Hey y'all,
Welcome to Meditations with Desi and I am so excited to bring y'all this meditation.
I don't know what this week has been like for y'all but for me I have just felt kind of all over the place,
A little wiry,
You know I've caught myself being frustrated with folks when I shouldn't,
Getting attitudes with folks when I shouldn't.
I've noticed other people getting attitudes with me when they shouldn't and I've just noticed like in general the energy has just been all over the place and I know that there were times when anxiety popped up for me and I didn't quite feel safe in my body and I had to remind myself like you're safe,
Whatever is making you anxious right now cannot harm you in this exact moment and I just held onto that a lot this week so I don't know if you all are feeling it but in case you are I wanted to offer this You Are Safe guided meditation slash affirmation.
I say sash affirmation because I wanted this to be functional in the way that you all can play it while you're going about your day,
While you're driving or whatever so you don't have to be seated for this meditation.
I actually encourage you to get out for a walk if you can while you listen to this but if not just find somewhere where you're comfortable,
Where you're safe and you can relax.
So without further ado let us begin and pour into ourselves.
Find somewhere where you feel comfortable and safe and I want you to focus on your breath.
I'm not going to ask you to take any particularly deep breaths during this meditation but I just want you to be mindful of how you're breathing.
Make sure that you're breathing into your abdomen and not your chest so when you're breathing you should see your belly rise or expand depending on if you're sitting,
Walking or standing but basically your chest shouldn't be like puffing up when you're breathing your stomach should be expanding so make sure you're giving yourself those really full breaths during this.
And just to start let's take a real deep inhale together for five seconds one,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five,
Hold for one,
Two,
Three and release it all.
That is the only deep breath we're going to do.
I just wanted to shake some of that tension up out of y'all but breathe normally as you would but I want you in this moment to remember that you are safe,
That you can trust yourself,
Despite the fact that you have been conditioned not to.
You have been conditioned to doubt your judgment at every turn.
You have been conditioned to second guess yourself.
You've been conditioned to doubt your culture,
To doubt your community,
To doubt those closest to you and put your faith into things that won't sustain you.
You have been sold a lie that in order to be valuable,
In order to be important that you have to be producing something,
That you have to be helping someone,
That you have to be changing the world,
All you have to do to deserve love in this life is be yourself.
You are divinely created.
You are God inspired.
You are holy.
You have access to God's beauty because you are God's beauty.
You are God's abundance.
You are your ancestors dreams.
You can trust your intuition.
Your inner voice will guide you the more you listen to it.
Your inner voice will get louder the more you shut the world out.
You are safe.
Your body is not your prison.
It is your sacred temple.
Your body is not a mistake.
It is beautifully and wonderfully made.
There is nothing inherently wrong with you.
Who you are,
What you like,
What you don't like,
The things that you enjoy eating,
The things that you enjoy watching,
They all make you who you are.
They all make up your wonderful,
Beautiful personality and everyone around you benefits when you are living truthfully and authentically in that personality.
Everyone around you will benefit when you make yourself your ministry.
You are safe.
You are covered in God's divine light,
Protected under God's holy wing and guided by your ancestors sweet voice.
Everything that you need from you,
You can give yourself.
We are not meant to survive in isolation.
We are meant to be a part of communities that love and support us and sometimes when they don't,
It makes us doubt ourselves.
It makes us feel unsafe in our bodies,
In our homes,
In our jobs,
In our communities,
In our relationships.
It can make us feel disconnected from everything around us and everything that we ever knew.
And after being disconnected so long,
It is so easy to identify everything and anything around you as the things that made you unsafe.
It's easy to identify these things within yourself,
To internalize the way that people have treated you,
To internalize the way that people have spoken about you.
In this moment,
You are safe from those people.
They are not here.
It is just you and I.
Their voices do not matter.
Your voice is all that matters in this moment.
Even if that voice is quiet or even if it's not even speaking but you know it's there,
It is safe to follow that voice.
You are the apple of the Creator's eye.
You can trust yourself because you are not the oppressive conditions you live in.
You are not your worst moment.
You are not the moment you did not speak up for yourself.
You're not the moment when you said the wrong thing.
You're not the moment when you had your heart broken.
You are more than your pain.
You can survive this and everything else you're facing.
Just like you have everything else.
You have the knowledge you need to face this trial and the next one.
You can trust yourself.
You are safe.
You get to fall apart every now and then.
You get to throw a fit.
You get to be human.
There is safety in allowing yourself to be human and allowing yourself to experience the full range of your emotions no matter what they may be.
If it is grief,
You can find safety in your grief,
If it is anger,
You can find safety in your anger.
Whatever it may be,
You deserve to allow yourself to really feel it in that moment so you can move on from it.
And if it comes back up,
It comes back up.
But there is safety in allowing yourself to be as who you are.
Instead of trying to be happy for this person,
Enthusiastic,
Charismatic,
Whatever the expectations of people are putting on you,
All you have to be is yourself.
And that is more than enough.
That is more than enough to survive.
That is more than enough to be creative.
That is more than enough to dream,
To imagine,
To visualize.
There is an unlimited amount of creative energy available to you.
There is an abundance of ideas,
Of theory,
Whatever it may be that you are desiring,
It is available to you.
As we get ready to close out this affirmation session,
I just ask that you take a moment and think about one area of your life where you have felt unsafe.
In yourself,
Where can you affirm that you are safe?
Whether it's in your emotions,
With a particular friend,
With a particular group of people,
I want you to take a second and think about the places that encourage your safety.
The places and the people that encourage your safety.
If you have somebody in mind,
What would they say to you in this moment to make you feel safe?
What would they say?
What feelings would this place bring to make you feel safe?
Hold on to that today and the rest of this week as you navigate all of the mess happening in the news,
All of the mess happening in our personal lives,
In our professional lives,
Whatever it may be.
You can come back to this and have a moment of safety.
I know all of our conditions don't allow for us to be safe at every moment.
I know some of us can live in unsafe and uncertain conditions and I am not oblivious to that.
I think the biggest thing for me with these types of meditations is providing a moment of mental clarity because sometimes all it takes is a moment.
Sometimes all you need is a second to get up,
Dust yourself off and get your shit together.
I hope that you got your moment and I hope that you got what you need.
Thank you for listening.
I love y'all.
Be good.
