Hi,
So today I want to present a few thoughts around balance.
We all have goals and dreams and things that we want to change but are we always going about it in the right way?
Something that I've realized with greater and greater clarity is that there needs to be balance between energy and action,
Between being and doing,
Whether our goal is to increase our income or to improve our emotional well-being.
There needs to be balance in terms of the time and attention that goes on being and that which we spend on doing.
So a balance between helping ourselves feel good and taking concrete action in the physical world.
So I believe that life and the universe wants to co-create with us,
Wants to assist us in moving forward and becoming the best version of ourselves,
Of achieving goals that are deeply important to us,
Of having experiences that we long to experience.
But if we don't get this balance right between energy and action often it can seem or feel quite the opposite.
It can seem that life actually is against us or things just aren't going the way that I want them to.
So if you're feeling a little bit stuck in some area of your life,
Maybe you feel like you're on a bit of a loop and you get so far but then you find yourself feeling stuck again.
Or maybe you're just generally feeling burnt out and stressed and frustrated.
So if you're in either of those positions consider this,
Consider this balance.
So in life it's really important that we engage with life and that we take certain actions.
However if we over focus on action,
If we maybe become obsessed with doing things the right way or we only attend to our responsibilities rather than also attending to our desires,
If we stay in this doing mode we can get stressed easily,
We can find ourselves burning out and also we lose connection to our intuition,
To the flow of inspiration,
Of creativity,
Which I believe comes from our connection to Source,
To our divinity,
To our higher selves.
So we don't want to overdo action but on the other hand if we're only focused on energy,
In shifting our emotions,
Meditating,
Reading books,
Doing things that bring joy,
These are all really important.
But if we only stay in this kind of energetic plane and we don't take any action in the physical world then there's no momentum in the physical world.
And really most of our manifestations,
The things that we desire,
We want them to be physical,
We want them to be something that we can see and feel,
You know,
Something tangible.
So if we stay in this energetic without taking action there's no momentum in our physical experience so we then start to get a bit fed up.
We're like,
Well what's happening?
I'm not seeing any change.
So balance is really key.
So I'm gonna give you a couple examples now to help you start to see what this could look like.
So what does balance look like and what does imbalance look like in real-life situations?
So in example one let's say we've got a man called Michael and he's over focusing on action.
He's a fitness enthusiast and he's planning to run a marathon which he's really excited about.
It's a dream that he's had for a very long time.
So he set up this very rigorous training schedule that involves running,
Weightlifting,
Cross training,
All these efforts in the physical world to improve his performance.
So he turns down social invitations,
He drops reading that he used to do of an evening and his meditation practice slips off.
Because in his mind there's no time for all of that right now.
But Michael finds that as the training intensifies and he keeps pushing his boundaries he starts experiencing exhaustion,
Muscle soreness,
Minor injuries.
You see he's been so heavily focused on the physical acts on the doing that he's neglected his overall well-being and energy.
So he has this important goal but he's ended up burning himself out which then negatively impacts his ability to run the marathon successfully.
So how then do we strike a balance in this kind of situation?
So Michael might like to incorporate rest days into his training routine so that he can prevent injuries and allow his energy levels a chance to replenish.
And he might also like to find time to engage in activities like yoga,
Meditation,
Spending quality time with loved ones.
And he may find that all of this helps to improve his mental and emotional state which then has a positive effect on his overall performance during training and on race day.
So you can see how easy it might be in this situation to focus on the action but actually how damaging it could be.
And equally how easy it might be to incorporate a little bit of balance and how beneficial that could be.
So the second example is the opposite.
So we've got a gentleman called Matt and he is over focusing on energy and not really paying much attention to action.
So let's say that Matt is socially anxious but he really craves connection.
He wants to improve his relationships and start to have more fun with other people.
So he begins to think about what's been getting in the way of him doing this so far.
So maybe he starts becoming aware of the thoughts that are out of alignment with this desire.
Maybe he starts meditating and feeling more ease,
More oneness.
He also has therapy or coaching and he starts to feel differently about himself and the people around him and he's quite motivated.
And these internal shifts are massively important.
They provide a really solid foundation for change.
But let's say Matt feels great and at the same time since he's really quite busy at work he starts to say that he doesn't actually have time to go out and socialize.
So instead of saying yes to invitations he says no.
So although he's starting to open up energetically life isn't able to then show him that things can change because there's no momentum in the physical world.
So maybe he starts to lose hope again and he ends up thinking the same things that he did before like I don't fit in.
So we can't solely focus on feelings and thoughts and energy in the same way that we can't just focus on action.
We have to take a small step at least one step in the physical world to start that momentum.
So talking to that person,
Finding out about an event and going to the event even though you are so scared.
Because when we do that we allow life to show us a new experience to reinforce the positive energy that we've been working on and reflect it back to us.
So now let's think about you.
You might want to grab a pen and a notebook.
Let's take a little bit of a stock check.
So thinking about what you do in a normal day consider what are the action pieces?
What is the doing that you engage in every day?
So the things that you are maybe responsible for,
The things that you feel that you have to do or that you should do.
Once you've done that think about the energy pieces.
