Repetition Is The Mother Of Skill (4 Of 7)
The reason for this series is the desire to walk the talk, take my own medicine, put myself in the "uncomfortzone." And by doing so, creating the conditions for growth. We can not repeat things and not learn from them, not grow. And it takes no talent to repeat things, just action - and of course learning how to deal with the fear of failing. The series is a mix of words, theories, models, and meditation.
Transcript
Good morning everybody.
Good morning.
I'm just going to turn on my camera as well.
All right.
Welcome to day four of repetition is the mother of skill.
Yesterday was a failure.
Big time failure because of me making a mistake with the AM-PM.
So I realized in the morning that I made a mistake and I had to do it at 6.
30 in the evening.
And I knew that at that time I was going to be on my way back home and everything went wrong.
I did record,
Voice record went through.
But this is the growth mindset,
Right?
Continue despite the failures.
So this is day four.
It's 25 seconds for 24,
23 until I start the live stream on Inside Timer.
I'm feeling good.
I'm in my more comfortable zone with my gear,
With my stuff.
So yeah,
Looking forward to having a great session with you guys.
Hopefully you're going to be inspired and bring something good with you.
So one second,
Starting now.
Good morning.
Good morning,
Everybody.
Let me know if you guys can hear me and see me as well.
If you just help me out in the comment field,
Let me know if I'm getting through to you with video and audio.
Yes and yes.
Great.
Let's just get settled here and just wait a minute to see.
Hello,
Hello.
So while we wait for.
.
.
To see if anybody else is going to join us.
Jack,
I know that you've been on the session before,
Right?
So just for you guys that haven't been with me and the rest of the circle here before,
This is my day four of repetition is the mother of skill.
So the reason for me doing this is that,
Well,
Like everything else that we've learned,
We know that we need to repeat stuff in order to get good at anything.
And I'm really keen on realizing my own dreams,
You know,
Manifest in them.
And I'm also quite aware that it's us that stand in the way of achieving what we want to achieve most often.
So,
Izzy is asking me how I'm doing and I'm actually doing really well.
Yesterday was a complete failure with this live stream event.
The reason being that when I realized in the morning that I made a mistake with the AMPM,
So I scheduled it for six thirty instead of six thirty in the morning,
Like we're doing now.
Great.
Thanks,
Jack.
So what happened was that my mind was going,
Oh,
Then you can cancel and it's OK.
Nobody's going to notice.
But the part of me that's the growth mind and the one that knows that repetition is the mother of skill and the one that wants to become really good at these live events said no.
You need to go through with it.
You need to on the way home,
Find a place with your car,
Turn off the engine,
Set up the gear,
Try to do it on the cell phone.
And it went wrong.
So I started with no video and there was sound.
But then I got the laptop going and I clicked end and gone it was.
But I continued recording on this microphone.
So I'm going to upload it as a meditation file,
As a learning file on inside.
So thank you also,
Jack.
And honesty and the humanity for me is so key.
I my path has been being so far away from who I really was that I completely broke down.
This is like 17 years ago.
And that was my entry to all this stuff with meditation and learning about psychotherapy,
Training to become a psychotherapist,
Working with myself and people.
So I'm here to give and to receive.
So these repetitions are very important in order to learn anything.
Right.
So what I'm going to be doing is that I'm going to be repeating a lot of stuff that we talked about the other days.
And every time continue putting some new things into the into these talks.
Right.
So and I talk a bit,
Meditate,
Talk,
Meditate.
When we have 30 minutes,
It's going to be two sets.
So let's just start out now by getting comfortable and getting ready to meditate a bit.
And then from there,
We'll talk a bit and meditate and talk.
All right.
I'm going to be looking into the camera.
That's one of the things that I want to repeat in order to become better at just focusing on the camera while meditating with open eyes.
But feel free to just close your eyes.
No problem laying down,
Sitting or sitting on a chair as long as you're comfortable.
So just start,
You know,
Taking a couple of deep breaths.
