Let's do a self-exploration meditation on Sargadatta Maharaj's book,

I AM THAT,

Chapter number 2,

OBSESSION WITH THE BODY.

Let's close our eyes and sit comfortably.

Let's take our attention to the breath.

The breath is naturally moving in and naturally moving out.

Simply observe what is happening naturally.

Simply be a witness to that which is happening automatically.

I can perceive the breath.

This means that I am not the breath.

How can I be that which I can perceive?

I am definitely separate from that which I can perceive.

I am the perceiver.

The breath is the perceived.

This means I am not the breath.

Let's take our attention to the sensation of the body sitting on the chair.

Let's become attentive to the feeling of solidity,

The heaviness of the body.

Let's become attentive to the touch of the skin on the chair.

Let's become aware of any discomfort,

If at all,

In the body.

Let's become aware of any sensations in the body.

Tingling,

Numbness,

Sweat,

Coolness,

Warmth,

Itching,

Pulse beating,

Heart beating,

Stomach grumbling,

Any,

Any sensations in the body.

Let's become aware of them.

I can perceive the body.

I am the perceiver and the body is the perceived.

I am definitely separate from the body.

How can I be that which I can perceive?

I am not the body.

Let us become aware of the thoughts arising and falling.

Bothersome thoughts and not so bothersome thoughts.

Arise,

Play and dissolve.

Thoughts are separate from me.

I can perceive the thoughts.

I am the perceiver and thoughts are the perceived object.

How can I be that which I can perceive?

I am not the thoughts.

In short,

I am not the mind.

Let's take our attention to any feelings.

Pleasant feeling or unpleasant feeling,

Happy feeling or sad feeling or a neutral feeling.

I can recognize these feelings as separate from me.

I can perceive the feelings.

I am the perceiver and the feeling is the perceived object.

How can I the perceiver be the perceived?

How can I be happy or sad?

How can I be pleasant or unpleasant?

I am separate from feelings.

I am not the feelings.

In short,

I am not the mind.

When I know what I am not,

What I am reveals itself.

I am not the breath,

Not the body,

Not the thoughts,

Not the feelings.

Then what am I?

Who am I?

I am that which knows the breath.

I am that which knows the body.

I am that which knows the mind.

But what am I?

Can I truthfully say what or who am I?

Let me follow the I.

When I follow the sense of I am,

It dissolves into a changeless background.

The I disappears.

The I is nowhere to be found.

Nothing that can be pointed at can be myself.

There is an absolute nothingness.

All definitions of I apply only to the body-mind.

That is the obsession with the body-mind.

The definition of I.

At this level of nothingness,

There is no I to be found.

There is no more a need to verbalize what I am.

This state of nothingness is my natural,

Spontaneous and effortless state.

Let me repose in this natural state,

Daily and hourly,

By rejecting and refusing what I am not.

When I know what I am not,

What I am reveals itself.
