We all have two sides of ourselves: one that is more "yang" (the "doing" part of ourselves) and another side that is more "yin" (the "being," relaxed part of ourselves). This experiential and visual meditation honors these two seemingly opposing sides of you, so you can honor both sides and experience greater balance. This meditation is inspired in part by IFS therapy or "parts work." It is not an official IFS meditation. If you like this, feel free to check out my website to learn more.

Inside of each of us we have a side that is professional and hard-working,

Strong and dedicated,

And another side that is more relaxed,

Flexible,

And carefree.

To be the best version of ourselves,

We need to be able to honor both of these sides,

Both the yang and the yin.

This meditation honors two seemingly opposing sides of you,

The side that wants to accomplish,

Achieve,

And do,

And also the side of you that wants to feel calm and carefree.

Let's begin.

Take a moment to get into a comfortable seated posture,

Where you're sitting up tall and straight without feeling too tense or rigid.

Feel the ground or the chair or the floor supporting you.

Close your eyes and set the intention for balance.

And see if you can call to mind the side of you that works really hard and is very professional,

And imagine it standing in front of you over to the right.

And also see the side of you that is more creative,

Relaxed,

Carefree,

That wants to play.

And imagine it standing over to your left.

Whatever images or colors come up is fine.

Just go with it.

And now turn to the part of you that's on the right,

That's hardworking,

And send an appreciation for all its hard work.

Send a gratitude for its contribution to your life and to the world.

And ask it if it needs anything from you today,

Maybe some recognition or even a break.

See if you can give that to this part of you right now and make a mental note to honor this in the future.

Maybe saying,

Good job,

I appreciate you.

Thank you for what you do.

Now turn to the other part of you on the left and send it some compassion and love and gratitude as well.

Thank it for keeping you human.

See if it needs anything from you today to feel honored,

To be given space in your life.

And see if you can honor that with love and care.

And especially if you struggle to create space for this part of you,

Set the intention right now to create space for this part of you in your life.

Now imagine holding hands with these two sides of you,

All three of you together,

Setting the intention for balance and harmony for these two important sides of your personality,

Knowing they make up two halves of a very important whole.

And send them one last bit of kindness and then let that visualization dissolve.

And whenever you're ready,

You can slowly start to come back,

Opening your eyes.

Just remember to honor balance and harmony as you go back out into your day.
