassion to this part of you and if you can just letting this part of you know it's welcome here exactly as it is.
And when you begin to have a little bit of open-heartedness,
Can connect in with a little bit of loving kindness toward this part of you,
Then you're ready to move to step two which is know.
So simply ask this part of you what it wants you to know about itself and don't try to figure anything out just allow the answer to come from this part of you.
What do you want me to know about you?
You might ask this part of you why it is triggered right now,
Why it is taking you over.
You could ask this part of you when in your life it first learned to feel what it's feeling or to do what it's doing.
And you may begin to notice some memories or impressions of thoughts come up or maybe a physical sensation.
That's often how our parts communicate with us.
So if you're getting a sense of what's happening for this part of you,
What it wants you to know about itself,
Let it know that you see it,
That you're getting it,
And that you care.
It might feel helpful to let this part of you know that you,
That is to say your authentic core self,
You are here to care for it so it doesn't have to be alone with this pain or this load anymore.
Invite this part of you to really orient towards you,
Perhaps look you in the eye to really take you in and begin to connect to your loving presence here with it.
And when this part of you seems to really have a sense of you here with it in loving kindness and compassion,
When you feel like it's shared with you a few things that it wants you to know,
Then you're ready to move to step three which is need.
Ask this part of you what it needs from you to feel a little bit more comforted and a little less activated.
You may get a sense that this part would just like to be seen and loved,
A hug in your mind's eye,
Or it may need you to take an action in your outer world.
In either case,
Let it know that you can do these things and you will show up for it with loving leadership so that it doesn't have to take you over as much anymore.
And just notice how this part of you is doing with that,
That care,
That comfort,
That loving self-leadership.
You may notice that it's feeling much better now,
Much more relieved.
And if so you can ask this part if there's anywhere in your mind's eye that it would like to go with you that might feel more comfortable for it.
Often these parts of us get trapped back in painful memories and would feel very relieved to come forward to the present to a peaceful place like the beach or the mountains or a comfortable room.
So if anything of that nature seems to be a good fit,
Allowing this part of you to come with you to that place and just experience the comfort and nurturing that's available to it now.
When that feels complete for today,
You may want to extend some gratitude or appreciation to this part of you.
And as you feel ready,
Gently bringing your attention back out to the room around you.
You may want to reopen your eyes and take a couple of slow deep breaths as you return your awareness.
So thank you my friends for joining me today as we realize that the part of us that seems like it's in the way actually is the way.
And when we move toward it with curiosity and compassion this part of us will let us know where our deeper healing lies.
