One of the bravest things you can do every day is to spend some time being nobody.
Now,
We know this sounds ridiculous,
Or it may even sound frightening.
But what I'm discovering is that spending time with myself as nobody,
Is opening up space for me to really know who I am.
To really discover what I want.
It's in becoming nobody.
I feel like I'm.
.
.
Actually.
Becoming everything.
My name is Cara Bradley and I bring you.
These simple truths that I'm learning from my own life,
From my own process of shedding and leaning into.
And releasing and.
.
.
Challenging myself.
It's about waking up.
It's about dropping the old,
The past.
Even dropping future plans.
And just knowing who I am more right now.
And so I've been playing with this idea of becoming nobody for the last couple of years,
And I'm finally ready to talk about it.
We carry stories with us.
Stories of past regrets,
Betrayals,
Stories of things we've done or didn't do.
The stories weigh us down,
They hold us back.
And so what I've been doing for one minute,
Five minutes,
Sometimes more every day.
Is to spend some time without the stories.
Without all of the baggage,
Without the weight.
Of who I was or who I want to be.
To really be with myself.
As I am right now.
Without the personality.
Now,
Like I said before,
It can be really scary,
Right?
We spend most of our lives trying to be somebody.
That to be nobody,
Like,
Why would I want to do that?
And what I came to was that.
I was just feeling so stuck and so weighed down.
And so constricted.
By who I was,
Like,
Do you ever feel like you're just sick of yourself?
You just want to drop the costume?
That's what this is about.
It's about dropping the costume of you.
And just allowing yourself to be,
To float.
In space,
In time.
As nobody.
Now you may not understand what I'm talking about,
But you do.
Like I know you do because we all have experienced these moments.
And oftentimes,
It is in the most obvious places,
Not in our house or with our stuff or with all the things that define who we are,
It's actually in nature.
Nature has an enormous way of holding us.
Comforting us and supporting us.
In a way that gives us the courage.
To let go.
To let go of those stories that we hold on to,
Even for a minute,
Five minutes,
An hour.
So I have been doing this for the last few years because I have been feeling very held back.
By who I used to be.
By what I used to do.
By what I believed in.
And I was also feeling held back by.
Future planning,
Constantly goal setting.
Constantly thinking about what I could do next.
All of that I realized wasn't allowing me the space and the time.
To really get to know myself.
To really get underneath the noise.
Long enough to hear.
Those teapots.
Quiet whispers.
That were encouraging me.
That were guiding me.
That are guiding you as well.
We all have this wisdom and this intelligence that streams through us.
And we're often so bogged down.
With the scaffolding of our personality.
That we just can't hear it.
So what I want to encourage you to do today.
Is to spend a minute,
Start with a minute.
And just be nobody.
No name,
No past,
No future.
No needs.
No wants.
Nothing.
No roles or identities.
To just be.
In space in.
Time without fear.
Any baggage.
You may feel like you can't breathe.
I know for me.
It's taken me a while to get comfortable being nobody.
But I'm finding that the more I can let go of.
The more I'm discovering who I really am.
The more courage.
I have to do it more often.
The more confidence I have.
To not carry forward.
My past.
And then not hang on to some future dream.
Just to show up and experience life as it is right now,
As I am right now.
In all its glory and all its messiness.
In all its extraordinary brilliance.
Becoming nobody has had a lot of advantages.
It's hard to explain to people.
And I'm trying to do my best to hear what I really want to say here with you.
In discovering myself beneath the stories,
The roles,
The identities,
The have tos,
The shoulds,
The want tos,
The didn't dos,
The did dos,
The highs,
The lows,
The all of it.
All of those costumes that I have been wearing for 62 years now.
In letting it go for a minute.
Five minutes a day.
Just sitting.
In the woods.
On the beach.
In a park.
Without anything.
Just being.
Even if.
.
.
It is scaring the hell out of you because it did for me for a long time.
What I'm discovering is a space.
Essence of who I really am,
It feels like.
A coming home.
Feels like.
Freedom.
It feels like,
Holy crap,
I can't believe I haven't done this sooner.
And that's why I want to share it with you.
So try becoming nobody.
Even if you don't understand what I'm talking about yet,
Go discover it for yourself.
I can only share what I've experienced.
And I will tell you,
It's worth it.
You will not regret it.
Releasing,
Letting go,
Dropping,
Shedding it all.
For a few minutes a day.
The world will keep telling you who you should be.
The world will keep telling you what you should do.
Deep down you already know what it is exactly.
You're here for.
Don't let the world try to tell you what to do anymore.
Discover for yourself.
What it is.
Deep down,
That whisper is always.
Not cheating you.
Directing you.
Guiding you.
We just have to get quiet enough to hear it.
It's so in my discovery.
This idea of becoming nobody.
Has changed everything for me.
It's allowed me.
Time to.
The baggage.
Of me.
I get tired of being me.
And by giving myself the permission to be nobody for a few minutes every day.
It's opened up so much.
So much space.
Space to hear myself.
Space to hear my gut speak to me.
So I hope that you'll give it a go.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Or if you have any comments about what you've discovered.
I'm not here to tell you what to do.
I'm here to just share my own direct experience of what it feels like to be awake.
Alive.
Unbeholden.
Unpressured.
More me like ever before,
Honestly.
I just want to share what I've discovered.
Because I believe that we're more alike than we are different.
And if it works for me,
Maybe it'll work for you as well.
Thanks so much for being here.
