Com For this guided meditation we will be using Letting Go of the Things You Fear to Lose.

A meditation from the book,

Celtic Prayers and Practices,

An Inner Journey by David Cole.

Start by sitting in a comfortable position.

Ensuring you are able to relax but maintain a good posture.

Ensuring you have a good,

Easy,

Breathing rhythm.

Nice and gentle and relaxed with a good flow in and out.

Letting go of the things you fear to lose.

The 20th Century Jesuit Priest,

Anthony de Mello,

Once said,

You never really possess things.

You merely hold them for a while.

But if you are unable to let them go,

You are held by them.

We all have things we hold dear to us.

Things we fear to lose.

But for us to be truly free within ourselves and for us to be truly and deeply connected to the Divine,

We must let go of these things in our consciousness so that they are not a part of our psychological foundation,

But a part of our growth.

If they are a part of your foundation,

Then if you lose them,

You will be shaken to your very core.

Letting go of the things we fear to lose does not actually mean losing them.

It simply means we are resting them in the Divine hands.

Placing them before God and leaving them to Divine control.

Accepting that the Divine plan may want different things of them than we do.

So as you sit quietly and still,

Close your eyes.

Draw to mind those things you fear to lose.

Picture each of these one by one.

People.

Animals.

Possessions.

Places.

A job.

Whatever it is for you.

And focus on why they are so important to you.

Draw a smile to your face as these precious things pass through your conscious thought.

Be thankful that you have these things and that they mean so much to you.

Now picture yourself.

Picture yourself holding these things in your hands.

Real life perspective is unimportant here.

For example,

If you are thinking of a person,

Picture yourself holding that person in your hands.

Now picture the image of the Divine,

Whatever that is for you,

In front of you.

In your mind's eye,

Step forward.

Bow your head.

And stretch out your arms with these things in your hands.

Open your hands.

And place these precious things within the Divine.

Do not leave it.

But picture these precious things enclosed within the Divine Spirit.

As you picture them enclosed in the Divine Spirit,

Know that God loves these things also.

And that the Divine One has a plan for each of them,

Both within your life and separate from you.

Now picture yourself.

Now leave this image.

Without taking hold of those things which you have placed within the Divine.

Leave them there.

Let go.

In your mind's eye,

Walk away without it.

Contemplate the meaning of what you have just done.

Contemplate the depth and significance of this act.

These things have been placed within the Divine.

They are still physically with you.

But you no longer hold them in the foundations of your inner self.

They continue to be a part of your existence.

But they are held now within the Divine.

They do not mean any less to you.

You have let them go.

You may feel the need or desire to repeat this practice more than once.

Or you may choose to do this practice for each thing individually.

Whether you place into the Divine all the things you fear to lose at once.

Whether you do it one at a time.

Or if you feel you need to do it for these things more than once each.

It doesn't matter.

What's important is that you practice letting go of the things you fear to lose.

Thank you.

Such a powerful tool for letting go of those who we use as our Higher Power. An excellent meditation for codependents. I wept at this “letting go” moment-very emotional. Thank you.

Oh Brother Cassian, You hit the mark‼️ So powerful, - floods of tears and emotions pouring out. Love Anthony DeMello. The physical holding and letting go, was painful but the only spiritual act I can do now. This is the answer to my prayers as I can do no more, but hand over my family to God. My grateful thanks to you and God. This will help with my healing. God Bless, Claire.

Thank you this is exactly the practice I’ve been looking for. Letting go the energy attachment to that we feel we can’t live without. The feeling of inner freedom and space has returned. For ever grateful for this practice it re awoken a deep knowing and placing it into an actual being.

I have practiced this before and was pleased to find that it was no longer about things, or even people in my life, but about me….my health, my independence, my vitality … my very life. It was wonderfully freeing. 🙏

This was exactly what I needed today, as I left a leadership job in a hospital a few days ago feeling torn and guilty about the impact. This helped me place my wonderful staff and the patients they care for into the hands of the Divine. I’m missing them terribly already but am so encouraged by this meditation.