If there's something that needs to be stretched or roll your shoulders or anything like that,
Just go ahead and do that now and really make sure that you feel comfortable.
If it does seem natural,
Just make a small smile with your lips,
Just a really tiny,
Small smile.
Just enough so you can feel it inside of you and in your eyes.
You can notice the sounds.
It might be the sound of your heart beating.
It might be sounds from family or anything else like that.
Just noticing your belly and your chest rise and fall.
All is good.
All is okay.
Don't be fighting,
Not thinking or not feeling.
Just experience it arise,
Just like you're in breath and fall away again,
Just like your out breath.
So what you can do now is to visualize that dream that you have,
Something that you've dreamt of achieving,
Manifesting in your life,
Something that might makes that smile even bigger.
It can be emotional,
It can be material,
It can be whatever.
Just visualize that.
Just notice how it feels in your body.
And now what you do is that you put something in between that dream and you.
So something is in the way of you achieving that dream,
Manifesting that dream and just take notice of what that is.
It can be emotions,
It can be people,
It can be money,
It can be whatever.
But just be true to whatever arises in your mind,
In your inner eye.
So what's standing in the way of you doing what you dream of doing?
Just continue the calm breath,
In breath,
Out breath,
Small smile.
Okay,
Now just let go of the visualization of the dream and what's standing in the way of the dream,
But just take a mental note of these things.
We're going to use it now.
So let's just touch and finish this first set of meditation.
You're very welcome to in the comment field just share the dream.
Just one word or a short sentence and what's standing in the way.
So you're very welcome to do that.
And in the meanwhile,
I'll share my dream.
I've really understood this many years ago,
Making these collages with all the things that I wanted to manifest after watching the movie,
The Law of Attraction.
That was like 12 years ago,
Something like that.
So I really did understand that I am the one that can achieve these dreams and everything that's in the way of it was primarily emotions and convictions of myself.
So working with that and working with this repetition,
Repetition,
Repetition in sets of seven days or 30 or 90 days,
Understanding that by having this dream and continue facing what I feared the most,
Which for me was the social,
You know,
Rejection,
The fear of failure,
The shame.
I understood that by becoming friends with that,
Nothing could stand in the way.
So my dream right now is and actually this part,
You're actually a part of my dream right now,
Because what I'm doing now,
I've always dreamt of writing books.
And I have loads of experience as a psychotherapist.
I have 12 years and I love this stuff,
Which you can probably feel.
So my dream is with this process,
Actually,
I'm considering now doing this every day,
But be writing every day also.
So that by November,
I have a book that I can publish.
Why?
Because I'm here to do the same that other people have helped me with is to get inspired and to heal and understand and create a development that can affect my kids and their kids and seven generations forward.
That's what I'm here to do.
So let me just see if there's no comments here.
There's no dreams out there or and it's quite fine not writing.
It's a bit personal,
But you're very welcome to do it.
So let me just see if there's if you guys have any questions or anything like that.
Just go ahead.
And also happiness.
Great Dana.
So what's standing in the way of that happiness?
What's standing in the way grief?
Yeah.
So these two things and core emotions that go very much hand in hand.
So there's a process of grief and then there's the wish,
The dream of happiness.
So it's not that we're going to go into individual session right here,
But what is possible to do is to see what is it?
What's the repetition that will be great for us to do?
It could be the repetition of speaking to a dear friend,
The repetition of crying.
It could be the repetition of talking to this person.
If it's a person that you've lost or somebody who it could mean anything.
Grief could be many things,
Many things or caused by many things.
So so what we can do is to find out what is it that we can do each day in order to heal these wounds?
Last time there was some feedback in regards to the papers that I wrote.
It was a bit too unclear to see.
Is this clear?
Can you see this?
So you just let me know in the comment field if this is all right.
Right.
The last one was just with the fine paper.
So the thing is that that let me just show you this one as well.
I love these simple models.
So you can either be below the line.
Or you can be above the line.
Below the line is the one that I just showed you.
I'll go back to that in a little bit where you are in contraction.
OK,
So below the line we contract.
Everything becomes about drama.
