Welcome.
In today's practice,
We will reconnect with your inner flame and release the fear and tension that have built up around your voice to allow your authentic expression to emerge naturally from self-love rather than self-doubt.
Please find a comfortable seated position.
Allow your spine to lengthen gently and your shoulders to soften.
If it feels comfortable,
Close your eyes or lower your gaze.
Take a slow breath in and exhale fully.
Again,
Inhale deeply and exhale fully.
One more time like this.
Inhale deeply and exhale fully.
Allow your body to settle.
Notice the space around you,
The support beneath you,
The gentle rhythm of your breath.
Anytime during this practice,
If anything feels overwhelming,
You are welcome to return to this rise and fall of your breath.
Guide your awareness to your throat,
Chest and your jaw.
These are the places where many of us hold tension,
When we're holding back from expressing ourselves.
Notice if there's any tightness in your throat,
Pressure in your chest.
Or tension in your jaw.
These sensations are often the body's memory of holding words back,
Words you wished you could say,
Needs that were not welcomed when you expressed them.
Well,
Acknowledge this and gently say to yourself inwardly,
Yes,
I learned to hold back.
I was protecting myself.
Allow yourself to feel and acknowledge this.
And then as you exhale,
Imagine you soften and melt any tension,
Holding,
Or contraction from these areas.
Let's do this two more rounds.
Inhale deeply into all of these areas and exhale fully,
Letting any holding back,
Any tension melt away.
One last round like this.
Inhale deeply and in your own time,
Exhale fully,
Dissolving,
Releasing,
Letting go.
Now,
Bring to mind a situation where you held back your voice.
See yourself in that situation through your mind's eye and notice any thoughts that arise.
This might sound like,
They never listen to me,
Or I might upset someone,
Or it's safer to stay quiet.
These thoughts are understandable.
They often appear when we've been hurt or dismissed before.
Observe them as passing clouds in the blue sky of your mind.
Notice that the thoughts are not you.
You are the one observing them.
And you can choose to let them pass and float away instead of lingering in your mind.
You have the agency to choose a different thought,
A different feeling,
A different response.
Let's take a deep breath in.
And then as you exhale,
Allow any unwelcome thoughts to float away from the blue sky of your mind.
Now,
Bring one hand to your heart.
Feel the warmth of your palm.
Feel your heartbeat beneath your palm.
See a warm golden flame glowing in the center of your heart.
This flame is your inner fire,
Your warmth,
Your truth,
Your capacity to connect with others.
With each inhale,
Feel the flame becoming brighter and steadier.
With each exhale,
Feel how the flame gives off warmth and light.
Inhaling,
The flame burns brighter and steadier.
Exhaling,
It releases warmth and light.
Inhale,
Burning brighter and steadier.
Exhale,
Releasing love,
Releasing light and warmth.
Gently,
Say inwardly to yourself,
My feelings are valid,
My perspective matters.
My voice deserves to be heard.
Allow the warmth of this flame to spread and emanate and fill all the spaces within you.
Feel this warmth rising and spreading from your heart upwards towards your collarbones,
Your shoulders,
And now your neck and your throat.
Feel this warmth softening any tension there.
Your voice is supported by your heart.
If it feels comfortable for you,
Allow a gentle sound to emerge.
This might be a soft hum,
Or maybe a quiet ah,
Or any other kind of sound or vibration that feels right for you.
Feel the sound or vibration.
Resonate in your chest,
Your throat,
Your whole body.
This sound does not need permission from anyone.
This sound and your voice is an expression of your authentic presence.
Allow the sound to continue for a few more breaths.
And now let's take a deep breath in and a long breath out.
Ask yourself gently,
What truth inside me wants to be expressed?
Perhaps it is a feeling,
Perhaps a need,
Perhaps an idea.
Allow whatever words,
Phrases,
Or sentences that are asking to be expressed to surface from inside of you.
And now let's take a deep breath in and a long breath out.
See and feel yourself speaking from this warm flame in your heart,
Calm,
Clear,
Authentic.
Notice how different it feels to speak from self-respect rather than fear.
Now notice how your body feels when the truth from within you has finally been allowed to express itself.
Your truth.
Your voice has been heard.
First,
By you.
And this is where authentic expression begins.
Now,
Place both hands over your heart.
And we'll say inwardly to yourself,
Or maybe out loud,
My voice matters.
I honor my truth.
I express myself with warmth and courage.
And if and when you are ready,
Gently and slowly,
If your eyes are closed,
Open your eyes.
Carry this inner flame with you.
Your authentic voice is not something you earn through the approval of others.
It's something you remember through self-love.
Thank you.
