When Life Feels Out Of Rhythm
by Debra Ford
There are times when life feels slightly off— even when you’re doing all the right things. In this short reflection, we explore the idea that difficulty isn’t always a sign that something is wrong… but that we may be out of rhythm with how life is trying to move. A gentle Tao-based perspective on effort, flow, and the subtle art of noticing where we might be forcing. A simple question to carry with you: Where might I be pushing… instead of allowing?

Hello friend,
Welcome to my home.
I've been a student and a teacher of the Dao for many years,
More years than I care to mention.
I'd like to share a simple reflection with you this morning.
You know,
It's a really quiet morning here today.
As I look out the window I'm looking on a snow storm,
Hopefully the final snow storm of the spring,
But it's overcast and it's one of those slower and softer starts to the day.
It brings to mind something that I see often.
You know,
There are times in life when things just feel off.
You might be doing all of the right things.
You're showing up,
You're trying,
You're holding it together,
You're doing your regular meditations,
But yet something underneath feels strained,
It feels heavy,
It feels out of place.
You know,
It's often in those moments we assume that we need to try harder,
We need to push through,
We need to fix something,
But from a Dao perspective it's usually something much,
Much simpler than that.
It's not that life is working against you,
No.
It's that you may be slightly out of rhythm with how things are actually trying to move.
When we're out of rhythm everything takes more effort.
So how about this?
Instead of asking how do I fix this,
A gentler question is where might I be forcing something that wants to move differently?
Where might I be forcing something that wants to move differently?
You know,
Something,
Sometimes just asking that brings things back into flow,
Gives you a sense of peace,
A sense of solution.
It's just something to notice,
Something to explore in your own way.
And so friend,
Where might you be forcing something that just wants to move differently?
With love.
