The Heart - A Portal To Our True Nature
Seeing the world through the eyes of the heart, you experience your true nature. This guided meditation is a journey into the depth of your consciousness, allowing you to feel relaxed, open, and aware. It was inspired by Geshe Michael Roach.
Transcript
My name is Gerald Blomile and I wrote and recorded this podcast meditation for you.
Enjoy.
Make yourself comfortable.
You may either sit or lie down.
Notice where your body is either supported by the floor or by a cushion or chair.
Feel the gravity.
Let the weight sink downwards.
Close your eyes gently.
Look up slightly above the horizon.
Let your hands soften and relax.
Put on a half smile.
Your forehead is smooth.
Your eyes are soft.
Relax your jaw.
Hear all sounds,
Near and far.
Without naming them,
Let them come and go like raindrops.
Pay attention to the silence in which they appear and disappear.
Our minds cannot accept anything unconditionally.
We judge everything we experience.
In this way we disguise the quality of awareness.
There's always an agenda,
Even if it is well hidden.
Thoughts allow you to feel powerful and capable of great things.
They also allow you to feel helpless and limited.
What you think about yourself has tremendous power.
And therefore we begin this meditation with the following intent.
The world is in danger.
It needs me.
I can't see it clearly as it is created by my mind and the way I interact with others.
I will meditate to understand how things really are.
I intend to open my heart and to surrender to what is.
This challenges our strategic thinking.
Giving up control can be frightening.
An open heart,
On the other hand,
Unconditionally accepts things as they are.
It is infinitely patient and compassionate.
We realize that we are not our thoughts and feelings,
But the open awareness in which they come and go.
First rest in open awareness.
Try to listen to this meditation without trying to achieve anything.
You're always aware,
Without effort.
Experience happens and disappears in awareness.
Notice that your body is breathing by itself.
Observe the gentle rise and fall of your abdomen.
Step into the flow of each breath and experience a feeling of well-being spreading throughout your body.
Direct your attention inward to the mind.
Notice that the ego manifests itself through thinking,
Feeling,
And judging.
It always wants to do something.
It feels challenged,
Confused,
Hurt,
Or disappointed.
Look inwards.
Notice the sensations moving.
They arise and pass away,
Allowing new ones to arise and pass away.
Our sense of identity,
Connectedness,
Or limitation is constantly coming and going.
Direct your attention to your right hand and feel the sensations in the palm.
Now feel the sensations in the palm of your left hand.
Open your focus and feel the sensations in both hands at once.
Notice that you have to let go of your directed focus.
The open focus allows you to feel wide and spacious.
Notice that you cannot think at the same time.
Focus on your right eye and then on your left eye.
Relax and allow both eyes to be in the center of your attention at the same time.
Allow both eyes to soften.
Feel the space around your eyes.
Feel the space inside your head and the position of your eyes.
How does this affect your cheeks,
Jaw,
Or the whole head?
Feel relaxation spreading throughout your body.
Notice that thinking slows down or even stops.
Relax even further.
Feel the breath flowing through both nostrils.
Let it become as subtle as your thoughts.
Imagine it flowing up into your head and into your brain.
Feel the breath moving without disturbing the silence.
And let a feeling of well-being arise.
Imagine how the breath gently sharpens your mind.
As you experience the space in your head,
Notice that you're entering a conscious space that permeates the whole body.
Notice the stillness of the space and the movement of the breath.
When thoughts and feelings appear in this wide space,
They're like transparent clouds that disappear.
You experience,
And at the same time you are the source of everything.
You are present and inseparable from the wide expanse.
Now direct your attention to the heart.
Notice your heartbeat.
Imagine there is a tiny,
Beautiful meditation room in the heart,
Filled with sunlight.
Feel that you are in this bright space.
The heartbeat sounds very distant.
Inside is a tiny pearl.
Focus your attention on it and enter into the pearl.
Once inside you find yourself in another beautiful but very tiny meditation room.
Discover a red rose with a tiny crystal in the center.
The rose represents love.
The crystal represents the wisdom of dependent origination.
This means everything is a process and nothing is permanent.
Let your attention enter into the crystal,
Into a clear space.
Discover an entrance into a deep ocean.
It is as though you're floating in the warm salt water.
The ocean is very wide and still.
Experience the silence and the happiness of being in this quiet and safe place.
Raise your eyes to the vast blue sky above.
Let the mind become very calm.
There's nothing to do.
Let yourself be drawn into the infinite expanse.
When thoughts arise,
Notice that they're transparent and dissolve like clouds.
There is no tension.
Everything happens without effort.
The space expands further into endless space.
This is your true nature,
Recognizing awareness.
There is nothing to focus on.
Surrender completely into deep silence.
There is nothing to do,
Nothing to decide.
Now imagine a person you trust.
They have supported and really like you.
Let them tell you something very important.
Just listen.
Let them guide you.
Trust what they say.
Remember that this person is always there for you.
Feel balanced,
Centered,
And calm.
You have the opportunity to grow in any way you want.
How does this feel?
Realize that you already have everything you need.
You have always been complete and protected,
Even if you have not noticed.
Trust.
Be courageous and patient to make your dreams come true.
Remember what it feels like to be balanced and in harmony.
There is nothing to do,
Nothing to achieve.
There is no goal,
No control,
Only vastness and silence.
Once again be aware of the still ocean and the endless horizon.
Experience your mind once again inside the tiny crystal.
Notice the larger space inside the pearl at your heart center.
Feel the heart beating around you.
Now look down on the heart.
Bring your attention back to your breath.
How is it flowing?
Notice how your body is supported.
Feel gravity.
Feel grounded.
Keeping your eyes closed,
Start moving your fingers and toes.
Feel calm,
Safe,
And relaxed.
Remember what the person you trusted said to you.
Now stretch your body and when you are ready sit up with closed eyes.
There is no hurry.
Notice how relaxed you feel in your body and how calm your mind is.
Be aware that you can face any challenge with this relaxed awareness.
You can return to your true nature at any time.
Then you can also remain longer in pure awareness.
In everyday life we strive for a balance between concentration and openness,
Between doing and being.
Only in the balance can we understand the world clearly and act appropriately.
Notice the quality of being aware and the warm,
Open-hearted,
Alert presence.
As you exhale,
Shine this feeling as rays of light from your heart to your family,
Friends,
And the whole world.
May all beings live in peace and harmony.
