According to Merriam-Webster,
One of the definitions of the word promise is to pledge,
To bring about.
It's different than a wish or a desire.
It's more active.
It's a declaration that you're going to do or refrain from doing something.
And in today's meditation,
You'll have the opportunity to make a promise to yourself,
A promise in regard to how you want your day to go,
How you want to feel,
Something you want to do,
An attitude you want to have.
And at the end of this meditation,
I invite you to turn toward your journal and you can write out your promise to yourself.
And this can be a daily routine.
Today I promise to.
So find yourself in a comfortable position,
Ideally seated,
But you can do this lying down and gently close your eyes.
And just feel into yourself.
And focus on your breath.
Without trying to change your breath,
Just notice your breath.
And as you focus on your breath,
Thoughts may come and go,
And that's okay.
That's normal.
We are thinking creatures.
Just don't attach to the thoughts.
Let them drift by clouds in the sky.
Take in a deep breath now through your nose.
Hold it for a moment at the top and then release.
And then notice your body and how you feel after a deep breath.
And take in another deep breath through your nose,
Holding it for a moment at the top and release and notice how you feel in your body.
One more deep breath in through your nose,
Holding it at the top.
Release and notice.
Now,
Let's make a promise.
It can be a promise of how you want to feel,
Something you want to do,
A conversation you might want to have.
It could be anything.
It's your promise.
It's your day.
Say to yourself,
Or if you'd like,
You can turn toward your journal and say or write,
Today I promise.
Today I promise.
And really feel into this promise.
Feel into how it will be,
How you will be when you keep your promise.
And breathe in that feeling.
Let that feeling fill you up.
Today I promise.
And if you're writing in your journal,
You can write about how it feels when you keep your promise.
And if you're not writing in your journal,
Just breathe into that delicious feeling of keeping a promise to yourself.
Thank you so much for spending some time meditating with me today.
