This session will meditate on Psalm 107,
Verses 28 through 30.
This passage is being used with the concepts of calm,
Peace,
And rest in mind.
The storms and waves of the sea can be thought of as the chaos and overwhelm in our lives.
Here is the scripture from the Berean Bible.
Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
And he brought them out of their distress.
He calmed the storm to a whisper,
And the waves of the sea were hushed.
They rejoiced in the silence,
And he guided them to the harbor they desired.
Go ahead and get comfortable in your seat.
Close your eyes or have a soft gaze out in front of you.
You can rest your hands in your lap.
Take a few deep breaths as you still your body.
Let's get started.
Take a nice deep breath in.
Take a deep breath out.
Take a deep breath in.
Take a deep breath out.
Take a deep breath in.
Take a nice deep full breath in.
As you exhale,
Feel your connection to the surface beneath you.
Feel your connection to the scripture.
Which words are speaking to you?
Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
And he brought them out of their distress.
He calmed the storm to a whisper,
And the waves of the sea were hushed.
They rejoiced in the silence,
And he guided them to the harbor they desired.
Once again,
Take a nice full breath in.
This time as you exhale,
Feel your connection to the Lord.
What does this verse say about the Lord's love for us?
Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
And he brought them out of their distress.
He calmed the storm to a whisper,
And the waves of the sea were hushed.
They rejoiced in the silence,
And he guided them to the harbor they desired.
Take another full breath in.
Notice how many counts it takes,
Maybe four or five counts,
To take a deep breath in.
Then,
Gently exhale for the same number of counts.
Repeat this for a few moments until you find a rhythm that's comfortable for you.
Now,
As you inhale,
Say to yourself,
When I cry out,
Lord,
You bring me out of distress.
And as you exhale,
Say,
You calm my storms,
And I rejoice.
Let's repeat that a few times.
When I cry out,
Lord,
You bring me out of distress.
You calm my storms,
And I rejoice.
When I cry out,
Lord,
You bring me out of distress.
You calm my storms,
And I rejoice.
Feel your body getting quiet.
As you continue to breathe,
Welcome the breath in through your nostrils down into your belly.
With each breath,
You are reminded that God can calm the storms.
He will guide us to harbor.
Bring both hands to your heart space.
You can bring them into prayer or rest them on your chest.
Take one last full big breath in.
As you exhale,
Let your hands fall down onto your lap.
Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
And he brought them out of their distress.
He calmed the storm to a whisper,
And the waves of the sea were hushed.
They rejoiced in the silence,
And he guided them to the harbor they desired.
As we reach the end of our session,
Bring your chin down to your chest and open your eyes.
As you move forward today,
Remember that the Lord can calm the storms and guide us each and every day.
We will close with a prayer for serenity and peacefulness.
Lord,
I thank you for being with me through thick and thin,
In the best of times and in the most challenging times too.
You are my rock,
My fortress,
My best friend,
My savior.
With you,
I discover complete serenity.
You never forsake me.
You've given me peace knowing you will walk with me through my life at all times and at all costs.
Thank you,
Lord.
Amen.
