Namaste.
Welcome to this meditation session with me,
Dhyansay,
Your path to inner peace,
Wisdom and awareness.
We are meditating on Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.
We don't know who we are.
We don't know where we came from.
We don't know where we are going.
Yet,
We continue.
Along the way,
We build convenient ideas,
Concepts,
Theories about who we are.
We give ourselves a name.
We give ourselves something to be busy with,
Some occupation.
We give ourselves ideas,
Interests,
And that's how we continue.
That's how we live.
That's how we distract ourselves all throughout our life.
Distract from this fundamental question that we all come along with.
Who we are.
Where we come from.
Where we are going.
Nobody knows.
Since nobody knows,
It is convenient to give ourselves something to believe,
Some theory,
Some concept,
Some idea to hang on to.
Yoga meditation.
These paths are not for theories,
Ideas,
Beliefs.
These are for you to have the courage to see that you don't know who you are.
To see that you don't know where you came from.
To see that you don't know where you are going.
Only then,
There is a possibility to know who you are.
To know where you are coming from.
To know where you can go,
Where you are going.
So this path of yoga and meditation,
It starts with confronting the truth first.
It does not lead to the truth by believing in some lies.
It takes you to the truth from the truth.
The starting point is the truth,
The end is the truth.
So,
If you want to be on the path of yoga,
If you want to be on the path of meditation,
You have to drop the lies.
You have to be truthful to yourself.
You have to give yourself that space,
That luxury in life,
To be truthful to existence,
To be truthful to yourself and to come to a point where you see that all what you have given to yourself,
All what you have acquired from this world,
The name,
The description,
The occupation,
The interests,
The connections,
The family,
The friends,
The ideas,
The thoughts,
Everything that you carry,
It is not enough to answer.
It is not enough to justify this chance of life.
It is not enough to become the fulfillment of life.
The contentment,
The fulfillment,
The peace of life only happens when you start with the truth.
Only happens when you are on the path of the truth.
On the path of lies,
There is much pleasure as well.
No denying that fact as well that on the path of lies,
There is also much fun,
Much to gain,
Much to enjoy,
But that is momentary.
If you haven't had that yet,
Go on the path of lies,
Enjoy the lies until you are done with the lies.
Only when you are done with the lies,
Then you can appreciate the truth.
Because if you have not yet enjoyed fully the lies and if you are given the choice between the truth and the lie,
You will choose the lie.
Truth has no taste.
If you will pick up the truth,
You will want something out of the truth that it cannot serve.
What lies can serve,
Truth cannot serve.
What truth can serve,
Lies can never serve.
So,
You have to first of all go and be done with the lies.
Once you are done with the lies,
Come to yoga,
Come to meditation to appreciate the truth,
To be finally back on track.
On the lie,
You can go astray,
You can go wherever you want in life.
You can take all the ups and downs,
You can enjoy that,
But you have to come back to the path of truth.
So,
If you are ready to be on the path of truth,
Come to yoga,
Come to meditation,
Learn to become silent,
Learn to turn inwards.
There are lots of masters out there who have helped us throughout this journey across different centuries,
Across different times,
Different civilizations who have dedicated their entire life to helping people like us who are on the path of truth to go one step further.
To not get caught up once again with the lies and to remain moving forward on the path of truth.
This teaching,
This movement on the path of truth is unconventional.
It is immeasurable.
It is something that you cannot map out in the current understanding that you carry in your mind.
So,
You cannot even judge it.
You cannot judge it,
You cannot measure it.
You have to do.
You are also not supposed to believe in it.
Then how do you go on the path of truth?
If you cannot measure it,
If you cannot judge it,
If you cannot be convinced about it,
If you cannot even believe it,
Then how do you go on the path of truth?
You have to be done with the lies.
You have to see naturally.
You have to come in your own life's experience to this point where you see nothing else is serving you.
You are on that edge where you have to take a jump into the truth.
You have to take a jump into the unknown.
Unknown not in belief.
Jumping into the unknown not in convincing yourself firstly about the unknown.
Jumping into the unknown not before rationalizing about jumping into the unknown.
You have to have that beating in your heart.
That sensation in your spirit that you know that you have to take a plunge.
You have to jump into the truth into the unknown.
Then begins meditation.
Then begins yoga.
And if you are already on the path,
Only then is the progress.
Otherwise,
It all lies even on this path of spirituality.
There are enough lies to get caught into.
Patanjali on this path right now is telling us about powers.
He is telling us about the Bhutis that come along on the path of yoga.
Not to tell us that now go and grab these powers but rather to say that when you come across these powers,
Don't be surprised.
Be clear about your true nature.
See that as a human being.
See that what you have is very very powerful if you train it in a certain way.
So,
He keeps you on the track of truth.
He always tells you to drop every power,
To drop every ambition,
Every ego of grabbing this or grabbing that.
And continue silently aware on this path of truth.
But along the way,
When you will see right,
When you will see left,
You will see very exciting things.
And in this Vibhuti Padma,
He is talking about all these exciting fancy possibilities that come along with yoga.
Which along the history,
Many yogis have fallen into the trap of.
