Are you ready to meditate with Kari?

Climb up into your bed and get super comfortable.

Make sure that everything is just right in your room.

The lights are just right.

You're wearing your cozy,

Comfy pajamas.

And all is well in the world.

So that you can relax your body and let go of your busy,

Busy day.

Tucker and Leo were at the house with Heidi,

Cherry and Vea.

It was first thing in the morning.

It was a beautiful,

Sunny day outside.

The dogs and cats didn't quite know what to do with themselves.

Cherry said,

OMG,

I'm so bored,

I'm so bored,

I'm so boring,

I'm so boring right now.

Heidi said,

You mean you're bored?

Yeah,

Exactly,

I'm so boring.

Vea snickered.

I think what you're saying when you say you're boring,

Cherry,

Is that you're boring.

Not that you're bored,

That you're actually boring.

OMG,

No,

I'm definitely not boring.

No,

No,

I'm bored.

I'm bored.

I'm bored out of me fur.

I'm so bored.

Can we go do something?

Can we like go to the mall or can we go like shopping or can we go like play,

Play bowling?

Or can we go,

Can we go to play put,

Put,

Put,

Put,

Put,

No,

Put,

Put,

Put,

Put,

Golf.

We could go do put,

Put,

Golf.

We could go,

We could go to the movies.

We could go.

Tucker interrupted.

Cherry,

All great ideas and everything,

But we don't have any money.

We need money for all of those things,

Cherry.

Money,

You know,

Money.

Leo said,

Yep,

Tucker's right,

We need money.

Heidi said,

Yep,

He's right.

All of those things that you mentioned,

We have to pay to either get in to buy a ticket.

If we go to the mall,

Then what are we going to buy at the mall if we don't have any money?

Everything needs money.

We don't have any money.

No one gives us an allowance.

No one gives us money for gifts.

We're cats and dogs.

They don't give us money.

I once ate lots of money,

Said Tucker.

Heidi said,

You did?

Leo said,

Oh,

Don't ask him,

It's awful.

Tucker said,

I did,

I did,

Unfortunately.

Jenna had,

She had a pile of money next to her bed and it was from babysitting.

She'd been making money.

Oh,

That gives me an idea.

But let me tell you the story.

Jenna had been making money.

She was 12,

Was she,

Leo?

Was she 12 at the time?

Leo said,

She was young.

I think she was a bit older than that,

But she was young,

About 14,

15.

Yes,

That's right.

I think she was about 15 and she started babysitting for the children next door.

And it was a very easy job and she made $20 and she left it on the side of her table and it smelt like,

I don't know what it was.

I don't even remember,

But it smelt so good and I ate it.

And then the next morning,

Jenna woke up and she screamed really loud.

And our mummy came running into the room and mummy said,

What is it,

Jenna?

What is it?

And Jenna said,

My money's gone.

Where's my money?

And I got all sheepish and I started to back away out of the bedroom because I knew right then and there I'd done something wrong.

And mummy noticed because mummy knows me so well,

Doesn't she,

Leo?

Leo said,

Yes,

Mummy knows you well.

Oh,

Heidi said,

I'm afraid to ask what happened.

Faye said,

Oh no,

Did you have to somehow get $20 to pay her back?

Worse than that,

Faye,

I had to poop it out.

They waited until I pooped out the $20 and then Jenna was so mad at me because she had to wash it and dry it.

And it was disgusting,

She said.

It was so disgusting,

Tucker.

You're disgusting,

Tucker.

Don't you ever eat my money again.

And I was like,

I'm sorry,

Jenna.

It tasted like,

That's it.

It was like gummy bears.

It tasted like gummy bears,

Jenna.

Maybe the kiddos that you were babysitting for had put their fingers on it and it tasted just like gummy bears and I couldn't resist it.

And she was fast asleep and I was like,

Oh,

A nice gummy bear snack.

I didn't realise it was money until the next day with all the palaver and they had to dig it out of my doggy poop on the back garden.

It was so gross,

Right,

Leo?

Leo said,

Oh,

It was horrendous.

But they do laugh about that story now a lot,

Don't they,

Tucker?

Tucker said,

Yes,

They do.

They do talk about it sometimes and they laugh a lot about it.

Had the fact that Jenna still kept the money.

She washed it and dried it and she spent it,

Apparently.

And no one knew it had been through all of my digestive system and came out of my poopy hole.

Oh,

My goodness gracious,

It is quite funny.

But I had a thought while I was talking about all of that.

That we could get jobs.

Cherry said,

Oh,

Gee,

Tucker,

You're crazy.

No one's going to give cats and dogs a job.

Tucker said,

But we do have a magical stone and we could be human.

He said with a big smile.

