In today's JoyWork,
I will share with you my seven principles for prosperous creating.
In response to each one,
You'll have a chance to journal so you can reflect upon and begin to integrate each principle into your life and your work for yourself.
So go ahead and have your journal nearby.
Number one,
Realize when you're feeling something.
This may seem counterintuitive,
But actually when you are feeling something but not admitting it,
There's often a great deal of energy that you are spending in trying to deny it.
This drain of energy can keep you from creating.
So when you are anxious about the deadline or frustrated with those latest revisions or sad about a bad review,
Admit it to yourself.
Notice how this frees you.
So let's journal for two minutes.
What are you feeling right now?
Let yourself admit your feelings and put them on the page.
That's fair.
And I'dfore like last longer it is because you are making the decision to restart the emotional loop.
Let the emotion move through you,
Wash over you,
And let it go.
Feel how easy this is to do.
I know you don't believe me so we're gonna try it together now.
Think of a feeling,
Maybe one that you wrote about just now,
And allow yourself to feel it fully for 90 seconds.
I'll time us.
I want you to really feel what 90 seconds of committed feeling is like.
Begin.
You you you That's it.
That's 90 seconds.
Now journal for 30 seconds.
What was it like to face this feeling for a full 90 seconds and let its wave crest and fall.
Very good.
Finish the phrase you're writing now.
Principle 3.
Love yourself for who you are.
No one else has your gifts and talents.
No one else writes or teaches or creates quite like you.
Enjoy your uniqueness.
Work from the special perspective that only you can bring.
We'll journal now for one minute.
List the ways that you are unique.
You good finish the phrase that you're writing now.
Principle 4.
Know that writing is your friend and stay kind to it.
Sometimes we make writing our enemy.
It's not.
When you stop resisting it and allow it to flow through you,
It brings such joy and purpose that you know deep down that this is a companion and a gift and a friend on your journey.
Treat it as such.
What I'd like you to do now is to write a love letter to writing in your journal.
Begin.
You you you you Very good.
Finish your love letter.
Principle 5.
Balance the right and left brains.
If you've been dealing with numbers,
Do some painting.
If you've just written a poem,
Put together a bookshelf.
Avoid the rut of what you usually do and ignite your creativity by trying something different on a regular basis.
We'll journal now for just 30 seconds.
Write down one thing you will do this week that is different than something you normally do that will bring about balance in your life.
Good.
Principle 6.
Do what makes yourself proud.
Don't write what you think others want you to write.
You actually have incredible freedom in your creative life.
Let your next project be something that lights you up.
Let yourself do what you really want to do and take pride in it.
Let's journal for one minute in response to this phrase.
I really want to write.
You Good.
Finish the phrase you're writing now.
And the last principle is be accountable to your gifts.
When you tell a friend you'll meet her for lunch,
You show up.
When you have to teach a class,
You prepare your lesson.
You can do the same for your creative gifts.
Make an appointment and show up.
Be prepared.
Be present and see what presents the creative gift will give to you.
Let's journal now just another short 30 seconds.
When will you write this week?
Write down the days and times and then transfer them to your calendar so that you can be accountable to your gifts.
Very good.
You can put your journal to the side and I'll just read through the seven principles one more time.
Be accountable to your gifts.
