Meeting Your Inner Child

This meditation is considered an introduction to meeting your inner child. The Inner child could literally be considered as an aspect of ourselves frozen in time from our childhood. The inner child simply wants to feel good, like eating a bunch of candy or ice cream not considering the consequences of doing so. The inner child may be suppressed or scared to come out, or maybe loud and overzealous but is very unique to you. Connecting with this part can open a door to healing and/or self-growth.

Hi,

I'm Anne-Marie,

Your meditation guide.

And let us set the intention for this meditation for you to meet your inner child.

Everybody has an inner child.

And this is an opportunity for you to meet and to get to know or understand this aspect within you that may want to express more or may need some healing or help from you.

And so I would say to be open to what it is that you may receive from your inner child.

To be able to grow and learn from this aspect.

And now let's start by having a comfortable seat,

Preferably on a cushion or in a chair,

But not lying down or sleeping so that you may be awake and fully aware throughout this whole process.

And as you find a comfortable seat,

Go ahead and allow your eyes to very gently close and begin to shift your attention now to your breath.

Focusing on that breath,

Notice the very gentle rise and fall of your breath and just observe it.

Allowing that breath to go ahead and begin to shift you.

We're going to go ahead and take three very deep breaths.

But as you exhale,

Very slowly exhale and allow that breath to just melt away any tensions that your body may be feeling.

And go ahead,

Let's start now by taking a big breath in.

And on the slow,

Easy exhale,

Simply thinking in your mind,

Relax.

And again,

Take another very big breath in.

And on the very slow,

Easy exhale,

Thinking relaxed.

And one last time,

Another big breath in.

And on the slow,

Easy exhale,

Relaxing and allowing any tensions to just drift away.

As you now begin to breathe normally.

Begin to notice from the top of your head any tensions that you may be feeling there.

And simply imagine as if a wave was beginning to wave from the top of your head,

Going down through your face,

Relaxing all of your facial muscles,

Loosening your jaw area,

Going down towards your shoulders.

Allow those shoulders to be loose and limp.

Allowing your arms to comfortably rest even more as they may be there rested at your sides or on your lap.

Feeling that wave go down those arms,

Relaxing every muscle,

Tendon and fiber in those arms.

Simply loosening and relaxing.

Going down to your hands and your fingertips.

Relaxing your hands.

Relaxing them.

Go ahead and imagine that wave going back up those arms,

Relaxing again,

Any areas.

Going back to your shoulders and in through your chest.

Focus back on that chest.

And maybe begin to notice that very gentle rise and fall of the breath and the shifting towards your belly maybe.

And how your belly too is beginning to soften now as you focus on your breath.

Allowing each easy breath to just relax you more and more.

Going further down through your hips.

Relaxing those hips.

And maybe beginning to notice your body and its position here.

How gravity pulls upon your body very gently allowing your body to be supported right now.

So there's nothing to need to worry about or think about besides just focusing on your body and allowing it to be more and more comfortable sitting here.

Going down through those hips and into those thighs.

Relaxing the thighs and loosening from skin to bones.

Relaxing.

Going down through your knees.

Going down through your calves.

And all the way to your ankles and your toes.

Relaxing.

Releasing and allowing any tensions from your entire body to just simply melt away.

And as you shift deeper and deeper into a relaxing state,

You begin to notice your body becoming more light and relaxed.

And I want you to go ahead and now pretend.

Pretend as if you were just entering into a meadow.

A beautiful meadow.

And maybe standing there as you can feel the grass beneath your feet or your toes.

And I want you to imagine as if there was a path in this meadow.

As you begin to walk forward,

You'll begin to notice in front of you a forest forming.

As you step closer and closer to this forest,

You begin to relax even more with each easy,

Calm,

Relaxing step.

Getting closer and closer to this forest.

I wonder if you'll notice the colors on the trees.

If it'll be fall time and you'll see.

Reds,

Oranges,

And yellows maybe.

Or if it will be that perfect summer day and the lush green is so bright and beautiful.

I wonder how tall those trees will stand.

If this will be a scene that maybe you've seen before in person,

In a magazine,

Or on TV.

Go ahead and imagine whatever you'd like to imagine as you can see this forest.

This beautiful forest forming in front of you.

As you begin to realize it's time for you to go into this forest.

As your path leads inside of it and you step into it.

Walking in this forest,

You notice the trees becoming more dense as you walk in.

I wonder if you'll notice the ground beneath you and maybe hear a nice little crunchy sound of those leaves on the floor.

Or if you'll just feel that soft dirt or grass beneath your toes still.

As you walk further and deeper into the scene.

Allowing the scene to become more intense and clear for you.

Like I wonder if you'll see birds or hear them chirping up in the tree tops.

Or if you'll notice the perfect distance of the sun and its rays piercing through the tree tops.

Maybe feeling it beneath your skin,

Causing your body to feel very calm and relaxed because of it.

I wonder if at any moment you could even hear,

Maybe,

The sound of a creek in the distance,

Which is calming you even more.

As you begin to walk,

You begin to notice this path is leading towards a staircase shortly in front of you.

As you step up to the staircase,

You look down and notice ten steps going down to the very depths of this forest.

A very deep relaxed place in this forest that is taking you towards a park down there.

