Welcome to this inner child therapeutic meditation.
I'm Fred Wood and before we begin it's important to understand that this is a powerful deeply healing meditation with substantial life benefits.
However,
If you're currently in the care of a mental health professional please ask them first to see if inner child work is right for you at this time.
This meditation is inspired by the work of John Bradshaw among others and rests on the principle that each of us when we were very young were innocent beautiful little beings who were immensely lovable,
Curious and open to all the wonders of the world.
Over the course of our lives we can lose sight of that and may need to connect or reconnect with that child.
In a moment you're going to visit your inner child but first make yourself comfortable.
I'll ask you to take a big and satisfying deep breath in now,
Feeling your ribs expand and then just let that air out slowly and easily and again.
Become aware of how long the in-breath lasts and let your eyes close slightly as you breathe out.
Breathing through your nose let your jaw muscles and your tongue relax.
You might notice your eyes relaxing more,
Letting go of any distraction,
Letting all concerns or worries escape with your breath as you breathe out.
Settle into the rhythm of breathing and let your eyes close completely now if they haven't already.
You can let your body naturally take over the breathing and as you do you can bring your attention to the area around your heart.
Imagine breathing through the area of your heart.
You might put your hand on your heart to keep your focus there or you may just bring your attention to the area around your heart,
Letting your breath flow in and flow out.
And as you think about that,
Just easily and gently allow this comfort to spread through your body.
Easily and gently resting in this comfort.
Easily and gently letting go of any thoughts or concerns.
As you keep breathing into your heart area,
Think about finding a space somewhere inside,
Away from all your other thoughts.
A place of quiet and calm,
Somewhere safe and warm,
Deep down inside where there is stillness.
You don't even need to pay attention to the sound of my voice because you already know something wonderful is about to happen.
A new experience being offered to you and the benefits that come from this experience.
What you allow yourself to do will all come clear in time and you can discover the most appropriate way to bring healing to you and your inner child.
So with the intention to bring only positive images and memories,
Bring to mind an image of yourself as a child.
Perhaps something you remember from an old photograph.
It can even be something from your imagination.
You might first notice the expression on your little face or the small clothes or the size of your head.
Maybe the plumpness of your little arms and legs.
See yourself as a child absorbed in the wonder of the world around you.
Allow the environment in this picture to expand just as the comfort inside you expand.
Allow the area around your inner child to spread in your mind's eye.
Notice whether you see the child sitting or standing,
You inside or outside.
Let your imagination fully form the images and even if the image is not clear you can pretend you're here with a very young version of you.
Finding that sensation of being with someone.
Letting all the feelings emerge and take a moment to let these images or sensations form.
As the child notices you and smile,
You might notice yourself smiling back.
You as you are now,
Sharing the same space with you as a child.
And as you think about that you can remember you're here to provide love and protection.
Find yourself moving over and sitting down near the child.
A beautiful innocent child.
At this time the child may wish to speak to you or simply to observe you.
And as children respond to play,
You might find something nearby like a ball or a toy.
You might want to roll the ball gently toward the child or make a toy figure stand up and walk.
In a moment you'll speak to your inner child but first we will give the child time to speak to you or to adjust to you.
Now imagine looking into your inner child's big eyes and repeat the following words.
I am here for you.
I will always be here for you.
From now on you will never be alone.
I'm here to guide you.
I'm here to protect you.
There is nothing to be afraid of now.
I will always be with you because I am you.
With you forever.
You are love.
You might imagine the child stretching out their arms to be picked up.
Feel the reassurance,
The joy,
And the love.
You are creating a bond that will last a lifetime.
A bridge across time that heals in unexpected ways.
A love,
Guidance,
And protection that gets stronger in each moment here.
This is a timeless,
Unbreakable,
Ever-strengthening bridge and whenever your inner child needs attention,
You will be here.
In a moment you will say goodbye and let this child return to the past.
But you've created a bridge that will change your life because you are saying goodbye only to the fear or loneliness in your past.
Your inner child need never be left alone again or feel fearful or unloved.
As you say goodbye to this child for now,
You can leave the child smiling and contented.
And in your life,
Notice your old limiting beliefs will no longer hold any power over you.
Letting this reconnection continue to emerge now and for the rest of your life.
Coming back fully into here and now on the count of three.
One,
Reorienting to this time and space.
Two,
Knowing the bridge is always open.
And three,
Feeling renewed and restored,
Capable and confident,
Better than before.