Everything's become becomes about being right or blaming or feeling fear.
We are either in a victim role and it's not that we are victims.
It is that we feel like victims.
So,
For example,
With grief or fear,
We we have been.
We've experienced something that has been really tough for us and that's difficult for us to come.
You know,
It's to continue.
And we can actually have this in a villain where we become very critical of ourselves and we're not really that supportive.
We talk down to ourselves and we hero ourselves by eating mindlessly or surfing the web or watching Netflix or.
Helping everybody else and being very cheerful and smiley and then going back home and feeling really miserable.
So so below the line is it's not that it's wrong or bad to be below the line,
But we are in contraction and we're caught up with the past.
We are re acting the past.
So what we can do and what repetition is about is about moving above the line.
Into expansion.
And I make this sound easy,
But it's not.
And you know that it takes lots of work.
So the victim,
We can transcend that into becoming creator.
So that that's where the repetition comes in,
Right?
This is where we can start looking at.
OK,
I've lost or I've gone bankrupt or I've failed.
What can I do to start changing this?
These life conditions?
What can I do to start feeling more happiness or joy or feeling more safe so we can challenge?
The villain becomes the challenger.
So so instead of talking down to ourselves,
We can reach out to a coach,
To a psychotherapist,
To a good friend.
Friends are usually the best ones if we just dare to open up.
Right.
So the victim into the creator,
The villain into the challenger and the hero into the coach.
So instead of heroing ourselves with with stuff that will reduce our stress for a short period of time.
For me,
It's the addiction of sugar and candy and that vicious cycle of feeling lonely and going up to the hero and hearing myself with stuff and things and eating stuff.
And it tastes good.
That's what's so difficult.
Then going over to the villain and being hard on myself.
Why did I do that?
And then feeling bad going into the victim again.
You might know that cycle if you don't know it with food,
You probably know it with cigarettes or overworking or overthinking or stuff like that.
So what I'm getting at is that by using the line,
Which is very simple,
The line,
Either you contract or you expand meditation.
We can use to be aware of contraction or expansion.
Again,
It's not wrong to be below the line.
Most of us are most of the time because how many hours have we spent repeating stuff that's actually maturing us emotionally and bringing us where we want to go?
All right.
I hope it makes sense.
Let me know if it does.
If it doesn't.
Let me just see before I go on.
Jack,
You wrote something about you need a better place to live because of disabilities that make it difficult to get enough money.
Yeah.
So that's that's one one thing that great arena.
I'm glad that it makes sense.
And please do let me know if you have any questions.
So so yes,
Money is definitely a factor for all of us.
And we all have different stories,
Different situations in our lives.
Personally,
What we chose to do was to move from Copenhagen down to the south of Denmark,
Where we've decided to live in a house which needs renovation.
Put it like that.
But where our costs are very low and we have to see two minutes from here in the forest,
Five minutes from here.
So this is not to to.
Again,
It's not to.
Impress,
It's just to explain that we can be victimized and we can be in the villain on the hero,
But by waking up and finding out,
OK,
Do I want to continue this or do I want to start something that can be repeated again and again?
So I start moving up into the creator,
The challenger and the coach.
All right.
Great,
You guys.
Yeah,
Yeah.
The same goes for for most countries,
Denmark,
Where I'm situated is also very expensive.
So I would challenge you,
Jack,
To look into those that mindset and then see if if you are tapping into a growth mindset or a blocking mindset,
A fixed mindset.
And you don't need to be rough on yourself or anything like that.
Just be aware of whether you're going with the growth mindset or the fixed mindset.
So this is important because it's our mind creating the barriers,
Right?
All right,
Guys.
So let's go into the next set,
Meditation.
So so this time round,
The same stuff,
The small smile,
The calm breathing,
Relaxed eyes,
Relaxed eyelids,
Shoulders,
All of this.
Look at the same dream again.
I'm going to be guiding all this,
But look at the same dream again and look at what before was a barrier and then look at the repetitions that you can see needing in order to push this barrier gently away.