Everybody looked at each other as if to say,

Let's do it.

Tucker went out onto the back garden.

He dug up his stone that he always hid under the Buddha statue.

He rubbed all the soil off it,

Cleaned it off.

The white stone was staring back at him in his paw.

He held it up to the sand.

The white stone became brighter,

More opaque.

The golden threads through the stone got really,

Really bright and lit up.

And there in the stone,

In the middle of the stone,

Was his magical angel.

She was flapping her wings around,

Smiling down at him.

You get one wish.

Just one wish,

She said,

As she always says.

Tucker said,

Oh,

My lovely angel,

We need jobs.

We need jobs,

ASA,

ASAPs.

We need them so badly and we need to be human.

So my wish is,

Could you make me and my friends human,

Please?

By the time Tucker turned round,

He looked down at his legs and noticed that he was wearing his big baggy jeans.

He got his navy blue Vans on.

He had a chain on the side of his jeans that he kept his wallet on.

That was his new,

Coolest thing that he really liked.

And then he was wearing a big,

Baggy,

Black T-shirt.

He flipped his hair to the side,

His black,

Shiny,

Cool Bieber haircut,

And walked into the kitchen.

In the kitchen,

He noticed Cherry first.

She gave him a big smile.

She was wearing a polo T-shirt and some white skinny jeans.

Vea was wearing a bright yellow dress.

It had a pink belt on it.

It looked really cute.

And she was wearing pink mini leggings,

The ones that go halfway up your calves.

And she had some pink flat shoes on.

Leo was wearing some black jeans and a grey T-shirt.

Heidi was wearing blue glasses,

A blue,

Baggy T-shirt,

And some blue jeans.

They were ready.

Ready for what?

They don't know,

But they were ready to make some money.

Cherry said,

You know what we could do?

You know what?

The last time I went to the mailbox,

Right?

I noticed the sign on the mailbox that said,

Dog walking.

We could be pet sitters.

We could go and look at that sign and see if it's still there.

Because it said,

Dog walker wanted.

And it had a telephone number.

Let's go and have a look at it and see if it's still on the mailbox.

We could call them.

We could see if they wanted the dogs walking.

And maybe we could find out if they had any neighbors that wanted the dogs walking.

Or like,

You know,

If they wanted the cats looking after if they were going away.

Or like,

If they wanted us to feed their other animals.

Anything like that.

We could do anything like that.

We could be pet sitters.

We could create our own business.

Faye said,

Do you see the irony of that?

That we're actually really cats and dogs in real life.

But then,

Now we're teenagers.

And now we're looking after pets.

Do you think the pets would know that we're really cats and dogs?

Tucker said,

Why would they think that?

They're not going to think that.

This is our reality right now.

When we do the magical stone,

We change,

Right?

We're human.

So,

No.

I mean,

We're human.

They're not going to think that we're dogs or cats.

Because that world doesn't exist right now.

This is the world that we're in.

And in this world,

We're cool.

And we're kids.

So,

Yeah.

Let's try it.

Leo said,

Okay.

Let's go phone them up and see.

Let's see what happens.

I'm a bit nervous about it.

Because,

You know,

What if the dogs aren't very nice?

What if the dogs are.

.

.

They're vicious.

Heidi said,

Well,

I don't think they'd be asking for a dog walk as if their dogs were vicious,

Right?

They'd probably be nice dogs that are friendly with strangers.

Otherwise,

They wouldn't be asking for other people to walk them.

Leo said,

Yeah,

That's a really good point.

Okay,

Let's do it.

They all walked over to the mailbox.

The poster was still there.

Cherry was right.

Cherry got out her cell phone and called the number.

She passed the phone to Vea.

Vea said,

Oh,

Hello,

Yes.

I was just wondering if the job opportunity was still available for pet sitting,

For pet walking.

She went quiet for a second and everybody was listening.

The person on the other line was talking.

Vea said,

Oh,

Yeah,

Great.

Yeah,

We can be there right now.

It's literally just down the road.

Okay,

See you in a minute.

She hung up and turned around and told everyone that the lady sounded very nice.

She had a very nice voice.

She said she has two dogs.

They're medium sized.

They need walking every day and she will pay us $5 every time we walk them.

Cherry said,

OMG,

That's great.

Tucker said,

Well,

We're going to have to do it quite a lot before we get enough money to go bowling or anything.

Cherry said,

Yeah,

But we're together and it's going to be fun.

It's going to be awesome.

Come on.

They all walked basically just two streets down the hill.

They went to the house number that the lady gave Vea.

Knocked on the door.

The lady opened the door.

She had a nice big smile and the dogs came to the door also.

They were super cute,

Very friendly.

They were wagging their tails,

Looking very happy about just meeting anyone in general.

