There's a great thing to ponder. Is there an area in your life where you're not living to your fullest potential? Or, there's something inside of you that wants to get out? And if that's the case, what's stopping it from coming out? What has you holding yourself back; is it money? A lot of times, for people, it's being trapped in a paycheck, you're trapped in not being able to make a decision where you experience freedom.

This is Conscious Cash and I'm your host,

Thomas DeShooter.

In this past week,

In my emotional and spiritual intelligence class and reading from the book,

Spiritual Intelligence by Cindy Wigglesworth,

I read this.

Abraham Maslow wrote in the 20th century that a musician must make music,

An artist must paint,

A poet must write,

If they are to be ultimately at peace with themselves.

What a person can be,

They must be.

Maslow saw the discovery and fulfillment of one's life purpose as not just a source of delight,

But as a need,

In the same way that hunger is a need.

He termed this the need for self-actualization,

Which refers to our desire for self-fulfillment,

Namely our tendency to become actually what we can potentially become.

To become everything one is capable of being.

And then she gave us another quote from the Gospel of Thomas that cautions us against the dangers of not fulfilling our purpose.

If you do not bring forth what is within you,

What is within you will destroy you.

In other words,

The dreams of what we might have done or should have done can sap the joy out of life and leave us filled with regrets in old age.

Well,

I don't know about you,

But as I think about it,

I see opportunities in my life that have passed by where I felt,

Oh,

I would like to do that or that's something that would be great.

I was thinking about this the other day as well,

Having been a musician that played drums.

I always wanted to somewhere inside of me to play the piano and there was a period of time where I took some lessons not that long ago,

Say five,

Six years ago.

And I think about it now,

I have a piano in the house,

I don't play it.

But I was thinking the other day,

What if I had actually just kept playing it?

Where would I be today on the scale of playing the piano?

In reality,

I'm not able to really play the piano with any degree of competency.

However,

Had I stuck with it and just banged on the keyboards,

You know,

Two to three times a week for the last five years,

There's a very good chance that I might be able to put a song or two together.

And how great would that feel to be able to do that now?

And then I have the question,

Well,

Maybe that really wasn't that important to me if I hadn't done it.

Will there be a point in my life where I regret not having pursued that?

Don't know.

Doesn't feel like there will be.

However,

The exercise is more about asking that question.

That if I don't bring forth what is within me,

What is within me will destroy me.

I guess in a way that's kind of why I do this podcast.

That's kind of why I do the Bloom Living podcast.

Is there something within me that feels a need to do this?

And so I do it.

And I love it.

I enjoy it.

It's great.

But where is that,

You know,

If you were to take that to your own life and ask that question,

There's a great thing to ponder.

Is there an area in your life where you're not living to your fullest potential,

That there's something inside of you that wants to get out?

And if that's the case,

What's stopping it from coming out?

What has you holding yourself back?

Is it money?

A lot of times for people it's,

You know,

Trapped in a paycheck.

It's trapped in not being able to make a decision where you feel freedom.

You know,

Cindy also writes in her book,

A person's true delight is to do the things they were made for.

That true delight is what I call my joy paycheck.

And it's as important,

If not more so,

Than the cash paycheck I get each month.

If I'm earning my cash paycheck,

But I am impoverished when it comes to joy,

I'm not living a spiritually intelligent life.

And yeah,

Like,

Are you doing something that is sucking the life out of you?

I think this is a great opportunity for me to talk about my five money principles and how they relate to conscious cash.

So number one is to know what is so,

Is to know where you are,

To take a snapshot of,

You know,

What do I own and what do I owe?

And is that something I want to shift after?

Do I want to owe more money or do I want to own more things?

I don't mean consumerism things.

I mean own things that add value,

That allow you to do more of the things that you love to do in the world.

That's how I would look at that.

Do I own things that push forward the things that are important to me,

That allow me to do what's really important?

And what,

If you bring it back to the joy paycheck,

That allow me to fill my life with more joy.

And where I would go with that is also joy in others lives.

And what I,

Is what I'm doing providing more joy in the life of others.

And I really think if I nail that,

So if I can really nail that down,

Joy in others lives,

I'm pretty certain the joy will show up in my life.

And I think it's also a fine line between,

You know,

Not honoring yourself and doing too much for others.

It's not about doing too much for others.

It's about bringing joy into the lives of others,

Being of service and finding that thing about you that lights you up to be of service.

And then it's,

You know,

It's reciprocal.

Joy out there,

Joy coming in,

Back and forth.

And knowing what is so,

Where you are exactly,

Allows you maybe a basis to begin that process.

Number two is money mirrors you.

A couple of things here,

There's your conversation around money.

And what does that look like?

Are you living in a lack or a limiting consciousness?

Or are you living in an abundant mindset around money?

And one of the things that I've done is I've changed the name of the accounts at the bank where my money goes.

I don't call them bank accounts.

I call them money accounts.

And more specifically,

I refer to them as my money accounts.

As the bank doesn't own them.

They're my money accounts,

Not the bank's.

So it's little things like that where we can start to line up and show a new way of,

A new appreciation for money and a new conversation with money.