The barriers there for a reason.
Usually it has something to do with protecting ourselves or making sure that we we don't fail and we don't look ridiculous in other people's eyes,
But it's all an inner construction.
And even though we did stuff where we looked like unprofessionals or like I did yesterday,
We can practice this growth mindset so we actually understand that as what's this?
That bear that says that today's failures are tomorrow's successes,
Right?
So we can actually see it without failing.
So embracing the failure.
So I'll start guiding now.
Again,
I'll practice the looking at the camera in my meditation.
You guys can go ahead and close your eyes and get comfortable.
So just connecting with your in breath.
Connecting with your out breath.
Small smile.
Relaxed eyes,
Relaxed eyelids.
Relaxed shoulders,
Torso,
Belly.
Noticing the sound of your heart.
If you can hear that noticing other sounds.
Noticing that you are safe.
You're okay.
You're good.
Slowly breathing in,
Slowly breathing out.
Not being,
Not thinking,
Not feeling,
But just being with what is.
And now again,
Stepping into visualizing that dream.
It might be seeing yourself experiencing that happiness or that new place to live or whatever you dream of.
And really feel that visualization,
Really feel it in your body.
Continue your calm breathing,
Small smile.
You're okay.
You're safe.
You're good.
Really take it in,
That dream.
And strongly believe that you can achieve it by repeating all the stuff that you need to repeat in order to get there.
And continuing the slow calm breathing just as before you watch this thing,
These challenges in the way of that dream.
But this time you don't contract when you watch these challenges.
What might be blocking the way.
Instead you see what you need to take responsibility,
Create and how you need to challenge yourself by repeating these things.
And with that repetition,
Slowly see that obstruction,
See those challenges be pushed to either the left or the right side,
But just pushing it aside gently,
Slowly.
The slowly process of repetition,
Pushing away the obstructions,
Pushing away the fear,
The worrying,
Whatever might be in the way.
Nice and easy.
Nice and easy.
And now just see yourself having pushed that away.
And that skill that you've developed with the growth mindset,
With the repetitions as the one that's created the pathway to getting closer to that dream.
Slow breathing,
Small smile,
Relaxed eyelids,
Eyes.
Listen to your heartbeat.
Listen to other sounds.
And knowing that whatever it is that you dream of,
Taking responsibility and starting challenging yourself,
Creating what you need to create,
Getting support from outside from inside,
Can only get you a bit closer to what you dream of.
So now you can just let go of these images,
The dream,
The thoughts,
The feelings,
And just rest in what is right now.
Just rest in this main awareness.
I'm going to close my eyes as well now.
And inside of me,
I will repeat.
I am the main awareness.
And if it feels right for you,
Go ahead and repeat that as well.
Or if some other sentence arises inside of you,
Please do be true to that and repeat that instead.
I am the main awareness.
I am the main awareness.
I am the main awareness.
I am the main awareness.
I am the main awareness.
Just rest in this experience of just being.
Now just slowly get ready to open your eyes and move your attention outwards again.
Stretching the body or whatever you may feel is necessary.
So the main awareness is important for me because I tend to create stories about myself.
It used to be a lot of negative stories.
Now I need to use that main awareness to also remind myself of what is important.
You know,
Really what is important.
And by doing so,
I can cut through all the part of my French bullshit.
I can cut through everything that I'm creating based on fear.
On.
Yeah,
Primarily fear.
Everything that's based on what other people might think based on not being accepted or being criticized.
But I also do know that if I keep on giving into that fear.
I'm just going to get continue being stuck in that below the line drama blaming not wanting to be right fearing victim role hero role villain role.
And I don't want that.
I want to move up above the line into expansion.
I want to move up into creation.
I want to move up into challenging myself,
Which was what I'm doing now and trying to inspire you guys to do.
I want to move into being a coach,
A support,
One that continues believing that I can.
And when I shared this dream that I have that I want to use this process to do to write this book,
You guys are helping me to achieve that.
So so this is giving and receiving.
So training this I am the main awareness is also to get down to more fundamental part of myself.