Vea said,

Hi,

I'm the girl that you just talked to on the phone.

These are all my friends.

And yeah,

We're here to do the dog walking.

Wonderful,

The lady said.

Let me just get their leads.

The lady went back in the house for a moment and left the dogs at the front door with the kids.

Leo leaned forward and put his hand out so one of the dogs could sniff it.

The dog instantly licked his hand and Leo felt a lot more relaxed about the whole situation.

Heidi petted the other dog.

When the lady came back,

She told them that the dogs were called Bob and Philip.

Vea started laughing.

They're quite funny names for dogs.

Yes,

She said.

It's a long story.

This is Bob and this is Philip.

The dogs again wagged their tails.

She put the leads on the dogs.

It had one of those little canopy like things on it that had poop bags attached to the lead.

So they didn't have to worry about that.

She told them that she'd like them to go and take them for at least a 10 minute walk.

And they could do that every day if they wanted.

She asked Vea if she'd ever done this before.

And Vea was very honest and said no.

This is their first time.

But we're very responsible and we'll make sure that we take good care of your dogs.

The lady smiled at Vea as if she trusted her.

And that was that.

They started to take Bob and Philip for a walk.

Bob and Philip were awesome dogs.

They were very easygoing.

Very,

Very nice.

And it was no problem.

And the 10 minutes flew by very fast.

When they took the dogs back,

She handed over $5 to Vea.

And said,

Will I be seeing you tomorrow?

And Vea said,

Yes,

I think so.

Thank you so much.

Before we go,

Is there any other neighbours or anybody on this street,

You know,

That has dogs that would like the same service?

The lady scratched her chin as if she was thinking about it.

And then she said,

You know,

Actually,

Yeah,

I think maybe Jeremy and Glenda over there.

They have a couple of dogs.

They might be interested.

And also like two doors down from there.

Yeah,

Rita.

Rita has a nice dog.

She might be interested too.

If I were you guys,

I would just walk around the neighbourhood and knock on doors and say,

Are you interested in dog walking?

Do you have a pet?

Something like that.

I'm sure you'll drum up a lot of business.

Before you know it,

You guys will be rich.

What are you going to do with all your money?

Cherry said,

Oh,

I don't know.

We've got so many options,

You know,

So many options.

But you know,

Everything costs money these days,

Don't it?

The lady said,

Yep,

You're right,

Love.

It does.

Everything costs money.

All right,

Well,

I'll let you go.

Bye.

See you tomorrow.

And she closed the door.

So that's what the kids did.

It was a good idea.

They walked around the neighbourhood,

Knocking on the doors,

Asking if anybody needed a pet sitting service or dog walking service.

If they needed the lawn mowing.

Tucker had a brilliant idea halfway around that maybe we could borrow his mum and dad's lawnmower and just mow people's lawns for like 20 bucks or something.

They walked down three different streets in the neighbourhood and got three new businesses just from three different streets.

They were quite impressed with themselves.

The thing is,

They're going to have to be human to do these jobs,

Right?

So maybe they're going to have to be human more often to do the jobs.

They hadn't really thought this through too much.

They're not normally turning into humans every day.

So what are they going to do about the predicament that they find themselves in?

Now they were responsible for jobs.

They were responsible for four different houses in total.

Four different dog walking jobs.

What are they going to do about that?

Maybe,

Maybe,

You know,

Just maybe,

We could just do it once a week.

We could come to them all on the same day and tell them all that we're only available once a week.

We're only available at the weekends because,

You know,

We're kids,

Right?

We'd be in school,

Wouldn't we?

So yeah,

We could do it Saturdays or Sundays.

Faye said,

Yeah,

That's right.

That's a good idea.

Let's do that.

Let's start doing it like every week.

Every Sunday morning or something.

Maybe we can ask Sasha and Poe and Mr.

Kitty,

You know,

D'Angelo.

We could ask them all if they wanted to come with us.

It'd be so much fun.

We could make like a day of it.

Everyone agreed that that was a really good idea.

They'd like to do this with their friends.

Of course,

They'd have to split the money more ways,

But that's okay.

Eventually,

They'll have enough money to go bowling or go to the mall or whatever else they want to do.

This was actually fun.

Dog walking was fun.

Dogs walking dogs and cats walking dogs.

It's quite peculiar and very strange.

But no one knew that,

Did they?

They just thought it was the humans that were walking the dogs.

How cool is that?

The end.

I decided to listen to this story because I was feeling very bored, just like they all were (I laughed inside my head at the coincidence), and when they were discussing where to go I thought I could go to a bookstore/library where I could sit and read because I’m sort of like Heidi, except I don’t read non fiction. So thank you for the idea!