So what helps you every day to feel good?
To think in a way that's in alignment with what you want.
And as you reflect if you start to see that there's a bit of an imbalance don't beat yourself up.
Notice that this is an opportunity.
So considering then what can I do to create balance?
So it might be simple things like if I'm focusing on action all day maybe I incorporate a walk at lunchtime.
Maybe I listen to music as I'm preparing my lunch.
Maybe I start the day with some yoga or a favorite podcast that always puts me in a good headspace.
Another thing that's really important when it comes to energy is simply practicing mindfulness.
So allowing yourself moments during the day of complete presence where you completely let go of the to-do list,
Let go of the thoughts,
Let go of tension and resistance and allow yourself to enjoy just being.
On the other hand if your day is filled up with pleasant things,
Mindfulness,
Presence and you feel pretty good,
Considering your values and considering is there something that maybe you're not doing that's related to something you value that maybe you could do that would allow you to live your value more.
So for example if your value is professional development,
Maybe you look for a course online that would help you to grow in knowledge and experience.
Or maybe creativity is something that you really value and you used to love writing and maybe you stopped doing that.
Actually that would feel really good to to start doing again.
So considering where the balance is,
If there's balance,
If there is an imbalance just seeing that as an opportunity to maybe add something in or take something away.
Now let's get a little bit more specific for a minute.
What's something that you want to change or perhaps a goal that you'd like to achieve?
Once you're aware of that then think about what are some things that you can do to help yourself feel good now,
Not when you've achieved the goal or changed the thing.
For example do you want to plug in some meditation in your day,
Some mindfulness,
Maybe search for a book relating to the goal that you have.
And then considering what are some actions in the physical world that you can take.
So considering the individual responsibilities in each category but then also thinking about balance.
So what can I do to ensure a healthy balance between energy and action as I pursue this goal,
As I take this commitment to change this area of my life.
Alright now let's quickly think about some common signs of imbalance.
So one major sign that we are doing too much is obsessive thinking.
So for finding that we're chasing thought after thought that's normally a sign that we need to take a step back.
So dropping the goal focus,
Dropping the action mode and just allowing ourselves to do nothing maybe.
And another sign is if we're feeling tired,
If we're feeling frustrated,
If we're feeling stressed.
Again these are signs that there's just too much action going on.
So seeing if we can do something else,
Be in silence,
Go for a walk,
A swim,
Listen to music.
So whatever we can do to move into a space of energy,
Of being rather than doing.
Remembering that when we are in that energy space we are connected to our higher self,
We're connected to intuition,
We're gonna have ideas and solutions will emerge in our awareness.
Another sign that we're doing too much may be a lack of progress.
So maybe we've been focusing on action but the the steps that we're taking were taken out of alignment.
So maybe from a space of fear or rushing or thinking about what you should do according to what someone else thinks.
This is what you intuitively feel drawn to doing.
And on this point I just want to make it clear that when it comes to action it's really important that we don't overthink it.
So it's not really about what the best action is,
It's about taking a step forward that in this moment feels aligned.
And for me the best action I often find is the one that you are excited about.
So something that you know where you're curious,
You're like hmm wouldn't it be so interesting to try X,
Y and Z?
Wouldn't it be fun?
So remembering we don't have to get things perfect,
Take what feels like an aligned action and life will then present to us the next step.
And if you don't know what to do,
If you're really not sure about,
If you're thinking oh yeah I have been maybe taking steps out of alignment but I don't know what to do,
Then that's fine just kind of allow yourself to not know,
Go back into the energy space through whatever mode works for you best and trust that the guidance will come.
So a couple of signs that maybe we are not doing enough would be maybe if we are not seeing any movement,
If we have a certain goal but there is literally no movement,
No feedback.
So if we're not getting feedback from life that we're either on the right track or not,
That's a sign that maybe there haven't been enough steps made in the physical world.
And if that is the case for you I invite you to consider,
Do you think maybe fear might be stopping you from taking action?
And if that is the case I invite you to consider that there's no such thing as failure.
It's often the fear of failure that keeps us kind of in freeze mode and actually the way to overcome fear is to let it be here,
To not expect it to have to disappear in order for you to have the green light to move forward but to just recognize that fear is a sign that you are expanding your comfort zone,
You're growing.
So start to see if you can take some small steps in the physical world despite the fear,
So letting the fear be there and still moving forward.
Because when you take some action you're going to get some feedback.
Life is going to be able to show you bit by bit that the things that you want to achieve,
The person you want to be,
The things you want to enjoy in life are all available to you.
Last point is that just be aware that in some areas you might be all action and in some areas maybe you are all energy.
So just being curious about what your personal sort of patterns of behavior are and remembering that awareness is like the most powerful thing when it comes to change.
So just being curious and knowing that what you find,
If that feels out of balance in some way,
This is an opportunity for you to do a bit of tweaking that's going to help you to move forward.
Alright so that brings us to a close but I think this is a really key thing and I think if we can get this balance right we can look after our well-being right now while also achieving our goals.
It doesn't have to be any sacrifice,
We can have both.
I hope that was helpful,
Thank you for listening and have a great rest of your day.
