Hi,
Welcome to Grit.
Today's meditation will focus on finding some space when we feel like life is overloading us.
It's so easy to get overwhelmed with all the things,
Isn't it?
Sometimes we just need to take a few moments to clear some room.
So find a comfortable position with your body,
Somewhere where physical sensations won't bother you,
Whether it's sitting up or laying down.
Eyes open or eyes closed up to you.
If you choose to keep your eyes open,
Just gaze at something with softness in your eyes,
Not looking around your space.
Let's start by noticing our body.
How does it feel today?
What's happening?
Is there somewhere we can let go a little bit more?
Can we soften into any tight areas?
Just remember that if you need to adjust your position at any time,
Just please feel free to do so.
This is your meditation.
Now let's notice how we're feeling on the inside.
How is your heart feeling today?
Let's take a moment to notice what comes up and then we'll just let that go.
And then let's focus on the breath.
How does your breath feel today?
Is it tight and choppy and jagged or is it pretty smooth and even?
We don't need to attach a story to this.
Just notice it and then let it go.
So I invite us to drop it all for the next few minutes.
Let's settle.
Let's explore a bit.
What would happen if we dropped all the extra things?
All the voices in our head that told us we needed to be a certain way.
All the expectations around ourselves and how others perceive us.
What if we dropped the ideas about how we look?
What if we drop the concern over what others think about us?
About our specific roles in the world?
For the next few minutes can we let it all fall away so that all that remains is our quiet heart?
Can we sit in that space?
What does that feel like?
So when our mind wanders and it's probably wandered for you a few times for sure by now,
We just remind ourselves that that's our mind's job.
We notice what came up for us and we let it go.
Those things will all still be waiting for us once we're done but maybe they're not so useful right now.
Our mind will always be working in the background.
We can't stop it but we can ask it to focus on something else like our breath.
So let's come back to our breath again and again and again.
And for the next few moments I invite you to imagine the many thoughts we have as colorful shapes swirling around in our head and with each long exhale each shape drops down into the pit of our stomach where the shapes corresponding whole awaits.
Kind of like that game that toddlers play.
We're giving each thought a quiet space to rest in for now.
It can and it will resurface but probably we don't need it swirling around incessantly.
Let's explore how that feels and I'll be here holding space for you as you explore.
And as our meditation comes to a close maybe we ask ourselves what would happen if we didn't constantly carry that burden?
That backpack of worry and stress and pressure.
What would happen if we loosened our grip on it all?
What would happen if we surrendered?
Our higher self doesn't want us to be so weighed down with the burden of it all.
Our higher self is trying to show us our path.
It's our own ego that thinks we can control it all.
Can we imagine even for a brief second the joy we could feel the relief if we just put it all down?
What if we surrendered?
What if we gave in to the twists and turns that life is leading us on?
And so what if tomorrow morning when we wake up instead of putting on that backpack of heavy before we even wipe the sleep from our eyes we decide not to.
We decide to be lighter.
And whenever you feel ready feel free to softly open your eyes.
Take a few moments to let whatever came up land where it needs to land.
And give yourself a smile for giving your brain some love today.
Have a wonderful day.
Thank you for being here.
