I invite you,
If you're in the right place to do so,
To let your eyes close,
To begin the process of slowing down and settling in to the place and time in which you find yourself during this meditation.
You can do this meditation in any position,
But doing it at some degree of stillness will probably work best.
Take note of your breath,
Where it starts at this very moment.
Is it shallow?
Reserved?
Expansive?
We're not trying to change it,
At least not yet,
But just taking stock without judgment and with a generous awareness about ourselves.
Do you experience any stiffness or even soreness in your body?
Begin guiding your breath into those places of tension.
With that generous awareness,
Take stock of your emotional state.
When this meditation began,
Were you agitated?
Excited?
High energy?
Low energy?
Loving?
Sad?
Accept whatever emotional state you're in right now,
Without judgment or any finality.
Emotions pass by like clouds,
Sometimes return.
That's good.
Start extending your breath,
Deeply in and slowly out.
Can you make your inhale deeper and your exhale slower?
Giving your breath to support your body,
Mind and spirit.
Can you extend your inhale to its deepest comfortable place and your exhale to its slowest comfortable pace?
Find yourself there,
In and out.
With your breathing at its most expansive,
Allow your body to be heavy,
No longer resisting gravity,
But settling down,
Experiencing your weight.
Find the part of your body that you experience as the most heavy.
Maybe it's your tailbone,
Your heels,
Your shoulders,
Your skull.
Enjoy the heaviness of your body as you continue to breathe and take stock of the part that is the deepest,
The weightiest,
Settling in.
From that heaviness,
Imagine tender roots growing out into the place you find yourself,
Connecting you with this space.
As the roots draw down for nourishment and strength,
Imagine your spirit sprouting out and up,
Extending.
Continuing to breathe to support those roots and sprouts.
And from the place of heaviness,
Imagine the roots growing outward and deeper in an expanding circle.
And in the place of lightness and serenity,
Watch the sprouts growing taller,
More sturdy and stable as your spirit reaches upward.
And you continue to breathe.
And in the serenity of your breathing,
One more time,
Allow those roots to expand out and deep and wide in an opening circle.
And from that connection,
Allow your precious bud to open,
Unfurl and bloom with your spirit.
Continuing to breathe.
As you expand down and rise up,
Flourishing in serenity.
Use and flowing in the lightness of your spirit.
Blessings.
