
Meridian Meditation: Heart & Small Intestine For Overwhelm
The aim of this meditation is to bring balance to the flow of energy through the Heart & Small Intestine meridian lines. Bought out of balance from an excess of emotion - overwhelm, anxiety, over joy, confusion and more. Using philosophy from TCM and Neuro-Emotional Techniques, restoring balance brings peace and calm amongst life's natural ups and downs.
Transcript
The intention of this meditation is to bring balance to the energy that flows through our heart and small intestine meridian lights.
Take a moment to settle into your body,
Making yourself comfortable and consciously releasing any tension that you may be holding on to.
Feeling easy through the face,
The shoulders,
Allowing your chest to feel open as you take a nice deep breath in and a long slow exhale.
Closing down the eyes and just listen to what is going on around you.
What sounds can you hear surrounding you now?
Maybe birds,
Maybe cars,
Maybe even people in the distance.
Allow your attention to go inwards now.
Can you listen to the sound of your breath?
Can you sense or even hear your heartbeat?
Our heart is there,
Always rhythmically beating.
It will rapidly respond to the outside environment.
Faster as we get a little bit scared or excited and then as we calm down it slows back to its nice easy consistent pace.
Your heart may be able to tell you if you're under stress even if your conscious mind is trying to deny it.
Can you imagine now with the next inhale that the breath moves down into that heart space?
Swirling around it's then released with the exhale.
Next inhale travels down and around into the heart space and exhale to release.
Continue to breathe like this.
Noticing how the breath feels as it moves in around and out of the heart space.
The lightness of the air,
The freshness and aliveness that it brings.
Swirling through the heart space each time feeling like the energy is moving a little bit more.
Removing any feelings of stale or blocked energy in this space.
Inhaling and exhaling.
Feeling the fresh energy circle within as the heavy energy leaves.
The next inhale that lightness stays within the heart center even as you exhale.
Feel into it now swirling there in the heart space.
Maybe you can even see the color of it.
It feels alive but not too much for you.
Just a perfect sense of your energy at balance within.
With the next exhale watch or feel this energy travel down your left armpit and continue to go down the heart meridian line.
Traveling down the inside of the bicep,
Over the inside of the elbow,
All the way down the forearm,
Down to the little finger.
As this energy reaches the end of the heart line meridian it begins to move up the small intestine.
Tingling as it moves up this yang meridian line,
Up the back of the little finger,
Over the back of the forearm,
Returning up over the elbow,
Towards the back of the shoulder.
You can see it,
Feel it,
Watch it move over the shoulder blade and traveling with ease up the neck all the way towards the left cheek.
It finishes its path right in front of the left ear bringing lightness as it moves along this small intestine meridian line.
The next inhale this light travels down back down into the heart space and spends a moment swirling there.
Feeling alive,
Feeling free.
With the next exhale this energy begins its path down the right heart meridian line,
Through the right armpit,
Down the inside of the right bicep,
All the way down to the right little finger.
It moves nice and carefully,
A tingling,
An excitement but also peace.
The energy flows just as easily back up the small intestine meridian line,
Up that right little finger,
Over the back of the hand,
Towards the right elbow,
Traveling all the way up over the right shoulder blade.
Carefully you feel it,
You watch it,
You see it,
Moving up the right neck all the way to the right cheek.
It finishes its path just in front of the right ear and with your next inhale you feel it return back to your heart space,
Swirling in this wonderful heart energy,
Almost like it's laughing and dancing.
It begins to move again down the left heart meridian line,
Continuing around this circuit.
Can you feel the peace that it brings?
Can you feel the ease as this energy is traveling through these meridian lines?
There is no need to worry if the light starts to feel a bit stuck or it does not flow as easily.
You notice that that energy is still always moving,
Even slowly.
With that patience,
With your awareness,
You see as it starts to free up.
Maybe it even moves around,
Dancing with your heartbeat,
Rhythmic,
Steady,
Bringing life.
Our heart brings yang energy to our mind and to our body.
Sometimes if this energy isn't balanced,
Life can feel overwhelming,
Chaotic or unsettled.
The joy that we crave feels too much or we may begin to lose our way.
When life seems overwhelming,
We realize our vulnerabilities.
But balance within this energy helps our internal discernment.
We can see a situation clearly.
We can find the joy in everything without fear.
We know that we can always find places of safety,
Of peace and of calm within.
Finishing off your current cycle,
Allowing the energy to finish from the small intestine meridian line back within the heart space.
Being aware now of an area in your body where the energy did not flow as easily,
Maybe that was somewhere along the meridian lines or possibly any area in your body that still feels heavy or tense.
Contact this area now,
Bringing one hand to it if possible and bringing the other hand to your forehead.
Just as you watched your breath fill the heart space,
Watch now as the breath flows into this area of heaviness.
It clears any tension.
Every exhale helping things to flow,
To return to balance.
Every exhale I release,
Bringing just that little bit more ease.
Nothing feeling too tingly,
Too excited,
Nothing feeling too dark or heavy.
You find that perfect balance within and releasing your hands as you feel this balance settle in.
As you release the hands,
Use your right hand to contact the pulse points on your left wrist.
Notice the pulse point that is closest to your thumb,
The pulse that connects your heart and small intestine meridian lines.
Now bring your mind to your intention for balance.
Any situation where you know your emotional energy needs more balance,
A situation of overwhelm,
Of feeling lost,
An area that you feel vulnerable,
Confused or even abandoned.
Wherever that emotion has become excess too much to deal with,
An area that you would like some clarity or some peaceful joy.
Whatever your intention is,
Bring this to your awareness and watch the sensations and thoughts that arise.
Then still contacting your pulse points,
Bringing that left hand up to your forehead.
Just as easily as these sensations arise,
Just as easily as these thoughts flow into your mind.
You may follow some stories from them but then allow them to leave.
Know they are just thoughts,
They are not a part of you.
It is just your body reacting.
It is temporary and will release.
You are safe here as these sensations arise.
Safe to watch what they begin to tell you.
Safe to let them go.
See now as the charge around these emotions begins to fade.
Allow your body to rebalance.
Allow the new energy to flow.
You can feel the life it brings,
The love it brings,
The ease that it brings to every single cell.
When you feel that your body has returned to balance,
Then releasing the hands and placing them over your heart.
Watch again the breath move in and out of this heart space.
Maybe your heartbeat is settled.
Maybe it is spreading a sense of joy or aliveness through the cells.
Whatever is going on for you at this moment,
Lean into that space between the beats.
Lean into that space between the inhale and the exhale.
Leaning into your heart space knowing that it is a place of peace.
You can stay here for as long as you need,
Connecting to this sense within.
Otherwise,
Releasing the hands and starting to notice the world around you.
Send your awareness outwards.
Move your body nice and gently.
When you feel ready,
Opening your eyes,
Noticing what is going on for you right now in this moment and returning back to your day.
