Welcome,
This special session will help all Dragon Riders to improve their concentration and focus so that you can discover the magic of your senses and learn more about the world around you,
Your own body and how to be the best Dragon Rider you can be.
For when we use all of our senses to create what we want in our minds,
It helps us to become fantastic inventors,
Creators,
Explorers and problem solvers.
So to begin,
Get yourself into a really comfortable sitting position,
Wriggle and stretch for a moment until you're ready to relax.
And as you find that perfect position,
I wonder if you can begin to notice what is around you,
What's above you,
Below you and to the sides of you.
Noticing what in the room is furthest away and what's closest to you.
Noticing all the colours around you and what shapes can you see?
Can you see rectangles,
Squares,
Circles,
Triangles or spheres?
And as you look around you now,
I wonder if you could imagine a special door close to you that only you can see.
Maybe it's an old creaky door from a castle or one that opens with a special remote control that you're holding in your hand.
I wonder what your favourite door would look like,
Where it is and how big it is.
And can you imagine opening that special door now and as you do,
Close your eyes,
Taking a nice deep breath.
And as you close your eyes,
The first thing you might notice is that your eyes are a little bit fluttery as you feel your chest rising and falling with each breath.
You might even feel your heartbeat or the rise and fall of your chest if you place your hands over your heart.
And even though it may feel a little dark at first as you step through your special doorway,
You might begin to notice some colours,
Some shapes or images beginning to appear behind your closed eyelids.
Just like when we begin to fall asleep,
But this time you're going to use your powerful imagination,
All your senses to learn to be a wonderful dragon rider.
For dragon riders need to use all their senses to learn to fly and guide their dragons safely.
I want you to remember a colour you saw when your eyes were open just before.
And if you had a magic wand in your hand,
Imagine creating in front of you the body of a wonderful dragon that is that colour.
Perhaps you remember other colours and shapes from around you that could create the wings,
The eyes,
The scales,
Legs and tail.
And as you create and colour in your own magical dragon in front of you,
I wonder if you can begin to notice how big it is.
Could you need a ladder to climb onto its back?
Could you easily reach up and give it a pat on the head?
And as you take the next big breath,
Feeling air flow into your chest and lungs and your chest beginning to rise,
I wonder if you can imagine reaching over to your dragon and feeling its chest rise and fall as it breathes deeply too.
Your special dragon can sense and feel how you're feeling and as you tune into your body,
I wonder if you notice any tension in your arms,
Your back,
Your neck,
Your tummy or legs.
Are there any places that feel uncomfortable right now?
And if you notice them,
Take a moment to stretch them out with your eyes still closed and notice how your dragon stretches with you.
Our bodies let us know when we're worried,
Scared or angry by holding feelings and tension in our bodies.
Sometimes it's our necks,
Our chest,
Our tummy.
Take a moment to scan your body and notice how you feel.
Are there any difficult emotions that you'd like to release or are you feeling happy,
Calm and relaxed?
You can breathe out any difficult feelings with a big fiery breath and as you do,
So does your dragon.
At first that fiery breath is red,
Then orange,
Yellow,
Green,
Blue,
Purple until it becomes a pure white smoke that tastes like the best ice cream you've ever tasted and smells even sweeter.
It's so much easier to ride your dragon when you're feeling calm and relaxed in your mind and body,
For when we're calm and relaxed we can see things very clearly,
Know where we want to go,
See how we can travel there and we're able to communicate all of that to our body and our dragon.
The next thing we need to focus on is our sense of hearing,
For this can warn us of dangers,
Let us know when friends are near and helps us to enjoy the words of even the silliest dragon song.
So for a moment,
While your dragon listens in to your thoughts,
I wonder if you can notice what you can hear around you,
Sounds that are far away and sounds that are so close.
You might even notice your dragon turning towards those sounds too,
As if hearing them for the very first time and can you notice your inner sounds,
The sounds of each breath entering your nose and perhaps you could place your hands over your ears,
Noticing if they feel warm or cold and tuning in to what you can hear,
You might notice a low rumble and that rumble is the energy that creates worlds in your imagination and it's the energy that will allow you to become a brave dragon rider,
To find the solutions to any problems you might encounter and to make the world more colourful,
More beautiful,
More fun for every living thing.
And I wonder if you can notice now what you're wearing,
Just by feeling with your hands or noticing where your clothes touch your skin,
Does it feel soft or scratchy and what might it feel like to put on special dragon riders clothes that are made for comfort and warmth As you fly through starry night skies,
Notice what it feels like to pull them over your head,
Onto your chest and arms,
Over your legs,
Notice what they smell like,
What they're made from and how they make you feel.
Dragon riders shoes fit perfectly for they must be strong enough to climb and grip onto sharp dragon scales and fit snugly into the stirrups of the dragon's saddle.
Each dragon rider has to craft their own saddle to fit their dragon perfectly and each dragon has a particularly sensitive sense of smell.
Some prefer saddles that smell of musty cheese,
Others like the smell of peppermints and some prefer the smell of piney woods.
You will know your dragon's favourite smell and will craft a saddle with your magic wand that's both strong and supple,
Allowing you to feel safe and secure on your dragon's back.
At times you will notice the smell and smile,
For it will remind you of how you and your dragon work so well together.
The last sense you need to prepare before flying on your next adventure is the sense of taste,
For a dragon will only fly at its best if it is well fed and hydrated.
Dragons love to drink cold spring water from rivers and lakes,
A taste that is so sweet and pure.
They feel it flowing into their tummies and out to the tips of their wings,
Their toes and even their nose,
And in those moments the taste of cool water puts out their flames and they feel alive all over.
Do you remember the taste of cool clean water that sparkles on your lips and tongue?
Your dragon also wants you to know what its favourite food is,
So you can pack some in a bag before your flight.
Luckily for you this is easy to know,
For your dragon loves the same tastes that you do.
So with a bag packed full of your favourite treats,
Ready to go,
You can climb aboard your dragon and begin this new adventure.
Your senses will be alive to the world around you,
So you and your dragon can hear each other's thoughts,
Sense what is around each corner,
Taste crystal clear water from rivers across the lands and discover all there is to learn about this magical world with a sense of curiosity.
So I will leave you to adventure alone now,
I'm excited to hear about all your adventures around the world with your dragon.
