This is an embodied meditation and movement practice for those times when facing the world with your broken heart feels unmanageable. Moving towards those painful sensations is actually the quickest way to find presence and be functional for the rest of your life. This is a gentle practice in doing just that. Welcome to your body.

This is a practice for facing the day with grief.

You can do it from your bed,

You can do it sitting down before you leave for the day.

Anytime that you feel overwhelmed by grief as you move throughout your day,

I invite you to stop and find a place to engage in this practice.

This is a practice of moving in and towards the sensations that are coming up in your body so that you can be present with the rest of your day and life.

So wherever you are,

I just invite you to decide right now whether open eyes or closed eyes are best for you.

This is a somewhat active practice so have some space around you so you can move freely.

And you can just start by taking a breath and another and one more coming into presence here and moving from top to bottom of your body.

I invite you to place your hands on your head and you can start tapping them.

You can also just simply hold your head.

Maybe even a massage feels good.

So just sensing for yourself what kind of pressure,

What kind of touch feels best in this part of your body.

Allow yourself to sway as you make contact with your head.

And just continuing to move down your body so connecting with your face.

You might massage your jaw.

Often we hold a lot of tension there.

Again,

You can just make contact with your face.

Again,

This can be a tapping,

This can be a holding,

This can be a massage or something in between but just making contact in some way.

Continuing to sway and moving down to your neck.

Noticing that your pressure feels good here.

Knowing that the throat is often painful or cut off in grief.

Do what you need to do to open up some space here.

Don't let your head fall off the back of your neck.

Invitation to circle your head a few times in each direction.

You might open your mouth and let out some sounds,

Getting ready to face the day here but going gently.

Moving down your body so making contact with your chest,

Your shoulders,

Your arms,

Your elbows,

Your lower arms and wrists and hands.

Your belly,

And your lower back.

Just continuing to sway and allowing any other movement that wants to come.

Noticing what kind of pressure feels good on different parts of your body.

If the pressure on your head was a massage or holding it might be a tapping or a holding.

On your lower back just sense for yourself what feels best.

Moving down to your hips,

The beautiful bowl of your pelvis.

Even a gentle squeeze.

I'm here,

I'm in this body,

I'm connected to the earth.

No matter what you do,

You can do it.

I'm in this body,

I'm connected to the earth,

No matter what.

Continuing to move down your legs,

Squeezing or tapping or massaging.

Remembering to attend to your ankles and feet,

All the little bones and muscles that hold you up.

Take a breath here.

If your eyes aren't already I invite you to gently open them.

And perhaps sweep your arms down and bring them up over your head.

And drop them on the exhale.

If that felt good,

Let's do it two more times.

So bringing your arms down and up.

And releasing on the exhale.

Once more.

Reaching,

Reaching up,

Feeling your feet on the earth.

And dropping on the exhale.

Taking a moment here.

To place your hand,

One hand on your heart,

The other on your belly.

And just breathe.

And just notice any changes that happened.

Looking gently around your room.

Around your space.

And finding your feet.

And going forward.

I often wake feeling disoriented and disconnected by grief. This was so comforting 🎁
