Every day it can feel like we’re dodging grenades from all directions. You can’t change a lot of what’s going on out there though - the only thing you can really ever control is how you react. In those grenade firing moments, when is your judgement the best? In the heat of the moment, or when you’ve stepped out of the fire and can make a decision from a place of calm? Today’s practice is about pressing the reset button on your state to find that sense of inner calm.

Make yourself comfortable either laying down or sitting tall.

Settle somewhere you'll be able to remain awake,

Listening to and following my voice.

As you sit or lay,

Begin to notice the balance of even weight between the left and the right sides.

Maybe taking a move or a shift about here to see if you can centre and settle through the body.

Come to feel into that sense of dropping completely down.

Surrendering the weight of the body down into the ground beneath you.

Allowing whatever's beneath to support and hold you up.

Sitting with this feeling of being held,

The steadiness and the grounding.

Let yourself take a few deeper breaths now.

Arriving further into this space,

Further into this practice.

Become aware of the heaviness all the way down at the feet.

The weight of them and that connection to the floor beneath them.

Notice the settling of the legs,

That sense of releasing down.

If there's any tension or gripping through the belly,

Let that soften now.

Take a few easy breaths here,

Feel into the softness,

The expansiveness of that space.

Feel any sensations as the breath moves throughout the upper body.

Notice the weight of the arms.

If you're holding tight around the shoulders all the way down to the fingertips.

Come to notice any holding around the neck,

The throat,

The jaw or the face.

You might want to swallow or yawn,

Perhaps take a gentle sigh to release anything that's holding here.

Take another full breath.

Then become aware of the body as a whole here in this space.

Observe a quiet settling of the air around your body.

Most as if you're starting to create a bubble that surrounds you completely.

How close or how far away does that bubble sit from your body?

What is it made of?

Does it have a colour to it or a light that glows?

Picture that bubble surrounding you completely as you're held quietly at its centre.

Within this space you feel yourself beginning to relax more and more with each soft breath that passes in and out of the body.

Beyond the bubble everything else carries on as normal.

But within it,

Within this space that you're sat,

It's like the volume has been turned down.

Everything slows almost to the point of being completely still,

Completely quiet.

There's no room for effort here,

No need for work.

Nothing but a soft weightlessness in the body and in the mind.

You begin to feel every inch of skin on the body softening.

As if even the very edges and boundaries of the body itself were beginning to blur.

The stillness of the space becomes a stillness within the body.

The same begins to happen in the mind.

Any thoughts begin to soften and blur.

The breath is so gentle.

It just passes through the body like a wave.

Everything is soft.

Everything is effortless.

Everything is weightless.

Everything is peaceful.

Everything is calm.

Return your awareness to the edges of that bubble.

Taking in the size and the form that it makes.

Watch as the edges of it begin to slowly melt away.

As you become aware once again of your surroundings.

Holding on to that shift within yourself.

To that state of peace and calm.

Knowing that you can recreate and return to this bubble whenever you need.

Come to focus back once again on your breathing as it moves through you.

Begin to feel your body gently reawakening.

A light energy that passes from head to toe.

Whenever you feel ready to return.

Gently opening your eyes.

Another lovely soothing practice from Courtenay without music. Just what I needed today while struggling with medication withdrawal and lots of unpleasant sensations in my body.
