Here is something worth considering.
You have never actually lived in the past.
You have never actually lived in the future either.
Every single moment of your life,
Every meal,
Every conversation,
Every sunrise,
Every difficult day has happened right here in the present moment.
And yet most of us spend the majority of our time anywhere but here.
We are in many ways professional time travelers.
Years,
Mentally commuting between yesterday and tomorrow,
Rarely stopping long enough to actually inhabit today.
It's a remarkable thing when you think about it.
We are here but we are not really here.
And the funny part is that the present moment is not hiding.
It's not hard to find.
It's literally the only place anything is actually happening.
It's just that nobody told us to notice it.
So here's what I want to try with you today.
Something small,
Something that takes about 90 seconds and something that might make you laugh because it's ridiculously simple.
I want you to act like a tourist.
Not in a foreign city,
Right where you are,
Right now.
You know,
Tourists notice things that locals stopped seeing years ago.
They look up,
They slow down,
They find the ordinary genuinely interesting.
They are not thinking about their inbox.
They are here,
Curious,
Awake,
Actually looking.
So,
Tourist mode,
Let's go.
Look around the space you are in right now as if you have never seen it before.
Notice something you have genuinely never paid attention to,
A shadow,
A texture,
The way the light is landing right now in this exact moment that it has never landed in before and never will again.
Just do it right now.
Now,
Notice a sound,
Something you have been hearing without actually listening to.
Feel the weight of your own body,
The simple,
Quiet fact of being a physical thing in a physical space in this very moment.
Congratulations,
You just arrived.
That is presence,
Not a spiritual achievement,
Not the result of years of practice,
Just actually showing up to your own life for 90 seconds.
Do that a few times today.
Be a tourist in your own day.
Notice what was always there.
Your life has been happening without you catching most of it.
And that changed now.
