I'm Heidi.
Today,
I'll be guiding you through a meditation to help you come back to your centre to get through challenging and stressful moments in your life.
Please come to a comfortable seat,
Sitting upright with your eyes closed.
Take a few moments to do a body scan,
Noticing if you are holding on to any tension in your body.
Is there discomfort or tightness in your hips,
Lower back,
Upper back,
Neck or jaw?
If you notice something,
See if you can soften that area and physically release that tension.
Take a moment to notice what that feels like.
Do you feel more relaxed?
Now,
Bring your awareness to your breath.
Notice how the breath moves in and out of your body.
Notice how your chest or your belly expands as you inhale and contracts as you exhale.
Inhale,
Exhale.
Keep your awareness on your breath.
Throughout this meditation,
Your mind may wander.
With compassion,
Guide your awareness back to your breath.
Imagine that you are on a rollercoaster ride and you are safely strapped in for an exhilarating ride.
As you move up to the top of the ride,
You brace yourself for what is to come.
When you reach the drop,
What happens to you physically?
You might clench your jaw,
Dig your heels in and hold on as tight as you can to the safety bar,
Thinking that holding on tighter will make the drop easier or go by faster.
But did it?
Was the drop any less scary or shorter because of your tight grip?
Or did it only add to your anxiety and physical discomfort?
Holding on tight added no value.
If anything,
It did the opposite.
This ride is like the scary and uncomfortable moments in life,
With its ups and downs.
When you experience these moments and find yourself in a downward spiral,
Do you hold on tighter?
Adding more stress and anxiety to an already challenging situation?
You have the capacity to overcome any challenge.
Have faith in your own abilities and let go.
Take a few deep breaths.
Unclench your fists,
Relax your jaw and lift your feet off the ground.
Know that you will be okay.
Let go of that bar and enjoy the exhilarating rollercoaster ride.
No matter what ups and downs you experience,
You will get through them.
Not because you have it all figured out,
But because you now see every moment in your life as an opportunity to learn and grow.
And you have the ability to face each challenge that comes your way.
With a calm and clear mind,
You will find the tools you need to overcome these challenges.
Trust in yourself,
Let go and enjoy the ride.
Please take a slow breath in and a slow gentle breath out.
Take a few moments as you bring your awareness to your fingers.
Move them,
Maybe even roll your wrists.
Feel free to stretch and open your eyes.