What could be called soul or the beingness or the true self?
We can call it many things.
But for me,
It's important that it's a place where I cannot add anything.
I cannot take anything away from it.
It doesn't grow older.
It doesn't get younger.
It's been there since I was born and probably conceived.
And I'm open to believing whatever also that it might be able to live for eternity.
I'm not going to create something that blocks that.
I am the main awareness.
I am the main awareness.
Repetition is the master of skill.
And I'm going to repeat this also.
You guys that have been here the other days have heard this before.
Ramdas on Netflix.
A-R-M-D-A-S-S.
The movie,
The documentary is going home.
And Ramdas is what I call my guru with a smile on my lips.
He's deceased,
But he's still very much here in my heart and in my path.
Just as many other resource persons in my inner spiritual experience really watch that documentary.
I've watched it probably the other day was my 60 days.
I've watched this maybe 68 times now.
60,
60 times the other day and 68 now.
So repetition,
Repetition,
Repetition.
I stopped watching the news because that's repetition as well,
But it's contraction below the line.
So I'm listening,
I'm feeling,
I'm watching,
I'm dreaming about the things that I can do to help me,
Help my family and help other people.
So let's repeat the stuff that makes us grow instead of make us contract and not grow.
So guys,
We are about to finish off.
I'm just going to check if you guys have any questions here.
Marie,
You asked,
Can I repeat the instructions?
Can you help me out?
Which instruction that those were.
You can just write in the comment field again.
Thanks.
Exactly.
Going home.
You might have watched that one,
Carrie.
And I am the main awareness is also a part of that movie and it's just stuck with me.
I can feel I get the goosebumps now talking to you guys about this.
So so again,
My main point with all of this is that repetition is the mother of skill.
Repetition is the mother of skill and anything that we want to achieve.
I do know that there are limits to what we can achieve.
I'm not going to run ultra marathon for 30 days and I'm not here to do that.
I'm here to develop spiritually,
Emotionally,
Physically,
Mentally,
And I'm here to make a significant change in the life of other people so that they can do the same in their families.
You guys,
I'm here also to be inspired by you so we can make a change for the seven generations forward.
That's what I'm here for.
So thank you so much.
I'm really glad to be here.
This was my day four.
I'm going to continue the five,
The six,
The seven.
I'm going to add another seven days.
I'll commit to that right now.
And,
You know,
I'm doing this because I strongly believe that by repetition,
By challenging myself,
That's the path.
That's my path.
Might be yours as well.
Thanks a lot.
Thanks,
Carrie.
Thank you,
Serena,
Priscilla,
Marie.
Thank you,
Everybody.
Serena,
Jack,
Donna.
Thank you,
Everybody.
Thanks,
Mark,
Helena,
Marie.
Have a great day.
And if you want to,
You're very welcome to come back tomorrow.
You'll probably hear a lot of the repetition.
So thanks a lot and see you guys tomorrow.
Yeah,
Ram Dass.
A-R-M-D-A-S-S.
Two words.
Ram Dass.
All right.
See you guys tomorrow.
Thank you.
Have a great day.
Bye bye.
See you tomorrow.
See you tomorrow.
Have a wonderful day,
Everybody.
Yes.
Thanks,
Serena.
So that was the end of day four.
I just forgot that I was recording also.
Listen,
Thanks.
Thank you so much.
I have that feeling of I think the word is bliss.
It's like that feeling of just being and knowing that I'm on the right path.
Despite that major failure yesterday,
It's really just walking the talk and understanding that all this stuff that we create in our minds is just constructions.
And most of it is just not helping us.
It's just making things worse.
So by,
As I mentioned,
Cutting through the bullshit with I am the main awareness and that main awareness being the part of us that's here to make a difference.
It's here to love,
Experience love,
Love,
Love,
Love,
Create a change in ourselves,
Our families and the world as much as possible.
So thanks a lot for being here.
Thank you so much.
I'll see you guys tomorrow for day number five.
And I'll just keep on rolling.
That's the way to go.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Bye bye.
