Begin connecting to your body through your breathing.
Notice the sensations in your body as you breathe.
The rising and falling of your chest.
The expansion of the abdomen and how the belly draws back in on the exhale.
Staying steady with your breath.
Now imagine that you are floating on the surface of an utterly calm ocean.
Underneath you,
You feel the gentle sway of those ocean waters.
You feel the warm sun on your skin and beneath you,
The soft water.
Stay in that peaceful state for the next few breaths.
Now imagine that in your dating life,
You have just met someone that you are really excited about and you feel that strong emotional tug.
That tug wants to pull you up into the sky on an emotional high and extreme.
Go ahead and feel that tug in your body.
Feel how that strong emotion wants you to get swept up in the ecstasy of it.
As if it wants you to go kite surfing or paragliding way up high over those ocean waves.
Keep noticing that tug on you and witness that restless energy in your body.
You stay steady with that restless feeling and you choose to stay on the surface of those ocean waters.
Keep breathing.
Feeling with the direct experience of this emotional tug in your body.
Until you start to notice that restlessness dying down,
Getting softer.
And you are once again floating peacefully on those calm ocean waves.
And maybe now a higher perspective comes in.
I can enjoy the process of getting to know this new person while staying on this even heel.
It's still very new.
I have time.
Go back to that calm feeling on the surface of the water for the next few breaths.
And now imagine that in your dating life.
You've encountered a huge disappointment.
You wanted something to work out with someone and it didn't.
And once again you feel that strong emotional tug.
This time the emotion wants to pull you down underneath the surface of the ocean into an emotional low.
Go ahead and feel that tug.
Notice how that emotion wants to plunge you way down into the dark depths of the ocean.
Notice that restless energy in your body.
Staying steady with it.
But choosing to stay on the surface of those ocean waters.
Keep breathing.
Until you start to notice that restlessness settling down,
Getting milder.
And you are once again floating peacefully on those calm ocean waves.
With a new higher perspective.
Yes,
This was a huge disappointment,
But I'm okay.
I'm held and guided by something much larger than me.
And let those calm ocean waves beneath you be the gentle presence that is holding you.
Feel what it's like to be supported by the expansiveness of that ocean.
Being held and supported.
Now let all of that imagery go,
Releasing it.
Come back to the body.
Come back to your breathing.
And when you are ready,
Gently open your eyes.
