Welcome to this morning's meditation.
If you haven't done so already,
Sit down in a comfortable seated position.
Make sure that your spine is nice and straight.
You can rest your hands on your lap or on your knees.
If you're needing a little bit more ground in this morning,
Place the palms down facing the earth.
That way you'll feel more secure,
More steady,
More grounded.
If you need a little bit more spirit,
More guidance,
More higher connection to source,
Then place your hands the other way,
With palms up to the sky,
Open,
Ready to receive.
Starting to focus on your breathing,
Slow down your breathing,
If you haven't done so already.
Sending signals to your parasympathetic nervous system that it's time to relax.
This is your special time to just be still and quiet,
Whether it's for five minutes,
30 minutes,
An hour.
Your meditation should be something that brings you a sense of peace,
Sense of joy,
Stillness,
But most of all self-awareness.
This meditation practice is all about self-awareness and within that self-awareness,
No judgment.
The idea is you feel where you're at and you don't judge it.
So if you sit in your meditation and you're irritated or upset or angry or hurt,
That's okay.
It's all about just being present with where you're at and allowing that to bring a sense of peace.
Because most of the time we're trying to shift out of negative moods,
Negative energies,
We think that we're not allowed to be in that kind of place,
Right?
But we are very much so.
So wherever you're at,
Don't judge,
Is my point,
No judgment.
Feel into your body and start to take deeper breaths.
Intentionally breathe down into your stomach,
Your lower abdomen.
Let the belly expand as you breathe in,
Nice and big and deep.
And as you breathe out,
Feel your tummy contracting back towards the spine.
Let your shoulders drop and relax on the exhale.
Focus on certain points of the body when you sit into your meditation.
Make sure that your jaw is nice and relaxed.
So opening your mouth slightly,
Allowing the top of your mouth to move away from the roof of the mouth.
Relax the tongue at the base of your mouth.
Let your cheeks soften.
Check in with the space around your eyes and across your forehead and let any tension melt away in that part of your body.
Literally encourage softness in your face.
Relax your abdomen,
Relax your shoulders,
But maintain a straight spine.
Check in with your sit bones,
See how they feel in the chair or on the ground.
Just run your attention from your hips down through your legs,
All the way down to your feet and just assess where your legs are at,
How they feel today.
I've noticed that when I sit in meditation,
The first thing I do is connect to the physical.
That brings my attention into myself,
Into my self-awareness physically.
So we do a quick body sweep through the body and then we can check in with the mental.
So this is where we start to just really,
Really focus on being still.
Focus on the breath.
Let go of focusing on your body so much.
Bring your attention up into the head space.
Imagine that your head,
Your mind is like three drawers,
A set of drawers stacked on top of each other in your bedroom,
Like the bedroom drawers and the top drawer,
You've got certain areas of your life,
The middle drawer is certain areas of your life,
The bottom drawer,
The same.
If you open up the top drawer,
This is about family,
Relationships,
Love,
Intimate relationships,
The relationship with yourself,
All of that baggage,
All of that wonderfulness inside of this top drawer.
What would need to be given to goodwill?
If you were staring into this drawer,
What would you need to let go of to be happier,
To be lighter?
Imagine the clothes are representing different things,
Your relationship with your mom or your dad,
Your relationship with your children,
Friends,
Lover,
Whatever it is,
Your pets,
Your neighbours.
If there's anything that causes you a little bit of ache or pain or discomfort or uncomfortableness,
Or that needs to be worked on,
That needs to be sorted through,
Imagine today that you don't actually have to do the work,
But you can just mentally lighten up about it.
Each of those items of clothing represents something that you need to just throw away,
Give to goodwill.
How about we haphazardly start to just throw them over our shoulders?
You know that argument I had with my mom,
That's that t-shirt,
Bum,
Throw it on the bed.
I'm going to let that go for a while.
You know how the neighbour bugs me,
Bum,
Throw that pair of underwear over there on the bed.
Do you see what I want you to do?
I want you to have a little bit of fun with it.
Also know that you're lightening up.
I'm going to go quiet for a minute or two,
So you can just sort through your mind and sort through the drawers,
The top drawer,
And just throw it all on the bed.
You might have to sort through these things still in reality,
But for now you're energetically,
Emotionally letting go of some of the weight of it.
You're just throwing it out metaphorically.
Make some space in that top drawer,
Room for new things coming in.
Light,
Happy relationships,
Positive interactions with people,
Joyful connection with others.
You're making room for what's to come.
Now let's look at that middle drawer.
That middle drawer,
I'd like you to close the top drawer,
And imagine you're opening the middle drawer in your bedroom,
In your set of drawers,
And there it is.
All of the finances,
Money,
Bills,
Responsibilities,
Expectations,
All of that,
Your job,
Work,
Whatever it is that is your income,
Anything in this drawer that represents something that you need to be less stressed about.
Let's throw it out.
Give it to goodwill.
Pick up that pair of jeans and say,
You know,
Yeah,
That can go.
That will come.
I'll sort it out.
See if you can mentally start to lighten up your thoughts at the same time as letting go of these things.
What's something that you need to let go of and lighten up about around your abundance?
What if we just trusted in the universe?
We were like the hummingbird,
And we were just lightening up completely about this.
Yes,
The problems might still be there,
But your perspective,
We're changing your perspective a little bit to be easier,
Lighter,
Not so intense.
As I'm talking to you,
Start to think in your mind about what would make you feel better around this area of your life and how you could maybe switch your thoughts around it.
Let those items of clothing in the drawer represent those thoughts,
Those heavinesses,
Those weights,
And just throw them on the bed for goodwill.
Let's open the bottom drawer.
This bottom drawer has things stuffed inside of it that represent thoughts and feelings that weigh you down about you,
About your body,
Your health,
Your physical self,
Your emotional,
Mental self.
What are some of the thoughts that weigh you down about yourself that you need to let go of?
Represented in the items of clothing there in your drawer,
What can you give to goodwill and just lighten up that space?
What can you stop picking on yourself about?
Do you need to love who you are more?
What do you need to make space for?
I'm going to give you a minute to just sort through this drawer.
Lighten up the load.
Letting go of this,
Let go of the visualization,
Let go of any action,
Any requirement from your mind.
Just bring yourself back to your breath completely.
Nice,
Long,
Slow,
Deep breath.
Allow yourself to feel as if you accomplished something metaphorically today in your meditation.
Just let it be what it was,
Whatever you experienced,
Whatever came up.
It was exactly what was supposed to happen for you.
And that's always a good thing.
So if you maintained your connection,
That was awesome.
If you got bored,
That's awesome.
If you left and need to come back,
That's awesome.
Just let it be whatever it was.
It's about self-acceptance.
Accepting in the moment in itself brings lightness,
Right?
It is what it is.
We don't have to stress about it.
I'm going to count to three and you can open your eyes and bring yourself back into the present moment,
Back into your space,
Back into your room,
Ready for whatever comes your way today.
One,
Two,
Three.
Opening your eyes,
Being present with me.
Let's take a nice,
Big,
Deep breath in together,
Breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth.
So take a nice,
Big,
Deep breath all the way down to the base of your spine.
Breathe,
Breathe,
Breathe,
Breathe,
Breathe.
Hold the breath at the top and then when we breathe out in a second,
Let out a big sigh and exhale.
Resume your normal breathing back in your body.
Namaste,
My friends.
Thank you for meditating with me.