In order for you to reach that area,

You must relax even more.

So each step represents you relaxing even more.

And even doubling your level of relaxation,

Each step you go down.

As we start from the number ten,

You will be so incredibly relaxed by the time we get to the number one.

Leading us to that park down there.

And go ahead and starting with the tenth step at the top.

Go ahead and step down and relax even more.

Relaxing even more.

Relaxing even more.

To number nine.

And going down.

Down.

Down.

To number eight.

And drifting away.

Drifting away.

To number seven.

And going deeper down.

Deeper down.

Deeper down.

Deeper down.

To number six.

And letting go.

Letting go.

Letting go.

To number five.

And becoming more relaxed.

More relaxed.

More relaxed.

To number four.

Going deeper.

And deeper.

And deeper down.

Down.

To number three.

Going within.

And letting go.

Getting more relaxed.

More relaxed.

More relaxed.

To number two.

And drifting away.

Drifting away.

Drifting away.

Down.

Down.

Down.

Down to number one.

And now stepping down at the very depth of this forest.

And noticing right there in front of you as you begin to walk towards that park.

Seeing swings maybe.

Maybe you'll see a little monkey bars.

Noticing your favorite playground that maybe you even played in once.

As you notice there in the steps of this forest,

This beautiful area meant for play.

As you look ahead,

You begin to see a figure coming close to you on a path.

Coming towards you from the distance.

As this figure gets closer and closer,

You notice it is a little person there.

A smaller person,

Smaller than you.

As you see this person coming closer and closer,

You begin to recognize them.

Realizing that they are you.

They are a younger version of you.

As they begin to walk,

You begin to notice how old they look.

As they come closer,

Standing a very short distance from you,

You start to make out what they're wearing.

And go ahead and observe and see what it is that they're wearing.

How their hair looks maybe.

Maybe you'll notice their facial expression.

And go ahead and introduce yourself to this person as they get close enough to be right there in front of you.

Go ahead and let them know that I am you.

Go ahead and introduce yourself.

And let the other one,

The little one,

Introduce them however they need to or feel comfortable with doing so.

I wonder if they will speak words or maybe just give gestures to you.

But there will be a form of communication that you will be able to understand however you'd like to make it.

It doesn't have to be in words,

But can even be in a letter or writing notes to each other if this part of you feels comfortable to do so.

However the communication needs to occur,

Go ahead and allow it.

Introducing each other.

As you are them.

And they are you.

But a much younger version of you there within you.

Now as the adult sense of yourself I want you to prepare to ask questions to this inner child.

The first question being,

Are you happy with the person I have become?

Go ahead and ask your inner child and allow the transmission to occur.

And what this younger version will tell you.

I'll be silent now,

Allowing that to happen.

And now the next question asking,

Are you happy with the life that I have created for us?

And allow that inner child to express itself and to tell you the answer.

And now asking,

How do you feel about me?

And now lastly,

I want you to ask yourself as the adult sense of you,

How do you feel about your inner child?

And notice any feelings or emotions that come up.

And now beginning to end the dialogue.

Or if you choose you can go ahead and allow yourself to ask further questions if you want to.

But if you don't then go ahead and use this time to say your goodbyes.

But before you do be sure to let them know that you will be back.

You will be back to speak more or help them or just get to know them or spend time with them.

But just let them know that you are here and they are never alone.

You are always with them and you can choose to listen to them anytime you wish to.

But let this inner child know that you are always here,

Helping,

Supporting and wanting to create the life that they are happy with too.

So go ahead while I am silent to continue or to end this dialogue.

And now go ahead and say your goodbyes by giving maybe a hug or a high five or away from the distance whatever your inner child is comfortable with.

So that you can go ahead and depart this scene knowing that you can return back to it anytime that you wish.

You could even go and play in the park if you choose to.

But as you say your goodbyes knowing that this is you.

This is always a part of you.

So be kind to it.

Love it.

You should be grateful for this aspect of you that is so innocent,

So pure,

So joyous and wanting to just be a kid.

So embrace this aspect of you when it is appropriate.

And allow this part of you to learn to express itself however it needs to in the most healthy way.

Because now we begin to close out and want to bring your attention more to your breath.

As you begin to notice your breath allow it to calm you any way that it needs to.

Wanting to slowly bring you back here,

Allowing it to be a calm easy breath allow it to bring you back to the room that you're in.

Knowing that you can return to that place anytime that you wish.

You just simply have to imagine it.

Because you can remember that place you can return back to it anytime really.

As you begin to notice your hands now.

Your feet,

Your toes.

And if you choose you could even stretch them a little bit.

Realizing your body and where it is right now.

And gently feeling your eyelids as they remain closed.

Remembering maybe the scene that you had right before you closed your eyes.

As you begin to slowly exit from this image of you in this space that you imagined.

Feeling to wake up a little bit more and maybe stretching and breathing even more.

Getting ready for your day.

Knowing that today is going to be a beautiful day because you've met a very beautiful aspect within you.

So now begin to stretch even more.

Wake up more and more to the sound of my voice.

As you become more aware of the space that you're in.

And when you're ready and only when you're ready.

Opening your eyes and being very present to your present day cautious form of your adult self.

And I thank you.
