Please find a comfortable seat,
Rest your hands in your lap,
And I'll invite you to close your eyes and feel with that action a settling of your body and your mind and a gentle retraction of your awareness into the space of your own skin.
Let's first scan your body,
Noticing any sensations,
Any restlessness or sluggishness.
Just feeling what is the state of this outer form today.
Now do the same thing with your mind,
Taking stock of your inner state.
Does your mind feel restless or sluggish or easeful?
In Ayurveda we don't separate these two aspects of yourself,
Body and mind function as one unit.
So let's use your breath as the regulating force between these two,
Outer form and inner state.
Simply bring your awareness to your breath.
Let your breath remain easy.
Feel how this single pointed focus of your mind to your breath starts to settle your mind.
Any push and pull or rigor of mental activity begins to dissolve with the inhale and the exhale.
Now feel how the softening of your mind begins to settle your body,
Creating a space for ease or sattva,
Balance as we call it in Ayurveda.
Now let's sit here for a few moments.
Feel your mind steady as it watches your easy breath.
And in this effortlessness your outer form relaxes and you know bliss.
And if at any point you feel your mind start to drift and your body begin to tense,
Simply return to your breath.

Please take a deeper breath in.
Open your mouth and exhale with a soft sigh.
Bring your palms together at heart center in a symbol of offering.
Feel this equilibrium between your outer form and your inner state,
Body and mind,
Matter and energy functioning together in rhythm with nature to create health and happiness.
And then invite your breath to be the thread of continuity between this harmony in your meditation practice and in all of your actions and interactions throughout your day.
