Take 5 To Soothe Anxiety

When your mind is full or you feel anxious or fearful but don't have time to enter a long meditation, "take 5" to come into calm. In this short, body-centered practice, you are invited to sink in, to feel your body, to lengthen your breath, and to remember that you are safe and healthy. This easy path of mindfulness de-stresses and boosts the immune system.

You are amazing.

Look at you.

You've found your way here.

That is a huge step towards befriending whatever anxiety you might be feeling in these uncertain days and time.

Taking just five minutes to come into mindfulness and your body,

To rest from the incessant thoughts is a tremendous,

Tremendous thing to do to keep yourself healthy right now,

To keep yourself out of the anxiety spiral.

So come on now.

We have five minutes.

Let's do this.

Taking a deep inhale and a longer exhale will begin the calming.

Now imagine that your consciousness can take an elevator down out of the mind and into the body.

All those thoughts in the mind,

Imagine that they walk into an elevator and you push the button that says down and your awareness and consciousness,

Your center of gravity begins to sink.

Really moving down,

You might imagine this elevator moving through your jaw,

Through your throat,

Your collarbones,

And the shoulder area.

And anywhere now that you feel to have it stop from your heart to your belly to your pelvic region or all the way down to the soles of your feet.

And wherever it stops,

You stop.

Let's imagine you have stopped in your feet.

Your mind and all your awareness is in your feet right now.

And further down now,

Expanding now from the soles of your feet,

You send roots downward,

Allowing yourself to feel very connected to this planet Earth.

Feel how connected you are,

The mycelium network that moves from your feet and into this mama Earth who is holding you right now.

Take a deep breath and allow all of the energy in your body now to move towards that earthly hug,

That gravity that wants to ground us and calm us.

Feeling your toes and the soles of your feet exquisitely now.

Any sensation you feel there,

Notice.

Feeling your ankles,

Going up your legs and into the pelvic cradle.

Feel your belly,

All of the beauty and health and vibrancy that is there.

And feeling your heart breathing right into the heart.

And let's remind ourselves of some things right now.

You might say these words with me,

I am safe.

Everything here with me in this moment is completely safe.

I am here,

Present,

In the now.

I am connected to Earth.

I feel my body.

I feel my feet in connection with Earth.

My calm is contagious.

My love is the most contagious thing that exists on the planet.

And breathing in through the nose and letting your exhale stretch out longer through your mouth.

And one more breath inhaled through the nose and with this exhale allow a sigh.

And you don't have to return to your mind as your primary destination or home place.

Your body has all the intelligence you need and more to get you through your day.

So as we close,

Take a few seconds in your heart to say thank you,

Trusting this time we are in,

Sending out love,

Receiving connection,

And knowing you are safe.