So money begins to mirror us in the way that we want it to mirror us.

Not the way it is mirroring us when we have a lack consciousness or an anger or hatred towards money.

Also money mirrors you is about values and what is important to you.

What values do you hold true?

You know,

It's one thing for me to say to people,

Hey,

I believe in organic farming and I believe in local farming and supporting local farmers.

And then they come to my house and they see that everything I have and everything I buy is actually not that.

It's the exact opposite of that.

Well then,

I could honestly say my values are not being supported by my actions.

So money is a great denominator of your values.

It can really make a difference in the world and I would argue that the biggest difference that we can make in the world is with our money.

Where do we spend our money?

What do we spend our money on?

That is the biggest difference maker.

It's actually voting with your dollars that you can have the biggest impact in the world.

Part of knowing what is so is then leading into the money mirrors you and the values conversation and really understanding those two pieces.

Focus fuels finance.

Number three,

Having a focus on your finances and understanding them.

And you don't need to become an accountant.

You don't need to become the smartest investor in the world.

You don't need to become Warren Buffet and understand how to assess a company and tear it all down.

It's about focusing on what is happening in your financial life.

The flow of money,

The in and out of the money in your personal economy.

Focusing on that,

Understanding it,

Making sure you're crystal clear on why you're spending money on something,

Why you're not spending money on something and how the amount of money is flowing in and out.

That's what focus is.

Because when you focus on that you begin to understand,

Ah,

When I do this,

This is what happens then.

If I want to increase my income,

How can I increase my income?

If I'm in a day job and I've already tapped out the highest I can reach in that job,

Is there an opportunity for me to do something else,

To move into a different direction where I can earn more money?

Or do I need to be taking money that I'm earning and putting it into areas that will increase my cash flow because those things will begin to deliver money to my money accounts.

Fourth,

Cash flow is king.

Let me say that again.

Cash flow is king.

I learned this a hard way.

When I was a teenager,

My parents lost their business and had to declare bankruptcy.

Why?

Because they didn't have the cash flow to pay their bills.

And that's what happens when you don't have the cash flow to pay your bills.

The creditors,

If you have creditors,

If you have people you owe money to,

Banks,

Finance houses,

Et cetera,

They would come for their money and you don't have it,

Then you either have to sell your assets,

Give up your assets,

Or you need to go into bankruptcy protection.

And,

You know,

So I experienced that when I was a teenager.

That wasn't a lot of fun and I didn't really understand it at the time either.

And I can't imagine what my parents must have thought about that.

That must have been a traumatic experience for them,

Raising kids and going through that.

And sometimes that happens in life.

You pursue a dream,

You go out to become a business owner,

You do everything that you think is the right thing to do and circumstances work against you,

And unfortunately stuff like that happens.

So I learned that cash flow is king.

And another way that came up was I was sitting on a board of directors and the accountant on the board,

He was actually the chair at the time,

I had made the comment that you'll never go broke making a profit.

And he said,

Well,

Actually that's not true because if you're,

You know,

You might have a profitable business,

But if people aren't paying you on time and you don't have good cash flow and you can't pay your creditors,

They might call the loan and then you're in trouble,

Right?

So you can go broke even if you're making a profit.

Why?

Because cash flow is king.

So understanding the flow of money in and out of your personal economy and making sure that you have the cash flow you need to satisfy everything that's coming up is critical.

And lastly,

You are your most valuable asset.

You are your most valuable asset.

What kind of time are you willing to put in to improve your understanding of yourself,

To improve how you show up in the world,

To improve the way you react to things,

All of that stuff,

To build your education,

To figure out,

Hey,

If I want to create more of this in my life,

What are the steps I need to do?

Are there some books I need to read?

Are there audio tapes?

Are there podcasts I need to listen to?

How can I grow myself so that I can achieve all the things that I want to achieve?

There's a couple of quotes that I think line up perfectly for this conversation,

And Cindy shared them in her book,

Aristotle Advised.

Know who you are today and you can choose to work on who you want to become tomorrow.

Seneca said,

If you do not know which port you are sailing to,

Then any wind will do.

And Marcus Aurelius,

Who was the second century Roman emperor philosopher,

Declared,

Everything,

A horse,

A vine,

Is created for some duty.

For what task then were you yourself created?

Hmm.

Good question to leave episode six on.

What task were you created for?

Oh my gosh,

I'm so glad you found time to be part of today's show.

Pleasantly surprised to hear quotes from some great stoics such as Seneca and Marcus Aurelius. I really enjoyed the live talk this morning which brought me here. Thank you for your inspirational talk 🌿

006: Conscious Cache - Fuve Abundance Principals. Great talk. I would like to note however that the music overlay at the beginning while you were reading the quotes was way too loud and I found it difficult to separate what you were saying from the music tones which made it more difficult to really 'hear'. I almost shut the talk down. The ability to focus on competing sounds gets more difficult as you age. This comment is meant as some constructive criticism which I hope may have some value in making your presentation even better.

There’s a real clarity here. The music is quite loud in the intro but it fades so don’t let that turn you away. I enjoyed the points made and will listen to this again and investigate his other talks.
