When we are grounded in our bodies and the Earth, we feel balanced and centered no matter what’s going on around us. If we’re not then it’s very easy to be thrown off-center by the environment we are in, a comment, a hiccup, or something else. And when we lose touch with our center we are easily drawn into distraction, maybe even other people’s agendas, or floating from one thing to the next without much cognition of why we are doing what we are doing. Our bodies are a grounding pathway we can use to anchor the mind when it’s overwhelmed. We can find it very difficult to be grounded in our bodies especially when we are experiencing emotional discomfort or physical pain. We want to escape our bodies and find ourselves living in our heads. In today’s practice we are going to visualize ourselves as a tree as a metaphor for all the changing external environments… the foliage… the seasons… the content… birds…
