Overcoming Cravings,

Dependency and Addiction There is a powerful image that comes from India of the Five Horse Chariot.

The Five Horse Chariot is a metaphor for the body,

The soul and the five senses.

Each of the five horses represents a sense of smell,

Taste,

Touch,

Sight and sound.

The chariot represents the body,

The direction in which it will be pulled.

And the charioteer is the soul.

The five horses have the tendency to pull the chariot in their own direction,

Each trying to run uncontrollably.

But when the charioteer is strong,

He brings the senses or the horses into control.

Take a few moments now and practice just being the observer of your senses.

One by one,

Withdraw your attention from each sense,

Allowing it to cool off.

Starting with the sense of touch,

Then the sense of taste,

Then the sense of smell.

Then the sense of sight.

And finally,

Sound.

When we drop the belief that we are the body and remember the truth of being spirit or consciousness.

We begin to overcome our cravings,

Dependency and addiction.

Hand in hand with this accurate identity comes the simple understanding that peace,

Happiness,

Love and joy are the very nature of the human being,

The spirit,

The self.

And these come from the inside out,

Not outside in.

Finally your cravings and dependencies on stimulants,

Atrophy until they no longer exist.

Thank you.

A mind trip I have revisited many times with hopes to absorb. This one seems key.

I enjoyed hearing that the desires atrophy. As a sober woman, it gives me a good visual, as well as the chariot and 5 horsemen.

Although unable to identify with the notion of addiction this is nonetheless a useful exercise in offloading the five senses one by one. Thank you for sharing! 😊

Wow! I feel like you are giving us a taster of such profound truths but then I’m left wanting to understand more? I’m getting it but not fully getting it!!! I’m going through all your sessions, and feeling the same? I want to understand these truths on a deeper level? Any suggestions? Books? Teachings? I love the image of the horses and chariot, and will meditate more on that!

Cravings and physical senses... Well this was what my presentation was about, so I'm blessed to have this pretty dialed in for 15 yrs, so I am in the teaching role now. However oi still am human and struggle with obsessions of the mind and faulty thinking to surrender... It is but a daily reprieve to turn over to my Huge Heavenly Father and in exchange accepting how important I am to Him even if not too anyone else in the world... But doing His will for me and bring in alignment helps for all of this to fall away... And instead to use the 5 senses as they were intended- to experience the beauty of nature & life He created and as protection but giving us information to keep us safe. Only indulging in selfish means, staying in victim role, and being manipulated by Big Industry convolutes this. For this I ask for awareness daily so I can "vote" with my money and presence.