Many yogis have caught up in those abilities.
They have become the magicians of this world.
They have become the tricksters of this world.
They have become the entertainers of this world.
They have become the solution providers to problems of this world.
But yoga and meditation is not looking for providing a solution to a problem.
It takes you away from the whole world of problems and solutions on the path of truth.
There is no problem.
There is no solution.
Let us hear what Patanjali has to say for today before we sit in silence,
Before we sit in meditation.
He says,
By direct perception through Samyama on one's mental impressions,
Knowledge of past birth is obtained.
We don't know where we are coming from.
How to know?
If you use your awareness,
If you use the ability of your awareness to do the Samyama on past impressions,
On one's mental impressions,
The impressions that are in yoga,
What we call as Chitta.
The repository that we have in us,
The bank of memory that we have in us,
Which contains all the impressions.
If you have the luxury,
The time,
The motivation to bring your awareness on all these subconscious,
Unconscious impressions that you carry in yourself,
That storehouse.
If you go into the cellar of your being,
You will find clues to the past.
You will find not only clues to the past within this life,
You will find clues to the past of your previous lives.
Once again,
When Patanjali says previous lives,
He is not asking you to believe previous lives.
What he is saying is when you come across these impressions,
You see that there is a certain continuity.
All what you have gathered in your cellar,
In your mental cellar,
In your subconscious,
In your unconscious,
A lot of it is from this life.
A lot of that junk is from this life,
But a lot of it is also not from this life.
How do you validate that?
Only when you take a look at that junk.
Only when you come across those impressions,
You will see that it just cannot be that you have taken those impressions from this life.
So where are they coming from?
Where is this junk belonging to?
To which time?
To which person?
And if you go on that exploration,
If you are having the motivation to do that,
You will realize that this is coming from somewhere even further past and there is a continuity which you are carrying.
There is something new about this life,
But there is something old also about you,
Very old,
Hundreds of years old,
Thousands of years old,
Millions of years old about you even right now.
So if you are interested in that,
If you want to explore that,
Follow what Patanjali has to say on this sutra,
Otherwise move on in this journey towards silent awareness,
Towards truth.
Then he talks about the Samyama on the mind which I will elaborate tomorrow.
For now,
Let us sit in silence.
Let us sit in meditation.
Please close your eyes.
Take a posture that allows you to be at rest.
It doesn't call your attention and awareness at a particular body part.
It can be a practiced cross-legged posture or simply sitting on a chair,
On a couch,
Where you are used to sitting comfortably.
These moments are the moments to drop your body.
To drop your mind.
To drop all the lies.
These moments are safe.
You are not going to lose anything by dropping the lies.
Let go of all those thoughts that you are carrying as the treasure,
As the valuable,
As if you drop them,
Something big is going to be missing in life.
Let them go.
If they come back,
If they are valuable,
You can come back to them later.
They will come back to you later.
For now,
For these few moments,
Let your body,
Let your mind settle.
Giving you and your awareness space to see the truth.
Beginning by dropping the lies.
Beginning by resting the body.
By resting the mind.
By resting the breath.
All what you are carrying on your mind,
Any thought,
Any idea,
Any concept,
Anything that is going on in your mind is a lie.
It has no value in your life.
Put that aside for a while.
You are not going to lose anything by dropping the lies.
You are not going to lose anything by dropping the lies.
You are not going to lose anything by dropping the lies.
Let your awareness be empty first and discover,
Find,
Reach to the truth by itself.
For a while,
You remain silent.
You remain empty of lies.
You remain silent.
You remain silent.
Nothing that arises in your awareness is worth holding on to.
It's all lies.
You are not going to lose anything by dropping the lies.
You are not going to lose anything by dropping the lies.
Let go of your body.
Let go of your mind.
Let go of everything that you could grasp.
Let go of that.
Let go of everything that you could grasp.
Let go of everything that you could grasp.
Let go of everything that you could grasp.
Let go of everything that you could grasp.
Drop the inner chatter.
The language.
The expression.
In stillness.
In silence.
In awareness is the truth.
Let go of everything that you could grasp.
Let go of everything that you could grasp.
Let go of everything that you could grasp.
Let go of everything that you could grasp.
Let go of everything that you could grasp.
Let go of everything that you could grasp.
Let go of everything that you could grasp.
Let go of everything that you could grasp.
Far away from the lies.
Far away from any impressions.
Any expressions.
In silence.
In awareness.
In silence.
In silence.
In silence.
In silence.
From here on,
Stay like this in this space as long as you can.
Until all lies disappear.
And you are in truth forever.
I will see you tomorrow.
Namaste.

Great discourse and practice! Super informing and interesting. Makes me want to know myself better. It reminded me of clearing an attic. Most of the junk is mine, but occasionally I find stuff that used to belong to the previous owner and they left it there. I guess in this way, the "previous owner" represents our "previous life." And of course, not all the stuff is junk. Some stuff is valuable (the truth) and the junk is the lies we have held onto. They are illusions, blankets of comfort. Sometimes we hoard things because it is comfortable and easier. Or maybe there is fear of letting go, perhaps regret as well. Keep doing these meditations!
