Hi,
I'm Fimo,
And today,
We'll work together on the practice of equanimity,
A state of calm balance that can support us during these emotionally intense times.
Let's begin by finding a comfortable position,
A position that allows you to feel relaxed yet alert.
Whether you're sitting or lying down,
I invite you to keep your spine as straight as possible,
And to relax all the muscles in your face,
And soften your shoulders,
And allow your hands to rest on your legs or at your sides.
And if you haven't already done so,
Feel free to close your eyes,
And if that's not comfortable,
Simply lower your gaze.
Take a moment to notice what happens when you decide to turn your gaze inward and focus on your inner world.
Connect with your breath by noticing how you're breathing.
Just observe your natural breath.
Observe the air that's moving in and out of you.
Let's do some box breathing to help you get into a calm and grounded state.
So take a deep breath in,
1,
2,
3,
4,
Hold the breath,
1,
2,
3,
4,
Slowly exhale,
1,
2,
3,
4,
Hold on empty,
1,
2,
3,
4,
Deep breath in once again,
1,
2,
3,
4,
Hold,
1,
2,
3,
4,
Slowly breathe out,
1,
2,
3,
4,
Hold on empty,
1,
2,
3,
4,
Inhale deeply,
1,
2,
3,
4,
Hold,
1,
2,
3,
4,
Breathe out,
1,
2,
3,
4,
Hold on empty,
1,
2,
3,
4,
One last time,
Deep breath in,
1,
2,
3,
4,
Hold,
1,
2,
3,
4,
Exhale slowly,
1,
2,
3,
4,
And hold one last time,
1,
2,
3,
4,
Breathe in and allow your breath to return to its natural rhythm but keep your attention on each inhale and exhale.
Allow your observation of breath to keep you here in the present moment.
You won't hear my voice for the next few minutes so that you can focus all your attention on just your breathing.
Very good.
Equanimity is a mental and emotional balance that lets us stay connected to ourselves even as we experience life's highs and lows.
Equanimity is not about being unaffected by life or numbing our feelings.
Equanimity isn't about ignoring our feelings or suppressing them.
Equanimity is about maintaining a steady center that lets us experience our emotions without getting completely swept away by them.
In many ways,
Equanimity is a steady anchor within.
When emotions rise,
Equanimity allows us to feel them fully while staying grounded in our center.
I'd like you to repeat the following affirmation quietly to yourself.
I meet life with equanimity.
I meet life with equanimity.
I meet life with equanimity.
Take a few moments here to let each word settle in.
When we choose equanimity,
We're choosing to be in harmony with ourselves.
This practice allows us to meet our experiences as they come without being knocked off balance by each emotional wave.
Equanimity is not detachment.
It's a compassionate acceptance of what is without resistance or clinging.
Like the sky,
You can observe the ever-changing nature your emotions without losing your sense of self.
I invite you to come back to the affirmation.
I meet life with equanimity.
I meet life with equanimity.
Take a deep breath in and slowly breathe out.
I meet life with equanimity.
Remember that equanimity invites us to recognize the natural flow of change within us.
Sensations and emotions are temporary.
Understanding this helps us stay grounded without becoming overly attached to a villain or a sensation.
Thank you for taking this time to cultivate equanimity.
In these emotionally charged times,
I hope that you continue to grow your equanimity muscles.
The music will end shortly,
But I invite you to stay here in this space for as long as you can.
Until next time,
Take care.
